Shashi runs a sweet shop, Saatvik Mishtaan Bhandaar, in an interior lower middle class area of Lucknow. A man of modest and honest means, he has believed that 'ties of the heart are stronger than the ties of blood'. He is married to Garima, who is his second wife. Payal is his real daughter from his first marriage, and Khushi was brought in as an orphan by Garima. Nevertheless, he has never treated Khushi any different from Payal. Both his daughters are the apples of his eye.

Check the star plus site...i am just posting here what is written there...

Oh wow! this is news to me.. I dont remember them mentioning anywhere in the initial episodes that Payal isnt Garimas real daughter... they always portrayed her as her daughter, even during Payals first wedding sequence.. i guess i need to rewatch the initial IPK episodes again.. cause i cant seem to recall anything of this kind...

If you watch the initial episodes I think in the second episode Buaji says that Khushi is Garima's Sisters daughter and they have adopted her after her parents death.

Yes Khushi is Garima's sister's daughter. After khushi's mom-dad died in a car accident (supposedly), Garima and Shashi adopted Khushi.
