Ritesh's one-scene cameo cut off
By Komal Nahta, July 24, 2006 - 02:07 IST
Ritesh Deshmukh must be very disappointed that the one-scene cameo that he did for Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna has got cut off in the editing. However, somebody should mention to him the brighter side of the loss; Karan Johar owes him and would probably repay with a much better and longer role than the one that got left behind in the edit room. A much brighter way to look at things, na?
Jeetendra's love for dogs
By Komal Nahta, July 24, 2006 - 02:11 IST
Not many must be aware of Jeetendra's love for dogs. Not only does the veteran actor-producer have a couple of canines as pets but he also takes care of street dogs, numbering more than 50! Yes, Jeetu and his wife, Shobha Kapoor, have a habit of providing milk, lunch and dinner to the four-legged creatures. So while Dharmendra is known for his Kutte, tera khoon pee jaaonga dialogue, Jeetendra would do well to say, "Kutte, tujhe doodh pilaaoonga!"
Priyanka Chopra to 'Don' a bikini

We'll be seeing a lot of Priyanka Chopra in Farhan Akthar's remake of Don. And by that we mean she will be seen in a bikini. She will be clad in the two piece clothing when she will be enacting the same scene out, which Zeenat Aman did in the original, way back in 1978. Priyanka's oomph factor is sure to be seen onscreen. However, this is not the first time Priyanka will be wearing such an attire. She earlier sizzled in a bikini in movies like Andaaz and Aitraaz. Waiting to see whether Priyanka Chopra will sizzle up to the expectations of Zeenat!
Kumar Gaurav in a silent film
By IndiaFM News Bureau, July 24, 2006 - 04:51 IST
Although an interesting way to make a film, silent movies have been made very rarely in India. Talk about silent films and the only name that comes to your mind is Pushpak starring Kamal Hassan and Amla. Though Pushpak was originally a south Indian film, it was a big success across India as it did not have any language barrier. Another silent film came out in 2004 called Mr Lonely Miss Lovely, but the film went without a trace. However, a new film maker is now making a silent film which apparently will mark his directorial debut. Rahul Kapoor, son of actor Bharat Kapoor, is shooting his debut film titled My Daddy Strongest, which is a silent film.

The film has an interesting starcast as well. Kumar Gaurav is the lead actor and his costar is British actress Tanny Jones. The film is about a 13yr old kid who wants his father to be the strongest but the film basically is comedy. Says director Rahul Kapoor that he wanted to try something different and experimental, therefore he went for a silent film. Seventy per cent of the film is shot and Rahul Kapoor is looking forward for a December release. The film has no songs, but for the sake of promotions, they might record one.
Amitabh Bachchan does an 'item number'
By IndiaFM News Bureau, July 24, 2006 - 04:53 IST
After the stupendous success of Bunty Aur Babli, director Shaad Ali is working on his next offering. Titled 'Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom', the film stars Bobby Deol, Abhishek Bachchan , Preity Zinta and Lara Dutta. And while Amitabh Bachchan plays the 'sutradhar', he has also been roped in to feature in the title song of the film. Composed by the trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the song has lyrics by Gulzar. The song titled Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom itself, is a semi-qawwalli track. The team has put in an extra effort to make the song special.

Incidentally, this is the same team which was behind Kajra Re, one of the biggest hits of last year. Let's hope they manage to recreate the same magic, this time as well.
Rekha to sing for Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamana
By IndiaFM News Bureau, July 24, 2006 - 04:57 IST
The evergreen Rekha will soon be putting her vocal chords to good use. She is all set to sing Mohammed Rafi's ghazal Din Dhal Jaye, for her forthcoming film Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamana, directed by Amar Bhutala. It wasn't exactly planned, beforehand. She was just humming the song on the sets, when the director suggested that she should actually sing in the movie! The original ghazal was composed by S D Burman and sung by Mohammed Rafi. She has managed to sing on very high notes.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that Rekha has sung for a movie. She earlier sang the song Eiffel Tower, written and composed by Anu Malik, in the film Bach Ke Rehna Re Baba.
Isha and Mona walk out of Shaka Laka Boom Boom too
By IndiaFM News Bureau, July 24, 2006 - 05:00 IST
After Sanaa Panscholi, Isha Koppikar was the second actress to walk out of Suneel Darshan's Shaka Laka Boom Boom. And now, the latest actress to opt out of the film is Mona Chopra (who now calls herself Menka Chopra).

Menka had earlier done a cameo in Suneel Darshan's Dosti. In the upcoming film Shaka Laka Boom Boom, she was again supposed to play a cameo opposite Bobby Deol. But the actress says that she is now looking forward to lead roles only. She also told Suneel Darshan that she wasn't keen on playing the role and he understood her viewpoint. Shaka Laka Boom Boom is currently under production and stars Bobby Deol, Upen Patel, Kangana Ranaut and Celina Jaitley.
Interview : I'm glad skin thing is over: Neha

After showing skin without any reservation in films like 'Julie' and 'Sheesha', bold and beautiful Neha Dhupia treads a non-glamorous path in Priyandarshan's comedy 'Chup Chup Ke' and says she is relieved.

'I almost feel like a debutante again. I am glad that the skin thing is over,' Neha told us in an interview.

She feels 'Chup Chup Ke', where she featured with Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur, has changed her image.

''Chup Chup Ke' gave me a new de-glamorised avatar. Everyone thinks of me as a girl with the bronzed body. People were shocked to see me wearing a salwar-kameez throughout the film.

'There is no fun being an actress if you don't keep re-inventing yourself. I went through this supposedly sexy phase. And let me tell you 'Chup Chup Ke' was fun for many reasons, including Bebo (Kareena) who was absolutely hassle-free. In fact, I stand by her behaviour,' said Neha.

While Kareena played the mute mademoiselle, Neha was the chirpy talkative one. 'So it's a nice cute balance between us.'

She cannot get over the fact that Priyadarshan offered her a non-glamorised role.

'I was that hot babe in Priyan's (Priyadarshan's) earlier film 'Garam Masala'. I had a brief role there. That I guess led to bigger things in 'Chup Chup Ke',' added the actor.

Priyadarshan had promised her a more prominent part next time. 'But in this industry who keeps promises? Priyan did and I respect that,' said Neha, who is also excited about her new image in other films.

'Gradually the sexy wave has peaked. I was comfortable enough with Deepak Shivdasani's 'Julie'. It was an author-backed role for me. I relished doing it.

'But somewhere by the time I came to 'Sheesha' the steamy thing ran out steam. Audiences got tired of watching such films. But I am not ashamed of what I did.'

Neha admits 'Sheesha' had an excess of the skin and smooch formula.

'You know in hindsight it's easy to say what went wrong with a film. There were many things that I could feel going wrong with 'Sheesha' when we were doing it. Some bits of the film were definitely over-the-top.

'But there was nothing I could say without sounding arrogant and out-of-turn. Unfortunately for the film and fortunately for me 'Sheesha' didn't work. Otherwise, I'd get more such offers,' she said.

Talking about her role in 'Teesri Aankh', she said: 'Let's just put it this way. (Director) Harry Baweja and me go back a long way. He had launched me in 'Qayamat'. When he offered me this new film I couldn't question him about the role. Some things in life you do blindly.'

She is very excited about 'Ek Chaalis Ki Last Local' where she is totally in an unglamorous role.

'It's about these two strangers - me and Abhay Deol. The fresh pairing is exciting. We meet and spend two hours together. It is a comedy of errors. It is a really funky film,' said Neha about the film.

Finally, Ujjawal Chatterjee's 'Uthaan' which he claims is inspired by model Jessica Lal's life.

'Not what I have shot. My character doesn't have anything to do with Jessica Lal. I play an ambitious model who chooses between love and career. It is a simple story and fortunately I didn't have to do anything cheesy.'

After-hours?

'I've moved into my new place. I really spend a lot of time working out. I spend at least two hours in the gym. I like to spend time cooking. I am very domesticated. I'd rather stay at my new home and watch TV or read a book than go out and party.'

Neha admits she had relationships in the past but there is no one special in her life right now.

'There have been relationships off and on. But nothing spectacular and nothing right now. I don't want to fall in love. I want to rise in love. I don't want to go ballistic when I fall in love. The only thing that I want to surrender to is my work,' said the actor, happy to be out of the so-called sexy image.

Interview : I am emotionally committed to Mylene: Milind Soman

I am emotionally committed to Mylene: Milind Soman

After playing a sleuth in '16 December' and a supermodel in 'Pyaar Ka Super Hit Formula', model-turned-actor Milind Soman is now playing a husband in real life. Ask him about his wife, French actress Mylene Jampanoi, and the newly-married actor just cannot stop grinning.

'Mylene is an amazing girl. We met on the sets of 'Valley of Flowers' in Ladakh. It is the most unforgettable period of my life,' Milind Soman told entertainment us in an interview.

'My wife...knows that I love her very much. I am emotionally committed to her,' he added.

Despite a not-so-successful career so far, Milind is gung-ho about the achievements of actors who hopped onto the Bollywood bandwagon from the ramp.

'People should stop saying that model turned actors are not very successful. What would you say about John Abraham, Dino Moria, Bipasha Basu, Jackie Shroff, Zeenat Aman, Kabir Bedi?'

Excerpts from the interview:

You have been reportedly involved with celebrities like Madhu Sapre, Tabu and Gul Panag. And then you suddenly got married to French actor Mylene.

We have been seeing each other for the last two years. And I felt that it is difficult to sustain a relationship. But I always had an expectation that one day I will have a long-term one. Mylene is an amazing girl. We met on the sets of 'Valley of Flowers' in Ladakh. It is the most unforgettable period of my life. We used to meet and spend time together. After the shooting was over, I took Mylene to meet my mother in Goa. At the airport, I proposed her and we decided to get married in Goa itself.

You had a very simple marriage ceremony away from the media glare.

I wanted a quiet ceremony - a simple one only with our families and close friends.

What is so special about Mylene?

You cannot actually say what is special about the person you love.

You have been a woman's man. How does your wife react to it?

She is well aware of the fact that I've an attractive personality and is comfortable with it. My wife trusts me and she knows that I love her very much. I am emotionally committed to her.

Has marriage changed your life?

Nothing has changed as of now but my life may see some changes in the future. (Laughs) We will have kids.

What about honeymoon?

We had a plan to go to Jaisalmer. But both of us are busy with work, so we have postponed it till the next year.

What is your role in 'Katputhli'?

In 'Kathputli', I am playing the role of a doctor who runs a very big hospital. In the beginning of the film my wife goes missing. The film is full of suspense from the very beginning. The film is shot very elegantly and these kind films are rarely found in India.

How is the music of the film?

The music of the film is commercial, mainstream and popular. It's soft and romantic. I believe people will like it. There are few dance tracks as well.

Tell us about your experience about 'Valley of Flowers'?

'Valley of Flowers' is a European film - a mix of French, German and Indian. The production team has made good utilisation of the resources. No one was assigned multiple tasks. I had a fantastic time while shooting in Ladhakh. It's a great place. The cast of the film is great and I gained the experience to work with great people. 'Valley of Flowers' is an interesting film - there are a lot of questions unanswered. Not everyone can understand the philosophy but movie is certainly adventurous.

It is said that 'Valley of Flowers' is a confused cocktail. What do you have to say about it?

I have nothing to say.

There have been many models who disappeared after one film. Can model turned actors actually make it big?

People should stop saying that model turned actors are not very successful. In that case what would you say about John Abraham, Dino Mourya, Bipasha Basu, Jacky Shroff, Zeenat Aman, Kabir Bedi? Millions of people come to Mumbai with the aspiration of becoming an actor. How many of them actually make it? But 50 percent of the models make it to the silver screen.

You have not been seen much on the screen of late.

I don't do much of mainstream films. I like to do films that I find are unusual. If I find that the character offered to me is a copy from another film or the storyline is a reproduction of a Hollywood film, I don't sign it. Moreover, I am interested in working with new people as they are full of energy and they have the spirit to do something different.

What's in the pipeline?

A Tamil film which is a very interesting project. I cannot tell you about the rest.

You have already ventured into the field of film production. What about direction?

I am interested more in production. I'm also looking forward to international production projects. Direction is a difficult and complex job.

What are your plans for future?

I will work like I do.

The Congress Party in Uttar Pradesh is now making a 40-minute documentary to regain lost ground in the coming Assembly session. The film titled 'UP-Nama - Kya Khoya, Kya Paya' attempts to "exposes" the 15 years of the non-Congress Party rule in Uttar Pradesh. The documentary alleges that the non-Congress parties, particularly the presently ruling Samajwadi Party, have promoted casteism and communalism for electoral gains and ignored the development of the state. This film will be shown in the rural interiors of the state as soon as we get the Censor clearance because when elections actually begin, there is no time to hold film shows because candidates are busy with their own respective campaigns," says UPCC president Salman Khursheed.
