Lust:(excessive thoughts,or desires of a sexual nature)With the introduction of the character Sameer Diwan,we get the introduction of the first of Seven Deadly Sins. This character,Sameer had been possessive about getting Indira,a girl of inferior birth, and socially unmatched for him;not because he loved her,but only because he wanted her to dominate, wanted her physically. But the element of lust has not gone away with the character Sameer,it still pervades with the introduction of the new character Sumer, whose physical presence is always given the major priority than the emotional one.Though this character is not sketched similar to Sameer Diwan, but subconsciously his actions look lustful.
Gluttony:(over-indulgence and over consumption of anything at the point of waste)The perfect example of the character, who shows gluttony is Munna Sharma;an alcohol addict, whose wife and child needs his financial support for their basic needs. But he is rather a burden himself on his sister,Indira, who is the bread-earner of the family.
Greed:When we talk about this sin,the sin of being greedy, the whole lot of characters, except Indira,Rishi, and Ishaan, are the perfect embodiment of it.Indira's parents,brother,sister,sister-in-law,everyone are in pursuit of wealth and power. They also site other examples of greedy behavior, such as-disloyalty,deliberate betrayal for personal gain.Again-n-again they have been seen to breach Indira's trust, and at present, her own father is going to betray her by being the one,who has made Rishi kidnap,(the love and life of his daughter),and threaten his life, for Inder Sharma's personal gain.
Sloth:(failure to utilize one's talents and gifts, being indifferent)Well this sin has been manifested in characters like Munna, who is good in PR,but he never utilizes it;not even when his sister got him a job as a sales agent in a car-showroom.His gift of convincing people could have been utilized for better purpose.
Wrath:(rage)Now this part of the Seven Sins,is seen almost in all Indira's family members, esp.in the characters Inder Sharma,Kutum Sharma,Munna, and to a certain extent in Mandira too. They all inhibit this uncontrolled and inordinate feelings of hatred and anger for Indira and Rishi. And this has led to violence for a number of times in the story.
Envy:This green-eyed monster seems to have possessed most of the characters in 'HD',starting from Mandira, who had tried to seduce her sister's love, but it rather ended in her own destruction;Inder Sharma's second wife have hired goons to kill Indira, because of rage and envy.Besides,Indira's entire family is envious of her happiness, which is why they have always been an obstacle to Indira and Rishi's love.
Pride:(most serious of the Seven Sins,a desire to be more important than others;failing to acknowledge the good work of others, and excessive love of self)All these characteristics of pride are there in the characters-Inder,Kutum,Munna,Mandira,Suinnaina.They all have always considered their happiness to be the priority;never acknowledged Indira's sacrifice, her unconditional love for them;or the good deeds of Rishi, who has been a support to them in the worst of times.
Therefore, coming to the conclusion of my analysis of the show,I believe that, the writer is not giving us any good message through her work.It presents the Seven Deadly Sins in a vivid way,and mirrors these flaws more importantly.Entertainment is something, which gives a sense of joy and pleasure;which once,as the show had started, given us. but 'HD',as it has been presented to us for the past one,or two months, encourages pessimism;it is a sadist work.It could have been much more easier to appreciate the story, had it been a documentary on true stories,or a thriller. But it does not justify to any genre purely. It is entirely my point-of-view,and I don't intend to hurt any one's feelings. All the fellow members, please share your views-how do you see this show represents?
