With New York as its backdrop, the film tackles the bonds of marriage with delightful touches of humour and romance. Beautifully amalgamating a Hollywood sensibility with Indian culture, it is a mature take on today's relationships. Sending an 'unfinished' film was a conscious decision, he says. "People at festivals are used to seeing rough cuts. The selection committee loved it so much that they wanted it sans 'finishing touches'. Honestly, an emotional film well told is all it takes to move hearts. And it has!"
Talking about the supposed Amitabh Bachchan-Shah Rukh Khan feud, Karan laughs, "Please come to the sets and see their camaraderie. There are more serious topics like war to deal with instead of writing such figments of imagination."
So, what about making a war film? "I am an eternal, sensitive optimist. Since there is so much sadness all around, I believe in making movies that'll help the audience escape into a 'beautiful world'. Though let me tell you, the characters of KANK have shades of grey too," he informs.
