Chapter 44

Shyam had been fuming ever since the morning. He had been trying hard not to get mad but he couldn't help himself. He was trying hard to get the images that had been forming in his head. He refused to believe anything had happened between Arnav and Khushi. He knew he needed to speak to Khushi at any cost. He had a determined look on his face.

He had a conversation with Anjali about his reaction to the injection. He had managed to handle her as normal by saying he had once had a bad reaction to any kind of sleeping medication when he was little. Anjali still wondered why he never said anything but he didn't want to worry her more.

Arnav and Khushi came out of the bathroom, had their breakfast and headed downstairs. Arnav avoided speaking to anyone and headed straight for his car with Khushi not far behind.

Akash went in his own car. Everyone else carried on with their own business.

By the evening HP Arnav had already sent cleaners to RM to clean up everything that had been left on the terrace and beside the poolside. It was lucky that Anjali having found the bag and card had taken it to Nani's room earlier before leaving it in Arnav's room.

Khushi had seen the card later and smiled. She placed the card on the dressing table and then remembered the earrings and necklaces. She turned to look at Arnav.

Khushi: Arnav why do you buy me all these expensive gifts?

Arnav: Because I can.

Khushi: But Arnav I don't feel comfortable in them.

Arnav: Khushi you are my wife. Arnav Singh Raizada's wife. Plus your also a Raizada bahu. Nani, di and mami wear expensive jewellery. Even Akash has brought expensive things for Payal. So don't you think you should be as weel?

Khushi: But Arnav they are really expensive. Why do you waste so much money?

Arnav got angry and looked at Khushi. Khushi saw his eyes flaring up and shut her eyes tight as she was expecting him to go mad. Arnav just looked at her. He saw her eyes shut, her mouth tighten and her hands clutched her chudidaar. His eyes widened at her. He thought she looked cute and lovable and a small smile started playing on his lips. Pretty soon he couldn't help but start to laugh. Khushi opened her eyes at his laughter. She looked at him and saw him more relaxed before she ended up smiling as well. Arnav looked at her still laughing. He stopped after a while and walked up to her.

Arnav: There is not going to be any argument on this. Tha jewellery stays and if I want to buy more I will. No arguments period.

Before Khushi could protest Arnav kissed her and she lost herself in him.

Anjali came and knocked on their door.

Arnav let go of Khushi and went to open the door.

Anjali: Chote I'm sorry about earlier.

Arnav: It's ok Di.

Anjali: Listen can you both come downstairs together please.

Arnav: Be there in a while.

Arnav went into the washroom and got changed. He came out and both of them went downstairs. To their utter surprise there was a round table in the room with another birthday cake for Khushi.

Anjali: We missed out on celebrating Khushiji's birthday yesterday. So we thought why not do this now.

Khushi looked around to find her family also there. Arnav and her went down and greeted the Guptas. After a while they all celebrated Khushi's birthday. Arnav kept very close to her just so Shyam could not end up anywhere near her which was making him mad.

Once the party was over the Gupta's were driven home by Akash and everyone else went to their respective rooms.

Over the next few days Shyam had tried hard to get Khushi on her own but every time he failed. Every time she was on her own someone or another would interrupt them.

The time she had gone the terrace to collect clothes he followed her but Anjali had seen him and called out to him. By the time he could talk to Khushi she had already gone down.

Another time she had been near the temple sorting out the arti thaal when he was about to approach only for nani to call out Khushi's name. She had seen him but as Nani came up Shyam backed off.

Then one day he thought he had his chance.

Khushi had gone into the kitchen to make some coffee as Arnav had just come back from work. Nobody else was there. Shyam had been standing a bit far away watching to see if Khushi was alone. She was and he went into the kitchen.

Shyam: Khushiji.

Khushi froze as she heard Shyam's voice.

Shyam: Khushiji I need to ask what happened between you and Arnav?

Khushi looked at him in fury.

Khushi: That is none of your business. That is between me and my husband.

Shyam: Everything about you concerns me.

Khushi: I don't care what you seem to think. I need to finish making my husband some coffee.

Shyam walked up closer and grabbed her wrist.

Khushi: Let me go.

Shyam: Why do you do this to me? I love you and you just ignore me.

Before Khushi could say anything Payal had walked in to find Shyam holding Khushi again. She walked up towards Shyam and saw what he was up to.

Payal: If you don't let my sister go at this moment I will go to Di and tell her everything.

Shyam was afraid. He let go of Khushi and walked out of the kitchen. Unfortunately for him Arnav had just witness the scene between him, Khushi and Payal. While Payal was consoling Khushi Arnav went after Shyam. He found him in his room pacing. Arnav looked around to make sure no one saw him. He walked into the room, locked the door and swiftly moved towards Shyam. He grabbed him by the collar and shoved him against the cupboard.

Arnav in fury: I told you to stay away from my wife.

Shyam with a smirk: Why? You know she loves me not you?

Arnav looked at him his fury turning into a smirk.

Arnav: Actually I know she loves me. She has told me and proven this.

Shyam's smirk turned into shock. He couldn't believe what he had just heard.

Shyam: I don't believe you.

Arnav: Why? Did you ask her? Even if you did she would never answer. To her that is our business not some outsiders.

Looking at Shyam Arnav knew he was getting to him.

Arnav: Khushi now is my wife in every way. So you better stay away from her. She doesn't love you, she never has.

Shyam was fuming.

Shyam: If she didn't love why is it that I know how she said yes to marrying you. You told her if she didn't marry you, you would not let Akash and Payal get married.

Arnav looked at him shocked wondering how he knew. His hands started to slowly loosen around Shyam's collar. Shyam looked at him with his classic evil smile.

Shyam: So now you tell me Arnav how do I know?

Before Arnav could answer there was a knock on the door.

Arnav looked at Shyam and whispered dangerously.

Arnav: Stay away from Khushi. I am warning you.

With that he let go of Shyam and went to open the door. Anjali saw her brother and was shocked to see him there.

Anjali: Chote you in here.

Arnav: Di I needed to speak to jijaji.

Anjali: Oh yeah. What about?

Shyam: Rani sahiba he was just asking advice on marriage life.

Arnav had to close his eyes just so he wouldn't get mad at Shyam in front of Anjali.

Anjali: Oh. Well. Chote you and need advice on marriage?

Arnav: Di please. I have to go.

With that he left.

Arnav headed back to his room where Khushi had left the coffee on the table after not finding Arnav anywhere. He didn't want to drink. Instead he went outside to his plants to try to calm down. He was wondering how Shyam knew. He started thinking when Khushi would have told him because she had promised him not to tell a single soul. While he was pruning his plants flashes of his whole marriage were coming in his mind. Holi he thought looking shocked. He turned to look at the wicker chair as he remembered everything that happened on holi. Flashes of Khushi being extremely drunk on bhang and whatever she felt was coming out of her mouth. He even remembered how Khushi almost told his secret in front of his whole family. Holi was the only time she could have told Shyam he thought. He realised there was a time during holi when he was looking for her. It had to have been then that was the only time she was away from me oh and when she went looking for her dupatta but he didn't have time then or did he? He turned to look around his poolside. He saw the tree in the corner and had a feeling Shyam could have hidden behind there. No way in the world was he going to accuse Khushi again. Not after the last time. He went back to his pruning feeling a lot calmer.

Khushi was back in the kitchen helping with dinner. Payal and her started setting up the table. Everyone had arrived but there was no sign of Arnav.

Anjali: Khushi please go Chote for dinner.

Khushi left everything on the table and headed for her room.

Shyam was watching Khushi go when he got up.

Anjali: Are where are you going?

Shyam: Woh Rani Sahiba I just forgot to switch my laptop off. Now we don't want to waste electricity and money.

With that he headed up but not to his room. He headed out the balcony overlooking Arnav's room.

Khushi entered her room to find Arnav staring outside from the french windows. One hand on the window and the other in his pocket. Khushi walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. He turned his face to look at her. He put his hand down and picked up Khushi's hand placing it on his chest above his heart. He looked into her eyes.

Arnav: Khushi esa kyu hota hai jab bhi tum mere paas hoti ho to hamari dil ki dhakhan tez hojati hai. Humne samjhe ne ki koshish ki par samjhe nahi paya. Bhoolna chaha par bhoona nahi paya.

Khushi looked at him in shock. He remembers she thought.

Arnav: Bolo na Khushi. Esa kyu hota hai ke mere dil ki dhadhkan meri saaso se bhi tez hojata hai.

Khushi looked at him. She suddenly hugged him hard to herself. Tears of joy flowing from her eyes and a smile on her lips. Arnav hugged her back. Placing his hands on her shoulders he pushed her slightly so she could face to face with him. He wiped away her tears with his fingers.

Arnav: Khushi aren't you going to answer me?

Khushi: Arnav you remembered.

Arnav: Of course I remember. I remember everything about you even if at that time we were slightly intoxicated but I remember you dancing, me dancing, you asking me what I just said, you in my arms, you and me over on the wicker chair and then on the edge of the poolside.

Khushi looked outside at the wicker chair remembering holi fondly.

Arnav: Now are you going to answer?

Khushi: Jab aap hamare paas hote hai to aap ki dil ki dhadkano ke saath saath hamari dil ki dhadkan bhi tez hojati hai. Hamari dhadkane ek hojati hai.

Arnav looked at her as she shied away and brought her into a bear hug. Both smiling remembering holi fondly. Knowing full well the that each of them remembered that earlier admission to one another. As Arnav's eyes roamed around he saw Shyam looking down at them. He saw the look of horror in his face. Arnav could help but smile more before he pulled back a little looking straight into Khushi's loving eyes. Knowing he had no more worries he kissed her passionately as she responded.

Shyam had seen this display of affection and wanted nothing more but to throw up and left.

Arnav didn't know he had gone and Khushi had no idea Shyam had been looking. Both still lost in the passionate kiss.
