The show is set in a city named Gwalior which is in Madhya Pradesh. In the very first episode of the show we see Imartidevi disputing Mittai to everyone in the city and she has many people behind her including drummers and her daughter in laws, she then gathers everyone and tells the good news of her son Anuj getting a job in a very big company. She then goes near her house and asks the dhol men to play the drums faster as this is her house and says even Hawa asks her before entering the house, meanwhile vimla is making chutney and her 2 daughters ask their mother if they can go out and dance on drum beats when they get an answer no they get upset and go to their room. While Imartidevi is still outside infront of her house and showing off her middle son Ved is shown bringing Prasad saying he did pooja for Anuj. The dhol men begin to leave and ask money from Imartidevi she takes out a 50 rupees note but the men don't want it as they say it's to less, then enterers Anuj giving a 500 rupee note to his mother to give it to the dhol people. As Anuj enters the house we are then introduced to khussam who does an Arti on Anuj. Anuj then eats Samosa and chutney made by vimla and praises it which makes Imartidevi very angry. Prakash phone rings and by this happiness Anuj calls khussam and gets the phone from his mother and passes it to khussam, khussam then locks herself in the bathroom so she doesn't talk to her husband as she knows how her saas is and after some time on the same day Anuj phones Prakash and makes Khussam talk to him in the kitchen, Anuj in happiness informs his mother. When everyone is out Imartidevi locks the door and questions khussam why she spoke to her husband and injures the same hand that khussam used to hold the phone and before going says I don't like anyone coming between me and my sons. Khussam then crys and prays that how she wishes someone can come and change everything. Ambi is then shown in an atta shop, Ambi catches a lady trying to swap her Atta with another woman's atta Ambi then sorts everything out and tells the good lady to fight for herself as Ambi hates bad people. Ambi parents scold her and Ambi replies she did well by telling the bad lady off,Her father explains to her that when she gets married she cant do this. Ambi replies that if her mother in law is bad and scolds her she will return back to her mother. Shreedar Imartidevi's younger brother in law comes to Imartidevi and congrats her for Anuj work and Imartidevi calls him as Laxman and praises him, Shreedar then talks about how strong and brave she is to bring up her kids on her own despite having her husband on her side and how her husband ran away from all his responsibilities. Imartidevi then counts 13 Almonds and gives them to khussam to make Kheer for Anuj. While washing the almonds khussam drops 3 Almonds in the drain but Sajni tells her not worry and add 3 peeled groundnuts instead and assures that no one will find out. Imartidevi and Anuj sit to eat the, and Anuj praises the kheer a lot and asks Khussam for more , then Imartidevi gets the kheer puts it in her mouth and finds the groundnut Imartidevi punishes both Khussam and Sajni by not giving them any food to eat, Misshrain finds a girl for Anuj who is Ambi asked by Imartidevi and arranges both family to meet one another. We then see Ambi and her family waiting to see Imartidevi and she arrives they get her tea and snacks and then Imartidevi comments on Ambi step mother etc which makes ambi speak and Imartidevi says she doesn't want a daughter in law like Ambi and abmi on the other hand says she doesn't either want a mother in law like her which makes her refuse for the rishta. We then see Ambi getting to know that her niece meaning her step sisters daughter who is dead her daughter who lives with her step mother, that neetu is not attending school for some days this concerns Ambi as Neteu is a very clever student who loves studying she then tries to find out why Nettu is not going school even though her real mother wanted Neetu to study and become a doctor. We then see Imartidevi see Anuj and his girlfriend Mala who is there paros on there mobile and looking at each other and doing Ishare she then gets worried and plans to fix Anuj wedding quickly worth another girl who will take care of the house and who wont overpower her. Mala is with her mother and her mother complains that she will get her red sari back that Imartidevi has stolen from hr form the balcony and Mala suggests her mother to leave it there and her mother gets angry by this she phones Anuj and explains how there mother are biggest rivals and Anuj tells its impossible to gets married but Mala says they should elope and Anuj disagrees. Anuj refuses as he cannot deceive his mother. Mala then says will commit suicide if he doesn't marry her. Anuj tells her to relax and think positively and says he will take the responsibility of convincing their family. Ambi is show worried for Neetu and calls her but Neetu step mother warns her not to tell anyone about her behavior towards Nettu and stand next to her as she speaks to Ambi and Ambi says she to neetu on phone that she thinks Neetu is not happy and good and says that she will count up to 10 and if she remains silent whilst counting up to ten that means shs in difficulty and if she speaks she's happy, Ambi count to ten and Neetu remains silent which tells Ambi that Neetu wants her help and she assures Neetu that she will help her out. Anuj invites his friends to lunch and Imartidevi is unimpressed by his friends and doesn't let her bahus serve the food as she says there asar can go to them and all Anuj friend praise Imartidevi and says she is a nice saas who helps there bahu and complains that her saas makes her do all households after she comes from work and she tells them to go back home as its late. In the morning Sajni gets water for Imartidevi and gets shouted by Imartidevi for taking to long to bring water and Sajni says that its not her fault as the water is not coming because Vimla Chachi is using it. Vimla is seen cleaning her viranda with the water and Imartidevi shouts to her that she also needs water and vimla ignores her which make Imartidevi furious, while all this going on Sajni is shown looking and listening to the talks and enjoying it after sometime vimla has enough and closes her tap and Imartidevi tap splashes with water. And the bahu start washing the clothes. Imartidevi then phone misshrain and tells her to keep searching a girl for Anuj. Anuj is getting late for work and with water problem vimla suggest him to take bath in her bathroom which makes Imartidevi very angry. Neetu is in the market with her step mother to buy vegetables and Ambi and her mother follow both and see Neetu being treated very badly by her step mother and see Neetu picking all the heavy bags .Kamini then remembers that Neetu has forgotten a bag and tells her to go and get it While Neetu goes to bring the forgotten bag ambi holds her n takes her in a corner and Neetu cries and says her step mum is very bad and hits her and doesn't let her go to school etc. Ambi asks if her father supports her n neetu replies that he does what his wife tells him to do and Ambi promises Neetu that she will sort everything out and sends her back to Kamini. Mala then phones Anuj and tells that she wants to meet him at night on the chaath n is shocked to see Imartidevi there, Mala is dressed in modern short clothes, she then goes to Anuj and says she is very upset that he hid that he loves Mala, Anuj explains that he was afraid that she wouldn't agree for there rishta so he thought he would tell at the right time. Imartidevi tells Anuj that she will not accept Mala as her bahu and will not let them get married but Anuj says that Mala is a nice grl, and tells him to choose her or Mala. Anuj decides to leave the house and is very sad to hear this. Ambi is shown in Kaminis house making her lassi to drink which Ambi has mixed neend goliyaan in it that makes Kamini sleep for some hours. Ambi then takes Neetu out and tells her a plan to escape from Kamini, both agree and hug. Imartidevi is worried as Anuj has not returned home since hours and is sad, on the other hand Anuj is in the park with Mala and Mala curses herself saying it's her fault but Anuj says not to blame herself, Imartidevi then remembers a time when her husband left her and her 3 sons on and a letter saying he is gone forever and won't return. She is then remembering people taunting and laughing at her. Anuj finally agree to a girl of her mother's choice which makes his mother jump in happiness. Imarti then catches Sajni eating something from her locked cupboard and shouts at her and gets her keys from her and locks the cupard. Neetu and Ambi are working accordingly to their plan and are succeeding in scaring Kamini, and with fear Kamini suggest that they should go the mandir. Imartidevi phones misshrain again saying she needs a bahu suitable for Anuj and missrain says that Sajni is pretty and attractive she will get your son in her hands and Imartidevi says its impossible as he's always busy in pooja. And tells her to quickly find a girl and after her phone conversation she shouts at khussam again. Mala and Anuj meet and she says everyone on the streets are saying u wont marry me n Anuj reply's that its true he will marry a girl of his mothers choice. Misshrain calls Imartidevi and says she has found a girls for Anuj who will meet her at the mandir. On the other hand Ambi, Neetu and Kamini head to the same Mandir. As kamii is unaware of Neetu going to the mandir is shocked to see her there and asks Ambi who is next to her if she saw Neetu and Ambi says she hasn't so Kamini tries to search for Neetu but cant, while Imartidevi enters the Mandir and sees that the girl and family is not hear yet and Misshrain tells her to do small pooja till they come but Imartidevi says that shes the grooms mother and she won't wait for them, and does pooja. Unnoticing Ambi takes Neetu away without Kamini finding out, as ambi and Neetu run away Neetus foot gets hurt and she sees Kamini heading to the same direction and Ambi is clueless and sees a lady with a shawl and asks for her shawl saying the girl is ill and Imartidevi gives it and ambi wraps neetu in it and Imartidevi thinks that she has seen Ambi somewhere. And remembers where she seen her and she rings Mishrain telling her she has selected a girl for Anuj. Mishrain is shocked but Imartidevi says she's going to be her bahu that why she keeps meeting her. Imartidevi is shocked to hear that Anuj does not want to marry any girl he says he did agree to leave Mala but didn't agreed o marry anyone this upsets his mother, with all emotional talks Anuj Agrees to marry. Imartidevi by dhoka takes Anuj to Ambi Atta shop and thinks his mother took him to buy atta and Ambi parents are pleased with Anuj n serve them tea and snacks and Anuj is shocked to have this and tell his mother who makes an excuse up. They get up to go when Ambi slips and Anuj catches her and saves her they then go and Imartidevi is impressed with Ambi and does the rishta pakka without anuj knowing. After some time she sees her son upset and agrees to marry him with Mala and plans to fight them as well as make her son think his mother is good, she creates many misunderstanding between Mala and Anuj which makes Anuj break up with her and his mum starts his marriage preparations with Ambi and is very happy. Ambi's parent gifts anuj things and Neetu hides a photo of Ambi in one of the gifts and before it goes to Anuj Imartidevi hides the photo as she doesn't want Anuj to call of the wedding and him to recognize ambi. On the wedding day Ambi is getting ready and someone has lost there gold necklace and Ambi plans to get it by saying loudly that the lady has found her lost necklace so the lady who stole it hearing this goes to the place she hid the haar n says its here hen how come they found it and Ambi is behind her n takes the haar back n scolds her a lot, Vimla is hearing all this and is thinking that she will deff be a challenge to Imartidevi and says it will be fun know and goes in and meets her saying she is Anuj chachi, all rasam are taking place and Anuj friends are picking him up so that he does bend down in front of Ambi to put Mala on her , n they have fun while Mala mum enters and screams and says Mala has ran somewhere and its all Anuj and Ambi fault. They get married and she is welcome in the Imarti nivas and all the rasams are taking palce and after rasam are done they all show Ambi the house and they hear someone in the kitchen so all run to see and catch the chor Ambi gets a big stick and goes in a room and sees a shadow and thinks it's the robber as its dark and she can't see, she quickly clashes the stick with Imartidevi stick which she also thought Ambi is the chor and at that positron the light comes on and all are shocked n vimla hints at Imartidevi that Ambi will defeat her with all anger Imartidevi very smartly chucks the stick on the floor making it seem as it was an accident and acts all innocent saying she didn't know etc, then they take Ambi in her room and Imartidevi enters with balm for Ambi hut foot and she messages hardly making Ambi foot hurt more, Anuj then goes in search of Mala and finds her n takes her home. Meanwhile Ambi waits for Anuj and in the morning Imartidevi tells Ambi that Anuj went to meet his primica which makes Ambi sad and hurt. She tries to talk to Anuj who ignores her and is not impressed in her. One day Anuj has left his lunch box at home and Ambi gets money from her saas and goes on riksha to Anuj office to give his lunch as she reaches there they tell her to wait as Anuj will come in a few mins, Anuj however is very rude to her and tells her not to come here again Ambi is broken and on the way back home there is a bomb blast and Anuj gets to know that Ambi just went know and he runs from work to see if she ok, with difficulty he reaches to Ambi and sees that she is ok takes her home. Ambi then goes by her saas room and sees her keys on her wardrobe door and decides to give it her and puts it on her sari, Imartidevi is shocked and vimla again taunts her saying her bahu will take her place. Ambi also opens the cupboard that contains kajoo, peanuts etc and Sajni is shocked to see this and Ambi tells her to eat it and is busy eating it when Imartidevi catches her n she makes her eat so many which makes Sajni ill. Imartidevi very cleverly sends Ambi out of the house saying Anuj doesn't love you and she stats to go when khussam runs behind her but misses her and Imartidevi catches khussam and takes her home and tells sajni to bring burning hot coal that she will use to close Khussams mouth forever and is about to put it in her mouth when Ambi screams Imartidevi is shocked but says good you found out my true colors n I was bored in acting in front of you however Ambi challenges Imartidevi that she will not let this happen and she will change everything hearing this Imartidevi is shocked and Ambi adds cold water to the burning Koal, khussam and sajni are very happy to see Ambi back. After this Ambi plans to get Prakash and Khussam together and calls Prakash and fakes that Imartidevi is very ill and needs him here hearing this Prakash is very worried and runs from Dubai to India without taking time, Ambi dresses Khussam up and All are shocked to see Prakash especially Imartidevi and Prakash is very hurt and decides to go back and Ambi says she called him as she wanted to meet and see him but he plan to go back and severally Ambi succeeds in failing his plans and finally she hides his passport and he's ham less hours to reach the airport so all family try to find it when Imartidevi says Ambi has hid it and tells her she is ready to give her anything she want for the passport but Ambi doesn't give it to her which makes Prakash cancel his flight then Imartidevi gives sajni ticket to see movie wit her husband as she gets exited but Imartidevi says in return she want Sajni to spy on Khussam and Ambi. On knowing the truth that ambi has hidden the passport Anuj also supports his wife to get Prakash and Khussam close. Ambi forces khussam to phone Prakash daftar and be Imartidevi she succeeds and calls the job off and Anuj brings Mittai home and gives it his mother and say Prakash has found a good job in India and he will live with us on hearing this Imartidevi glares and Ambi and she smiles at her. Imartidevi then plans to take prakash away from Khussam by phoning Prakash and pretending to be Khussam mother n she humiliates Prakash and Prakash takes all his anger out on khussam and says he will return back to Dubai Imartidevi is overjoyed that she won Ambi. The next day they show Khussams parents come to Imarti nivas and they say they got a good job for Prakash and they say that he is a very good hard working man and say he has misunderstood earlier, making Imartidevi furious in anger. The next day is Prakah and Khussam marriage anniversary and khussam is shown dressed differently then she is dressed, khussam has loosen hair with a beautiful red sari and her eyes have heavy kajal which makes her look stunning, Ambi tells that Prash bhai will be happy seeing you, and Ambi very smartly takes Imartidevi out to watch a movie and Sajni to the circus with her husband, anuj and Ambi decorate the 3rd floor very nicely and romantically with roses, lights and candles.
