Post The Dirty Picture fiasco, where the television premier of the movie was cancelled following orders from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, it's Jannat2 which finds itself in a similar soup now.
Apparently, the movie has been given a U/A certificate for its television telecast a few days ago, and the Censor Board has also issued a letter to the movie's team, asking them to sign an undertaking saying they wouldn't show the movie before 11pm. Producer Mahesh Bhatt is obviously peeved, and he, along with the Films Producers Guild, is now seeking an audience with I&B minister Ambika Soni
Speaking to TOI, Bhatt said, "We are seeking an audience with the minister to get this issue of U/A certification for TV telecasts addressed. We don't understand the system being followed. If you are giving us a U/A certificate and asking us to alter our movie, then why can't we show the movie during normal hours? Any civilised society cannot function at the whims and fancies of one person on a chair. This issue of a movie's television telecast is very critical." He added that the government's unclear stance is leading to growing mistrust between the industry and those in power, and the issue needs to be addressed soon.
When we contacted, CBFC CEO Pankaja Thakur, she just said, "We've already communicated our decision to Vishesh films about the movie's conversion to U/A from A for the purpose of its satelite release."
