Chapter 5
Maan laid on the floor when he heard his name being called...he opens his eyes to see an elderly lady dressed in all white with matching pearl necklace-his Dadima. She always dressed the best no matter her age...Maan stands up wiping his sweat as he approached her with a smile.
Maan: What are you doing up Dadima?
Dadima; How could I sleep when you are here making so many noises
Maan: Dadima your room is on the second floor while my gym and my room is on the third floor. How could you hear anything?
Dadima; Well I have sensitive ears
Maan (roles his eyes) Okay I will keep it in mind next time. (he begins to leave)
Dadima: Who was that girl I saw leaving the house?
Maan (stops and looks at her) Were you spying on me?
Dadima: No beta (she touches his shoulder to make him look at her) I just saw her leaving when I was going toward the kitchen. Are you guys serious? Should I call her parents for marriage?
Maan (laughs) Dadima you cant be serious. She is just nobody..just one time thing..you know...(he winks) besides you know I am interested in my studies and our business..I don't have time for this love and marriage crap
Dadima (shakes her head with disappointment) Good night beta
Maan: Good night...
He watches her leave with amusement...he goes to his room taking out his laptop and book bag going over his assignments...he comes across his psychology class assignment and his partner remembering the whole class moment with her, her nervousness, her clumsiness, her stammering...he wondered if she was like this always...how did she even manage to get into college if she can't formulate her sentences properly? How will they work on this project together? He closes his book not wanting to give another thought about his partner...he goes to take quick shower before falling asleep on his bed...

Geet woke up by 6am the next day thanks to the lack of asleep she had last night...her heart started beating fast just thinking about her dreams last night. She didn't even want to think about her assignment for she knew that she would start getting nervous and maybe back out of this whole assignment. Geet went downstairs deciding to make breakfast for everyone. Her dad was very punctual and always liked to be on time under any circumstances.. Everyday he would wake up at 7am and at the breakfast table by 8am.
Her mom usually had everything ready for him by the time he comes..Geet always wondered how her mom manages everything. One thing she liked about her dad was that no matter what he would always come home during lunch time to eat.
Although, he may seem like a hard nut to crack she could always see the love he has for her mom. He never misses any chance to eat the food made by her. He worked in the CITI bank as the bank manager...everyone respected him for his values and principals...even Geet was proud of him but only hoped that one day he would be as proud of her as she is of him.
Her dad was already at the table by the time Geet was finished. She nervously took the plate to him not knowing how he will react, whether he would like the food, or whether he would eat the food made from her hands. He looks at her and then at the plate she was carrying. Slowly, she puts it in front of him stepping back waiting for him to start.
"woh I made your favorite aloo ke parathe..."
He was about to get up when Rano stopped him...
"its not nice to leave food unfinished like this..."
Mohindar: then you finish it...(Geet looks at him with tears and little bit of anger)
Geet: What is my fault? Do you really hate me so much that you can't even eat any food made by me?
Mohindar stops for two seconds before walking away without saying anything. Geet cries on her mothers shoulders while she tried her best to console her. Rano sees Meera standing at the doorway, Meera motions her that she will handle it.
"Geet.." (she stops crying as she looks at Meera..she comes and hugs Geet...) "come lets go out...remember no school today so we are going to spend the whole day out"
Geet: but
Meera: But nothing...we have to go shopping..aunty tell her
Rano: Geet beta go with her just return by your dad comes home...
Meera (smiles) Thanks aunty...now lets go Geet...(she drags her out of the house while Geet tried protesting...) come on we are gonna be late
Geet: Meera where are we going?
Meera: To shop...you need new clothes for college
Geet: But what is wrong with the clothes that I have now?
Meera (stops) you seriously can't expect to work with your partner..what is his name again (she pretends not knowing it..) ohh yeah Maan (Geet heart races faster hearing his name) you can't work with him in your old clothes...how do you expect him to like you?
Geet: but...
Meera: But nothing...we are going to the mall and that is it...come lets go

"This will look nice on you..this color suits you best..." Geet just stood there annoyed like a mannequin while Meera holds various different outfits in front of her asking her opinion and before she could say her opinion Meera answers her own question. "hmm maybe this will look nice on you.." She holds up a green and yellow outfit but quickly throws it away..."no that color didn't suit you either..."
Geet: Why did you even bring me here if my opinion doesn't count to you?
Meera: ssshhh let me think..(she holds another outfit...it was white..Meera squeals in joy) OMG this will look nice on you...this color suits you so well..what do you think?
Geet: Does it really matter what I think? (she asks sarcastically)
Meera: Nope it doesn't...okay lets buy this one
Geet: Can we go eat something now? Thanks to you we have been here since all morning. Its 1pm now if I don't get anything in my stomach soon then I will eat you alive.
Meera (roles her eyes) okay lets go..after that we have a lot of other things to do (she gives the clothes to the sales associate to ring up the clothes)
Geet: You are more excited about this whole thing then I am
Meera (grabs the bag after paying..both walk out of the shop making their way to the top floor where all the restaurants are): Aren't you excited? Finally you are getting a chance to be near him and talk to him
Geet: I am trying not to think about it cuz if I do then I will die without even meeting him. Just his thoughts and name makes my heart race then imagine what will happen to me when I actually meet him? (both reach the food counter...) can I have two large veg. burgers, one large fries and coke...Meera what will you have?
Meera; I thought this was for both of us...anyway I will have just small fries and coke...am not hungry as much...(both grab the food as they find a place to sit...) but Geet you have to tell him how you feel...I mean after what yesterday it seems like he has feelings for you too or else why he would cross out donkey's face and give it back to you?
Geet (scoffs as she takes a bite of her burger...Meera waits for her to finish chewing) I don't know maybe it was a joke or maybe he wanted to see my reaction..I don't know...Meera look around...what does everyone around us have in common? (she looks around and sees some old people sitting in a group eating lunch and also some young couples holding hands as they walk) Do you see any of the guys with fat girls? (Geet puts her burger down) Why would Maan Singh Khruana would go out with such a common girl who doesn't even know the ABC's of how to dress or talk?
Meera: But you are not just ANY girl..you are Geet...your innocence and your caring nature will be just enough to swipe him off his feet.
Geet: But sometimes that is not enough. (Geet finishes one burger as she begins unwrapping another one. Meera puts her hand on top of the burger..)
Meera; Then why don't you change yourself? Why don't you loose weight?
Geet: Why? No matter what Meera, no matter how much I love him or want to be with him, I will not change myself for someone to like me. Take my dad for instance he hates my very presence but you don't see me loosing weight to prove him wrong do you? What made you to become friends with me Meera? Was it because of my weight?
Meera (smiles) NO because of who you are, because you were always there for me whenever I needed you, you were there to listen to me, your stupid non stop talking of any random topics one could think of and because you are my one and only chilbuli friend.
Geet (smiles) Thanks! I am glad I have you in my life.
Meera: I hope you can talk like this in front of him...confidently.
Geet (stops eating as she remembers her sole reason for coming here...the project...she stops eating...) Meera I don't know how I am going to do this project with him. I was thinking to maybe ask the professor to let me work on this alone...I mean its better to do this then to make a fool of myself right?
Meera (st: damn what have I done I shouldn't have brought this subject up) umm Geet it might be too late to change now..the project is due soon how will you manage by yourself? (Geet was about to speak) umm Geet lets go...(she grabs the food quickly hoping it will distract her..) look at your watch...we have to be home soon before your dad comes remember...today is Saturday..your dad comes early today..
Geet: Ohh yeah...wait Meera..(she stops her and grabs the burger from her hands) I will walk and eat...I am still hungry...
Meera: Okay lets go...(both get into the elevator to the first floor..)
Geet: OMG Meera I forgot to tell you I had a dream of Maan last night...
Meera: About what? (Both get out of the elevator as Geet ate and walked)
Geet: Okay you know the flyer that Maan dropped on my lap with crossed off donkey's face? (Meera nodes her head) well in my dream I was at the park looking at the flyer when I saw someone's shadow..when I looked up guess who I saw?
Meera: lets see since this is a dream about Maan then am assuming you saw Maan
Geet: don't be smart (Meera laughs) anyway when I looked up Maan was standing there looking at me with a smile...and you know how his smile is right..I half way died seeing his smile...*sigh* (Meera nudges her to come out of her dreamland) ohh sorry..anyway when I saw him I couldn't speak at all
Meera: what a shocker...(she says sarcastically)
Geet: should I finish my story?
Meera: okay okay go..sorry
Geet: so he then said to me in his dreamy deep manly voice..."You were saying something..." well I can't say it like him but you should've heard him..and me I shook my head yes and then no..and then (Geet holds Meera's arm tightly...she screams in pain)
Meera: you are hurting me (Geet lets go)
Geet: sorry...so then...he started walking toward me..(she stops and faces Meera..) as he was taking his steps toward me I would take two steps back like this..(she steps back a little..) he would do it again and I would do the same again...until (Meera looks behind shocked trying to stop to her but she was no where to listen...) he would closer to me I would step back until I felll (she screams when she collided with someone falling on the floor...Meera looks at the sight in front of her..her burger was all over her suit leaving a big stain..everyone stops staring at Geet with a smile...Geet closes her eyes and tried to get up when she felt something warm underneath her..she looks at another set of hands that didn't belong to her...)
Meera: Geet get up...right now...(she looks at her with worry)
Geet turns around looking at who was underneath her...she sat there shocked unable to formulate anything...her crush Maan was mere inches away from her...she just stared at him forgetting her surrounding...her burger that was stuck on her suit dropped on his face...Meera hits her forehead with worry...Geet just sat there unable to move...he removes the burger from his face with anger..."will you please get up...or there is something else that is left to throw on me?"
Geet shakes her head yes and slowly gets up with Meera's help...he gets up slowly in pain...he was patting his clothes when he felt something wet..he looked down to see his whole pant was wet...he looks at the source...Geet looks down at the empty coke bottle that was spilled all over...everyone started laughing seeing his wet pant she looks at him with a nervous smile...Maan looks at everyone with anger making quiet..he then looks at Geet with anger...
Okay I tried making this as long as possible since I was way overdue my update..hope you guys enjoyed it! Also, I know Maan character is still in the dark but he will come to light slowly for now want to focus on Geet😳
