Both Nadeem and Ramesh Taurani were accused. Taurani, the owner of Tips music had a business rivalry with Gulshan Kumar, owner of T-Series.

Nadeem was upset because he was sidelined by T-series. Added to that he was in bad books with Gulshan because Nadeem had conflicts with singer Anuradha Paudwal who was close to Gulshan Kumar. Nadeem was also upset because he felt his album floped because of poor promotion by T-series.

Nadeem had bragged to friends that he will teach his former mentor, Gulshan a lesson.

Nadeem met up with underworld/drug smuggler Vicky Goswami during the inaugaration bash of Vicky's hotel in Dubai. It was at this bash they hatched the plan to kill Gulshan and hired Abu Salem for the job.

This bash was attended by stars like Salman, SRK, Boney, Jackie etc.

Both Nadeem and Taurani were acquitted because of lack of evidence. The main witness who was present at the meeting between Vicky and Nadeem turned hostile. He later died.

Other witnesses backtracked. There was no solid evidence and the case ended up to be a weak case against the accused.
