Crime & Fame--- Phoolan Devi.

Devi, one of India's best-known women, was adored by thousands of lower-caste Hindus in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, whose interests she represented in the country's parliament. The short and stocky Devi was portrayed in the 1994 film ''Bandit Queen'' as a rape victim from a low-caste community of boatmen whose career of crime began as a quest for revenge against her attackers. Devi rose to notoriety in 1981 when 22 upper-caste men were massacred in the Uttar Pradesh village of Behmai. She denied leading the killers but surrendered to police in the central state of Madhya Pradesh in 1983. When she was released on parole in 1994 other charges against her in Uttar Pradesh were dropped, and she joined the regional Samajwadi Party, which represents low castes.

Devi, a feisty, blunt-spoken public speaker who drew large crowds, became a member of the lower house of parliament in 1996, was defeated in 1998 elections and made a comeback in 1999.

''Her life was a story of rebellion and successful defiance against oppression and exploitation,'' Narayanan said in a statement. ''Having braved the prejudices that an orthodox society heaps on a woman: poor, backward and a social outcast, she rose to become a member of parliament in her own right.''

Devi, 37, was shot by three gunmen in New Delhi in July 2001. She is lived by her husband & children. May her soul rest in Peace.

She has also acted in films like Khamosi starring Salman Khan & Manisha Koirala & directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Hey now don't laugh.I remembered abt this lady after hearing her name so much by Huda in LRL.😆 I used to see a lot of her in news channels when I was really young & thought of sharing something abt her at IF.. I was thinking 4 posting this topic 4 quite some time but didn't coz I too find it silly like all of u. But finally I am posting it. I felt many of u don't know about who is the real Phoolan Devi & heard her name 4 the 1st time in LRL only. So here comes a bit of Glimpse of the original Bandit Queen.😃

One thing I forget to say is that Phoolan Devi had killed several people with her rifle(see the 2nd B/W pic of hers) during her tenure as a Dacoit.😳 😆

Our LRL's Phoolan means Cadet Naina Singh must learn the technique of handling a rifle from the original Bandit Queen afterall she was expert in that. 😆😆😃

U won't believe but when I was searching 4 the real Bandit Queen wid the help of my Google Uncle I felt dat she was not bad but the sometimes d circumstances we face in our life r so harsh dat we just can't help. Although I don't like the Politician Phoolan Devi. Hoe can somebody like her run our country. Lastly I would like to say dat God Bless her soul.😊
