🤢Again, I noticed a lot people here and elsewhere alleging this show is nothing different or has done nothing beyond talking or sending SMS. More explanation:
- The show is dubbed in 8 different regional languages and even promoted differently in each region by Aamir Khan himself. It is to be shown in 100 countries. All of which are FIRST for any Indian TV show. No other talk show had such reach or was designed to be viewed by whole country in this manner!
- Other shows only show fictionalised reconstructions of original cases. Whereas this show has shown only real people, talking their issues themselves. So those comparing it to likes of Crime Patrol are only belittling their own intelligence.
- This show gives everyone time to talk. It's not like those NDTV or CNN-IBN shows where the anchor herself keeps running to different people, cuts them or snatches the mic to give to others. SMJ let EVERY single person speak - whether the ones in audience, the guests or the ones contacted via video conferencing. This is the first time in recent years that a show has given everyone a chance to speak for themselves! Aamir wasn't snatching mic from anyone or cutting them.
- REACHING REMOTE AREAS - The show will be screened in remote rural areas of India that have no electricity or TV sets at all. And all expenses of setting up community television will be borne by Aamir and STAR themselves! This is the first time any producer and broadcaster have made an effort to show their stuff to remotest parts of country, bearing expenses from their own pockets!
[People talk of money STAR or Aamir are earning. No one thinks how much they have spent! It's no less than a big budget movie!!Unheard of effort and expenditure for a TV show in history of India!😲]
- FOLLOW UP - Unlike other shows, SMJ will not just talk about the issue for 90 minutes on Sunday and leave it at that. There will be follow up columns in Hindustan Times written by Aamir Khan on each issue, every Monday. And a follow up segment on Star News every Friday on audience feedback, response, impact and account of action taken on every issue taken up previous Sunday!
NO show has ever done extensive FOLLOW UP on any episode ever! [Including Crime Patrol!😆]
- Research and Wholesome coverage of issues- Honestly speaking, most shows are lifted from popular newspaper reports. They are not backed by verified and factual research on EVERY aspect as this one is. A Crime Patrol or We The People does not discuss the issue FROM EVERY possible angle - the way SMJ did by showing women from three different strata of society and economic backgrounds and reporters/experts/government officials from each affected region - Rajasthan, Punjab/Haryana, Delhi. We The People will rarely show you a person from rural area giving his viewpoint unless the issue directly concerns them. They talk with posh Mumbai/Delhi crowd, with fellow reporters, socialites posing as experts and lo! Job is done!
Other shows do not really explain the issue much to audience. They give a brief intro and fire away with debate or story. In SMJ Aamir also explained the issue (which seemed simplistic to us urban people but was necessary for less educated rural/semi urban ones!) and its basics through graphs and discussing popular myths.
SMJ is not like that. Its audience is not just us internet junkies, but even our maids, watchmen and their families back in their native villages! Its canvas is too broad which is why its narrative seems inconsistent to some of us educated individuals!
- Taking action - All shows only give speeches or take SMS polls. No one ever gave any slightest step to take REAL action. Satyamev Jayate is giving conventional options like leaving comments, sharing experiences, stories, solutions, ideas on their website, showing support through social network apps. Calling them up via phone to discuss each issue or recording videos and sharing with them and sending letters/postcards through snail mail.

The SMS in SMJ is not just for poll. Each and every penny (after tax deduction) shall be donated to reliable and long-standing NGOs identified, working for this cause! DONATION IS THERE! Even Reliance Foundation has partnered with SMJ to donate equal amount from their side, as collected through audiences' SMSes! Whereas media ignores this aspect and says even SMS is there to make money or how will it make a difference!🤢
There were details given to send donations during the show through cheque. Option to donate via cheque or credit card is there on SMJ official website too.

[Some are still not aware of it because they got influenced by negativity in sections of media or didn't notice what Aamir himself said on the show, nor did they bother to see the site properly!]
Now please tell me which other show has ever done that in history of Indian television? How many celeb hosts or Crime Patrol types not only worked in a show to raise awareness on issues, but also did follow up through print media and TV, invited and showed viewers' ideas and response AND also raised money for NGOs working on those issues?
With so many ways to raise awareness, reach people and raise funds for those working on the causes how is it same as usual Hum Log you see every Sunday on NDTV or a Crime Patrol?Do those shows take issues beyond their usual 1 hour slot?
SMJ is an amalgamation of shows that debate, those that recognise action-takers and those that educate - plus it raises funds for people working on issues and also presents audience ideas in follow up segments post each episode, the coming Friday!No show ever had another episode just for follow up!
Still people allege what is new or different? Or it's just to make money for STAR and Aamir?😡 GET FACTS RIGHT FIRST! Look beyond hate against Aamir - just coz he's a film star or not your favorite star!
