Hi,

Ever noticed how when anyone is pregnant it is assumed they will give birth to a son... Karan says mera beta mere sapne me aya.. tara says mujhe mera beta chahiye.. even in these times people feel that a son is important and the thought that they could have a beti rarely crosses their mind! This inspite of the fact that Saloni does more for her parents than Samar... the comment is that she is fulfilling duties of a son, rather than saying that she is just doing her duty as a child. Is having an heir soooo important?? Is that what makes women complete or is it another norm of society that needs to be addressed and changed?

Please comment.

Ladies, ladies, ladies times have changed. It used to be like that but now the heir and the name can still continue, if you notice there are more and more ladies/girls who get married use their own names along with the married family name.
On the other hand, a daughter is always a daughter, a son is a son until he takes a wife.

This is so true. The son then wants his wife to fulfil all his duties towards his family irrespective of whether he does anything for his family or not.

We are talking about the society who still abort the fetus if it is a female child for the fear of paying dowry. women still want to have son and go thru more preganancies in order to get a boy or a male child.

It is a shame that eveyone wants a boy. The fact is that now we have more boys and less girls. Don't know what will happen to our country with such a imbalance.

Modern trend being is that beta is only beta till he is married. Then he becomes in laws beta( wo saural ka ho jata hai). I see that in more and more instances.
So why people do not wake up and accpet beti and wish for one. Even in movies and shows they say chandasa beta chahiye.
I don't know when the society will undergo this change. even our scriptures says stree is a shakti. And when Bhagwan shivji could not handle something went to parvatiji for the help.

This is completely true. For some reason females have always been regarded as a burden to her family. It is unfortunate, but quite true in many cases. I know of some people who live in this modern, western world who are still bound by this unethical orthodox view. It is not the girl who is the burden, it is the damn dowry which is outlawed in most places, but the exchange for a girl is still heavy in others. In regards to the male child, well have we not seen or heard of many cases where they become "joru ke gulaam". And if not so, then who are those old, overworked parents living in birid (old age) ashrams? Where is there beloved betas? Hopefully Saloni has a girl, just like herself.

I am so glad my family is not like that. My dad treats me and my brother equal, actual he treats me better. I get to make all the decisions for my personal life and get to comment on the decisions made for our family as a whole. I hate people that are always are saying that guys are better that girls and stick up for girls, maybe a bit to much. 😆
