In india contract marraige is not valid, i think its void abinitio. But frankly as per hindu marraige law also they can be called married if they have registered thei marraige. So its a live in if they havnt registered

i guess he got all sentimental and spoke from the heart.

Though he initially did not consider this as a marriage, but a contract. The tables turned in the past 5+ months and he now takes it as a marriage and nothing else, and the only thing that ends a marriage is divorce.😊

so he mentioned divorce cause he is in that frame of mind where he is sees it as an end of a marriage rather than a contract. That is why he asks her whether she would just let their marriage end just like that.

such contracts are work of fiction and can never be enforced by law, so only way to end marraige is divorce

All the above replies are correct, in my opinion.

This started as a contract, i.e. Arnav proposed and Khushi accepted and they set a deadline - 6 months, the forfeiture of which from Khushi's side would be cessation of her sister's wedding to his brother.

In the Indian court of law, had Khushi approached and told them that she was forced into this - then the court would have declared this marriage contract void.

But on the social side of it, Payal's life would still have been ruined - her in-laws dragged to the court by her own sister...

Khushi knows this marriage can be set aside by court any time - she threatens Arnav once, remember, "What will you do? Will you go to the police?"

But Arnav again uses his ultimate weapon - HER family, HER sister - to rule over her, not legal rights since he knows this will turn against him legally.

So, Khushi accepts.

So they are married. Khushi is Arnav's wife!

There are four main aspects in this marriage:

The one valid before God -
Khushi is married to Arnav. She can never break this one, according to Hindu culture. She is forever HIS, and she knows it.

The one valid before society -
Khushi is married to Arnav. Society knows them to be husband and wife. Breaking away from him, she'll have to answer many people on why she's left him. They may lead separate lives being married or obtain a divorce. Two choices.

The one valid before law -
Khushi is married to Arnav. Arnav has registered their marriage as he says "You have the right. You're my legally wedded wife." To get out of this marriage, they need a divorce. Compulsory.

The one valid through contract -
Khushi is married to Arnav for six months after which she is free to go. No longer married at the end of the period. To satisfy law and society, they might need a divorce or annulment on the grounds that Arnav hasn't consummated their marriage. 😉

I like how complicated this is!

To add fuel to the fire, Khushi is married to Arnav in his mind and her mind as well. They might deny it all they want, but Khushi doesn't hate Arnav, nor does Arnav hate Khushi.

They are married in their minds
- Consensus ad idem is something that is more valid than any of the above (except may be the one before God)
, in my opinion, when it comes to marriage. Because all other marriages have an end, but this one, whether married or not, is valid. How many lovers have we seen living and dying for one person they love and consider themselves married to, with/without marriage? Heard this - "Mere man mein tum hi mere pati/patni ho!"?

Arnav and Khushi are just playing the Tom and Jerry game but know that either cannot live without the other!!

So let's wait and enjoy the drama!

they can still get divorce b/c contract ends in 10 days lol

but i could see why divorce when there's only 10 days left .. maybe if they proceed with the divorce, it'll looks better than a contract marriage (b/c contract marriage sounds so dirty for some reason - serving the body needs or something else seem to associated with that thought in mind (sorry if i offended anyone with this statement) it just that when i think of contract (limit) that kind of thoughts pop in my head)))
