17. The Ploy
He didn't understand himself, this paradox of emotion he felt, that she made him feel. Even with miles between them thoughts of her and the wish to be back with her was like a nag at the back of his mind. The strange restlessness made it difficult for him to concentrate on the work at hand. He shouldn't have left whatever the reason. But the deal was important and it was difficult to send someone else in his place in such short notice.
He closed the laptop to walk towards the window and watch the illuminated city with unseeing eyes. It seemed impossible to sleep...he couldn't find a comfortable position in the king size bed when his thoughts were homebound. He refused to encourage the notion that sleep eluded him because he was not in his own bed to comfort the person who was the reason for his outrage. Why should it matter to him that she may be finding it difficult to sleep without the security of his presence. He dismissed the possibility that rose unbidden and unwelcome that she has her influence on him, that she touched something deep within him...no... he was concerned for her safety because she carried his name, it was his responsibility to see to her safety when she was with him. Yet she had kept the fact that some fool was calling her with lewd intentions...She considered him her husband and wanted him to accept her as his wife. Dammit! didn't marriage entail trust? Wasn't a wife supposed to share her problems with her husband? She didn't tell him, yet she told Mahi. It hurt... It made him furious...
"How would I feel like approaching you with this trouble when you yourself were troubling me."
He slammed his hand against the window ledge. Trouble! He was troubling her!! Oh! He wouldn't deny the fact that he was attracted to her. But he had denied himself from acting on it... he had his desire under control even when he had known the attraction was mutual until that night at the lake. She was the one who insisted, no begged that he take her. Wasn't she the one who pulled him back to her when he had resisted half-heartedly. So how did he become a villain when he did the same? When he tried to break down her resistance... She wanted him to treat her as his wife that night at the lake, so now when he was ready to continue doing so why should she object...why look at him with accusing eyes? Why the change of heart and the withdrawal when he suggested a suitable solution, that they continue their relation? Even when many a times he could have persuaded her to ignore her own denials, he hadn't done so... hadn't he accepted her verbal denials while she responded to him with such abandon, like her body was fine tuned for him. Still, had he forced her? Yet she painted him as a villain, someone who was like that creep who called her. He fumed.
"I don't think you should plan to meet that ...that man. We don't know what he is capable of." Dadi protested.
"What can he do Dadima, when the police is just a shout away?" Geet argued.
"This is stupidity Geet. I don't want you to do this , especially when Maan is not here."
"But Dadi, Maan told me to deal with it, that he didn't want to interfere." Geet said stubbornly.
"And you know why he said that. You shouldn't have kept the crank calls secret from him, whatever the reason. A husband has the right to know. This was not some small issue that you could keep from him because you had a tiff with your husband."
Geet wondered what Dadi's reaction would be if she knew the real reason for the tension. She was sure Dadi would understand her reluctance. How could she tell the woman who loved her like a daughter the humiliation she felt due to her grandson, especially when Dadi was not keeping good health after the fever. Still Dadi had clued in on something being wrong from her plight after Maan left, ridden by anguish and guilt. He had not given her a chance to resolve the tension after the outburst and it hurt that he had gone off in anger. He had treated her to seething silence and haughty aloofness, glaring her to silence when she had tried to talk to him. But what could she have said ...what explanation could she have given to sooth his temper? Her retort in anger was true... she sighed.
"Don't worry beta, you know Maan. He is quick to temper ...but now he must be regretting leaving you in anger."
"It feels like I don't know him anymore, Dadi... he doesn't react the way I expect him to, the way the Maan I married would react. My love doesn't matter to him anymore." She tried not to be affected by the burning pain that clogged her throat.
"Beti.." Dadi put a comforting hand on hers.
"Sometimes it becomes so painful to keep fighting... It's been months..." she shook her head to clear the desperate thoughts and a solitary tear slid down. Dashing it away with a brave smile she turned to the matter at hand... to convince Dadi about meeting the stalker.
"He has never really talked to me before...but now he has. He knows Maan is away and I think his confidence is due to that... He will not think I will try to trap him. He thinks of me as a defenceless woman..." A woman who craved for love being neglected by her husband, she thought about his words. "He doesn't love you. I know he treats you like dirt ... I love you Geet, let me show you how much. I want to meet you..." and his sound seemed a familiar...
"Exactly why I don't want you to agree to meet him." Dadi asserted.
"He forgets that I am Geet Maan Khurana, Maan Singh Khurana's wife. He has tried to harass me and I will make sure that he will never dare this on anyone else.i will strip him bare." The flash of fire in her eyes made Dadi feel proud and waver in her resolve to disagree to Geet's plan.
"Are you really sure you want to do this?" apprehension evident in her voice.
"Yes Dadi... don't worry I will be safe." Get tried to comfort Dadi.
"You know nothing can stop me from being worried until all this is over and you are back home."
"I really want to do this Dadi. ..teach that creep a lesson that he will never forget. But if you are going to make yourself sick over me, then I won't go."
Dadi was torn...she knew Geet was right to go ahead with her plan to capture the stalker yet she was uneasy. Above that she had not had any contact from Maan since his last call when she had told him that the stalker had finally talked to Geet. The cold war between her favourite people was still going on, with Maan refusing to talk to Geet.
"Have you called the police to make sure they will be in place?"
"Yes Dadi."
"And Mahi you will follow Geet and that scoundrel as close as possible?"
"Yes Dadi, I will make sure that no harm will come to your bahu." Mahi assured then turned to Geet, "Ready? It is almost time."
"Yes." Determination etched her features though there were butterflies in her stomach.
In the last few nights the stalker had called to talk to Geet. After the initial shock Geet was decided that she will draw him out though for that she had to endure his pretence and declarations of love. And that night when he had called he expressed his wish to meet her, just what Geet and the police were waiting for. If he was confident about meeting her because he considered it too short a notice to plan anything he was mistaken. For the officer assigned to her case was sure such a move would come from the stalker and was in fact ready to take charge on a call from Geet.
Geet was shocked to find that the stalker was one of the new staff recruited in KC, a new architect with whom she had interacted a couple of times. No wonder he was aware of the tension and also about Maan's absence. It angered her further that someone whom her family had trusted had dared to do this.
"I can't believe you are finally here with me... so near me... my fantasy..." he reached out a hand to touch her and Geet tried her best not to flinch. She had to lead him on...give a chance to the police to arrest him on some definite charges.
"Believe it ...this is not a dream." More like a nightmare, she thought as she tried to keep the smile pasted on her face.
"But it feels like one... a night when my fantasies have come alive." He hid his smirk as he watched her eyes darting around in apprehension as if she was scared someone would see her with him. He couldn't believe he had finally hit the jackpot...She was really a beauty... with lush curves and a striking face, that she was a rich man's wife was just an added advantage. She was finally in his web... though he wanted nothing more than to satiate himself sinking into her heat, he would have to take things slow lest he would frighten her away. No no...he supressed the stirrings of his body .. Play a bit on her emotions ... widen the rift between her and her husband ... convince her that he truly loved her and he can be the owner of Khurana Empire. He knew about the shares that her fool of a husband had transferred into her name when he was besotted with her. He just needed to play the cards right... He had to be patient
"I am so happy that you finally accepted to meet me... thank you Geet."
"I was feeling lonely." Geet made a sad face. "Then when you called and told me you wanted to see me, I don't know what came over me... "she sighed. "But I need to go back now, I told Dadi I was going to Pinky's house and will be back in a couple of hours."
"There is still time then." He looked at the watch. "Let my aching heart have a new moments with you..." he pleaded catching hold of her hands.
Geet freed her hands softly when she wanted to snatch it away, looked around and giving an appearance of capitulation said, "Not here... someone will recognise me..."
"Let's go somewhere else then... tell me where and I till take u."
"I don't know if I should..."
"Please Geet... you don't know how much I love you..."
"Okay...okay..."
On Geet's directions Rohit drove to KC's newly bought property. Geet was desperate to get out after enduring the lusty looks during the drive. Once the car stopped, he turned towards her and Geet gave a coy smile.
"You know Rohit I have never been so reckless in my life... You make me feel care free ... like I just need to say my wish and you will fulfil it."
"Tell me then," He said with the confidence that he was winning Geet over."I am yours to command."
"Really?"
"Really I will do anything you want... please you any way you want..." His voice husky as his eyes slipped down to her body.
She supressed the shudder by leaning on the door and giving him a searching look then giggled, "I told you I am in a strange mood tonight...this is a mad fantasy I have...' she paused dramatically.
"Tell me," he urged.
"No...leave it... I am sure you won't do that... You will be shocked."
"I won't I promised." He caught her hand, "I swear I will do anything you ask me to...fulfil every fantasy you have..."
"Okay... but you promise you won't laugh." She took a deep breath and blurred out. "I want you to do strip tease for me."
"What?"
"I knew you won't do it..." she pouted, "You swore you will fulfil my fantasies and still."
"No Geet... don't you think.."
"There is no one else here just the two of us." She interrupted, "please..."
Rohit looked around to make sure the place was deserted. Geet was something else, he thought, he had thought it would take him ages to convince her to accept him as her lover. But here she was giving that chance in a platter.
"All right... If that is what you wish," he accepted.

With flashy moves he removed his t-shirt. Geet moved to the driver's seat and took it from him. Next he unbuckled his belt, drew it out of the loops slowly to twirl it over his head. With a seductive smile, he threw it away.
Beyond the walls of the property Mahi struggled to control his laughter as he observed the scene.
Geet averted her eyes when Rohit removed his trousers and offered it to her. Grabbing it to dump it in the seat.
"Enough? Or should I.." Rohit teased hooking his fingers on the waistband of his brief, so into the seduction mood.
"Thank you ... I think that should do more than enough." Geet said with false calm before she started the car.
"Geet.." Rohit shouted in shock as he ran after the car speeding away from him, which left him stranded in a remote place without clothes and his mobile.
With her legs on the accelerator Geet sped away watching the brief clad Rohit becoming smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror as he ran after his car. She didn't slow the car to acknowledge Mahi who was waiting near his car, to follow her and take her back. She thanked Babaji for the lonely stretch of road which enabled her to drive without the need to concentrate on the traffic as she was still new to driving...she needed to put as much distance as she could between her and that man. Minutes passed before she became aware of the frantic honking of Mahi's car which made her look at the speedometer. She was touching 100. After slowing down to stop the car, she turned off the key with trembling fingers.
Opening the door she stumbled out of the car , not wanting to be in contact with anything that belonged to that creep. With shaking legs she took one step then another away from the car and stumbled. Strong hands caught her from falling.
"Maan..." she whispered the name of the person whom she wanted to melt into. Looking up she saw Mahi with concerned eyes.
"Geet... what happened?"
She put her arms around his waist to hold on tight. Her whole body shivering as she let go of the anguish that had reigned her for the past days.
"Sh! Baby...it's over now...the cops will pick him up...you were brilliant..." Mahi stroked his hand down her hair and back in soothing motion as her tears drenched his chest.
