Of Expectations, Disappointments, and Regrets

Unmet expectations lead to disappointment and regrets of what could have been.

Disclaimer: It is not my intention to spread negativity or bash any actor; this is my observation and analysis of the story so far.

Finally the secret of Rajni's past is out! It was much as expected from the recent news and predictions on the forum, that is, surrogacy by mistake. The CVs did salvage the story to some extent after driving us nuts for two weeks or so, though there are still a lot of loopholes and inconsistencies, some of which are probably due to the deviation from the original plot.

When I first saw the promos, I was interested. The only other show I was following avidly was BV on Colors with an interest in NBT which was off and on. I did not know Gaurav was going to be the male lead in BHBK at that time, but that revelation decided it for me; I gave up BV at 8 pm to watch BHBK and watched BV on a repeat telecast. 😳

The promos were refreshing and the Phir Kyun led to a lot of fun and humor on the forum. The story when it started was good, but TRPs played their part in making the CVs change the plot too soon. That is my first regret ' that the plot was changed. From what was shown, I had expected incompatibility in marriage was going to be the reason for BHBK, Poulomi would definitely have a part in the story that followed, and it would be a different kind of concept. I have no confirmation that this was going to be the storyline, but I hoped for it and why show the Poulomi at the beginning if she wasn't going to be used later? There were no negative characters, the CVs assured us, and so this storyline seemed to fit best! 😊

Instead, we got a completely different storyline for which certain characters underwent drastic changes overnight. Rajni, who looked like she could not say boo to a goose, overnight changed into a nosey parker female who butted her head into everyone else's business. She hardly behaved like a new bride, that too a bride who has entered a totally different kind of setup from her maika. She took decisions on her own, challenged the family when the factory strike happened, and got on everyone's nerves. It was very disappointing and I nearly gave up on the show.

Then the Aryan story started and we came to the actual Phir Kyun! The surrogacy track was a little difficult to believe because for one thing, Rajni hardly looked like the mother of a 6-year-old (Aryan looks that to me) and second, how could such a self-righteous person like Rajni not tell about this to Krish before marriage? These questions still remain, though CVs have tried to show that Rajni was under the impression her mother had told all, but still, how come it never came up between Rajni and Krish even once after marriage? They had these sessions when they would tell each other some truth about themselves...how come this was never a topic? Also, why did Rajni lie so much...she could have told who Aryan was the first time if she thought her in-laws knew about her past. 😡

There are a lot of medical bloopers around the surrogacy track. They have shown it was an illegal scam in the hospital, but don't the parents meet the surrogate mother before it is done? Will they accept any woman as a surrogate mother? Also, if done without consent, the woman could always abort the baby, so what surety it would work? Would all those poor girls accept their fate in return for money? It is a tad unbelievable, but maybe this was the best scenario under the circumstances! 🤔

All in all, the expectations set by the initial promos were not met. Those promos don't make any sense in the current scenario...and my biggest regret remains that the CVs changed the story line so much! 😭

Rajni's characterization is disappointing. She is the female lead, yet the most inconsistent character in the show. I hope that future episodes redeem her character; the CVs succeeded to some extent with her confession but there is a long way to go. Also, I feel the acting is rather bland; perhaps because this was not the role she auditioned for, but I find something lacking in her portrayal. 😔

Krish's character also disappointed at the time he was being so patient with Rajni; it was just not natural. The hyped up factory workers story was to show why Krish was being patient later, but it did not convince me, and I was really glad when he finally lost his temper! 😃 😆

Now that the secret is finally out, I hope that the CVs will show the aftermath convincingly. I hope we see some introspection on Krish's behalf before he accepts Rajni with her past. It would be so disappointing if they show tomorrow the entire Vaishnav parivaar falling on Rajni's neck and making her mahaan. After all, she and her parents are guilty of hiding the truth, and some anguish on Krish's part would be expected. 😒

This brings me to the point that the actual reason for BHBK is still not revealed. I assume that Rajni and her concern for Aryan will make the Vaishnavs decide to marry her off to Yash. Rajni has behaved irrationally so far and may continue to do so if she is forgiven and accepted and be more Aryan's mom than Krish's wife or Vaishnav bahu and that I assume could be the reason for BHBK. At the same time, could it be so simple? I wonder what twists the CVs have for us in the future. 😕

If the above speculation is true, there is still a chance for a happy ending. It is possible that Rajni might get a jolt when she realizes what her in-laws have in mind for her'..it just might shock her into her right senses and she could turn over a new leaf, but while I would prefer this kind of ending, I am not sure that TV shows work this way! Yash and Aryan could go away and leave Rajjo to pick up the pieces and build up her relationship again with Krish! 😉

Last but not the least, I enjoy the YashRaj scenes, Namita and her pranks, and to a certain extent Veena with her in your face speeches and Baa with her chocolates! These keep me sane while the melodrama makes me want to tear my hair out! 😃

Please discuss and dissect and post your thoughts. 😛

I totally agree with you and I know all of our apprehensions and excitement about 'fir kyun' drama has been pacified with a bad reasoning of this surrogate mother track.

Even if CVs try to redeem Rajni's character to show her a super-sanskari bahu, I won't be able to connect with her now. The way she has lied to her family and most importantly to her husband, its like playing badly with their trust and their emotions by covering herself with that innocent look and righteousness. I don't find her morally right, when she has repeatedly lied to her family who believed her so much. I'd say that her in laws are really gems, for giving her so much respect and love. But as its said, you don't care for things you easily achieve. She knew sub-consciously that her family is gonna believe her whatever she does and that gave her motivation for chup-chup ke Aryan ko milna.

Also, I'm super super irritated with that hair or wig, whatever, please please CVs change her look, that expression-less face and a blank look when an answer is expected or asked from her. Arghh😡

Personally, I think the show lost all its fun, the day they sent away Rangala and Paulomi 😭😭😭As to your post, I understand your perspective, and its quite sad how monetary value (aka TRPs) dictates how one protrays their artistic skills on screen. Sad for the actors, directors, creatives, and most importantly us (the audience).

well said shobha, the expectation that the promos gave was more than what we have seen so far, i wish TRPs would stop affecting the content of shows, it interferes with the story telling and is not fair to the fans and actors who work so hard for a show

i hope they can still bring in poulomi, even though her disappearance has been completely unexplained till now

the vaishnav's cannot give rajni the same status of mahaanta as before... and yes would love to see how krish deals with this

most importantly i still dont see how this will lead to the remarriage

lots of questions but seeing this PHs other shows i hope they can effectively use the potential of the actors they have and tell us a good story

👏👏👏 Thank you for putiing out your thoughts so well Shobs! I must say I have never before felt in sync with someone else's thoughts like I felt when I was reading this post...
I agree with every point you've mentioned.. right from the change in the original track they'd planned. Poulomi's disappearence from the show was so abrupt and so confusing!! They're supposed to be "best friends", (remember the we-did-it jig? ) and partners in business, but what happened? She withdrew from the engagement and also from her job? He never even thought of her once? It was handled so badly, I feel sad for Benaf... she was so good as Poulomi.
I agree with Rajni the meek turning into Rajni the sleek.. I mean, she definitely kept her avenger-of-the-downtrodden roop hidden very well before the marriage! And all that self righteousness when she herself was not so right in keeping the secret!! Oh, they made it up in the last moment about her thinking her mom had disclosed everything in the beginning... Who can believe it never came up not once afterwards, after their wedding? Newsflash - Having a baby before marriage is a HUUUGE deal! No one "not talks" about it, even if they agree for the marriage!!!
And oh, her expressions!! I do not want to bash anyone here but Shrenu comes out very lacking in acting skills, IMO. (Its strictly IMO, and I'm sure she's a wonderful human being and all, but her acting skills - like you put it Shobs - are very bland.) I dont care if no one agrees, but I think KRIJNI have ZERO chemistry. Maybe its Rajni's character that is so bland which fails to evoke any kind of chemistry or her lackluster performance.. Cant blame Shrenu fully, though. She cant help it much if her character is portrayed in such a way, can she?
I agree that the much hyped "Phir Kyun" was such a disappointment... the surrogate story is totally unbelievable - No one can inject a baby zygote to any woman just like that! It requires planning and blood match and so many tests! Like I told you at Ratlam, the Indian Medical Association should immidiately get off Aamir Khan's back and get on JD's back for such a blunder committed!!
I dont know how they can turn this into the remarriage track. I dont know if they will make Rajni - and us too - choose Yash ya Krish. But I know one thing. In making Byah hamaari bahu ka, they've made Dahi hamaari Dimaag ka, I'm certain of it.
I dont know how they can redeem themselves after this disappointment.. hopefully the people who are disappointed are few in number, because this show has some good actors, Gaurav, Yashoda, Namita, Veena and Vrajlal whose potential is not fully utilized and I really, really hope for their sake that the upcoming tracks will focus on that.
Truly, it has reached such a low, that it can only go upwards from here.

Tanu...Dahi Hamari Dimaag ka? 🤣 You have a way with your words...my dimaag is actually curdled milk, not usable like dahi! 😆

I miss Poulomi too and her "Palat Krish"...I wish she would do a palat now and come back into the show! 😔

As to KriJni chemistry, I agree...in the initial scenes when they first met, I thought there was potential, but no, it fizzled out totally afterwards with the change in Rajni's character portrayal.

Let u hope for better things ahead!

Dahi Hamare Dimag Ka it is 😲
Sigh !

Thanks for the brilliant post Shobs...
lets start with the promos...
Bahurani to 'gaay' hai ?...unfortunately we never got to see that gaayness ever ...
Promoting the 'phir kyun' to such an extent that the viewers built high expectations around it which they clearly couldnt handle and came up with a lame surrogacy track - full of medical and ethical loopholes and bloopers :(

They had a good start with Krish being clear that he's never experienced love and the Paulomi-Krish story did appeal though it was a bit OTT in bits but thats okay, we can't always have everything...
There was so much potential with Paulomi's track and her divorcee mum and I was so positive it will pull viewers if given time for the track to grow...but sadly the track came to such an abrupt end that the low TRPs from then on didnt surprise me much...they said it would be a feel good, positive show but gave in to the evils too soon...

I agree and sympathise with the CVs who know that the TRP audiences like drama and hence they had to bring in Rajni sooner than they had planned...but they could have still saved the track from going haphazard by keeping Paulomi, not necessarily as the third angle but they could have her on standby and bring her in when it came to business matters...

Rajni's character has been the biggest let down so far...Shrenu is learning I understand but when the entire show depends on her character, we expect the actor to be convincing enough to carry the show ahead...Honestly, and I have nothing against the girl, she does not match Gaurav's experience...they said it was a love story and we know Gaurav excels at romance but he cannot just bring out that chemistry on his own...

My other gripe is the CVs not making the most of the talent they have ... they have such a talented and hardworking cast but they havent utilised their skills and instead given importance to their weakest link...They could incorporate some good family scenes and bring the positivity back ...

I havent lost all hope yet...There still is potential to save whatever little interest the global viewers have and though this track has revealed the reason to the re-byah , I wish and hope they make it believable and put in atleast a tiny bit of logic for us to keep our interest going...

I just cannot have Rajni being crowned 'mahaan' yet again...

Awesome post!! Thanxx..cant tell anything more.. exactly the same feelings I have! but still I have only expectation from the show, cant help it. I think Shrenu having problem in emoting these hard scenes only.. At first as a normal girl she was very good to watch. hope everything s going to be fine finally!

Well Said!! They played the "maa ki mamta" card here...that instinct won over and her behavior as such...i bet Krish will give the biggest sacrifice for sake of his true love they will annul the marriage as it is not consummated and probably Yash to marry Rajini for the sake of child. And this would be the test of Rajini's love...the child or the husband...kind of peeved about today's truth because the romance track made me watch the show now i feel like the entire night i spent to catch up on the show has gone to waste...(i watch it on the net)😭.
