Geet sighed as she reached the reception desk.

"Hi... I'm here for the... secretary position."

She made a mental note to hit the gym more often. If climbing two flights of stairs had done this to her, she dreaded to think what would happen if she had to go all the way to the top.

"Name?"

"Geet Handa."

The receptionist, who Geet noticed had impossibly long manicured nails, typed away at the keyboard, then looked up at Geet.

"You're working for Mr Khurana. Top floor, follow the directions."

"Top floor?!" Geet screeched. "You are kidding me, right? You want me to walk up a million flights of stairs, in this skirt, in these heels, to the damn top floor?"

The receptionist raised her eyebrow skeptically.

"Where's the lift?"

"It's out of service."

"Seriously? A mega bucks company like this can't afford to repair their lift? What has the world come to?"

Geet complained to herself as she grabbed the rail with enthusiasm & hoisted herself up the stairs as if she was rock climbing.

"Come on Handa, imagine this is Mount Everest. Conquer it!"

Her conquering quest ended after she had climbed 5 flights. She collapsed on a stair, taking deep breaths.

"At this rate my skirt will fall off with the calories I'm burning," she mumbled.

She had her head leaned against the wall when she heard footsteps coming up the stairs.

Geet closed her eyes, folded her hands shut & lifted her head to the heavens.

"Please Lord, let it be a muscular man who can carry me up the stairs for I fear for my feet if I walk in these heels any longer."

He laughed at the sight before him, & Geet's eyes shot open. She looked back down at the handsome young man in a crisp black suit doubling over, dropping her hands in her lap & standing up.

"You totally heard what I said, didn't you?" she cringed.

Dev nodded. "Yeah, but it was so funny. You just made my Monday morning. I'm Dev Singh Khurana."

Geet's face lit up. "You're the Mr Khurana, right? I'm Geet Handa, your new secretary." She held out her slender hand.

Dev shook her hand. "I think you're talking about my cousin, Maan. He's the Mr Khurana you'll be working for. I'm the head of finances, I don't have a secretary."

"Oh. What's the Mr Khurana like then?"

Dev caught up with Geet as they climbed the remaining stairs together.

"You'll have to see for yourself," he replied.

Geet walked through the double doors of the top floor & her jaw almost dropped. It was like a whole other world.

Sleek, modern, stylish, expensive. Everything about the top floor which was KC's headquarters reflected on the success of the company.

Sasha Bedi, who stood by a small desk, stepped forward to kiss Dev on the cheek. She wore a red strapless dress, which ended halfway above her thighs. She had poker straight hair, red killer heels on & several necklaces accessorised with her dress.

"You must be the new secretary," Sasha purred, looking a dishevelled Geet up & down. "Good luck. Come on Dev, we have a lot of finances to get to."

Sasha picked up one of the files from the desk & sashayed off, linking her arms into Dev's. Geet started looking for the directions which would led her to Mr Khurana's office.

She was walking backwards, looking around the floor when she bumped into something, rather someone, & a whole wad of papers went flying.

Geet came face to face with Manish, who was glaring at her.

"Oh my god! You're like, the owner of the company! You took my interview that day! I am so sorry about the papers." Geet bent down to help retrieve them. "Actually, I'm looking for Mr Khurana's office. Not you," she laughed nervously as Manish grew annoyed. "The other one. Mr Khurana junior."

"Walk down that corridor, second door to your left," he replied, snatching the papers off Geet before walking away, wondering why he had given her the job in the first place.

Geet stopped outside the tinted glass doors. She knocked once.

No reply.

She knocked twice.

Nothing.

Geet knocked again, before giving up & walking inside.

Maan heard the sound of heels & rolled his eyes.

"Sasha, how many times have I told you not to-"

Then he turned around, to see a shocked Geet staring back at him with her eyes as widened as they could be, almost popping out.
