I knowww this sorta belongs in the music corner.. but no ones there xD

I've always wondered, and I've LOVE to get responses from people who may be trained singers themselves...

how come many Bollywood playback singers, female, have such high-pitched voices?

It almost sounds like they always sing in falsetto... but I know that's not quite possible. Singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Alka Yagnik, Sadhna Sargam, Shreya Ghoshal...

what do they do... how do they do it lol.

I'm real sorry if I sound ignorant... my voice is pretty low-pitched itself, and I sing to myself a lot LOL, I've always wondered how they get that tone.

I too sing to myself a lot, I sing more than I listen to songs 😆 I always try to improve and match the singer. sometimes I succeed, when I sing or "practice" a particular song many times, over and over. It is more to do with breathe, and "pushing" your voice to that higher level everytime you try singing it... hope that made sense 😆
I have a high-pitched voice and was classically trained for 1-2 years BTW :P
Alka Yagnik's voice can go to such high pitch, OMG...she's the TOUGHEST to match. Lata Mangeshkar's voice is too unique to even try to mimic, so, I just give up and sing in my own way lol.
IDK though, all I can say is they pratise practise practise. They have been singing all their life, everyday.. they say they'd practise for hours everyday...so yes, they can sing on different ranges because of their hardwork.
PS - All of them, are classically trained since they were kids...so, it really is a reason because, it's the foundation to their singing where they learn some techniques and all.

Rach, you forgot about vibrato... the reason why I hate Shreya's voice.

^ thanks =D that's cool...

haha whenever I sing along to Shreya songs, I have to stop midway in disappointment cuz I realize I'm just falshitting the rest of it lol

I can kinda see waht you mean by 'pushing' the voice to that octave... GOSH I wish I did classical training =/

@B_D, yes 😆 like I said, sorry if I sound ignorant lol

^ I've heard you sing! haha I like your voice, its cool how you nail the high notes.. I wish I could do that lol

AAH omg for low-pitched, do you know that song by Kishore Kumar, "Koi hota jisko apna, hum apna keh lete yaaron, paas nahin toh door hi hota, lekin koi mera apna"

try practicing singing that... haha there's loads of going from high to low notes in that song.

Advice from a non-singer though, so at your risk 😆
