What to say about the show? I am entirely speechless. Not that it is the first ever show that tries to shake our sense of reality and goads us into thinking mode. Yet, I cannot but help appreciate the makers (Aamir Khan, Star Plus and the entire team of Satyamev Jayate) for making such a hard-hitting, truthful and sincere show.

India is a home to many problems. Whether it's corruption, communalism, or women-centric problems like dowry killings and female infanticide, not a single individual in our country is untouched from these for his/her entire life. Yet, how many times do we actually do something about it? We have the highest number of engineers and management students in the entire world. How many of them want a career in a direction that lets them do something socially relevant rather than making them a slave to the corporate life and a machine for minting money? Take this blog for example. Some really talented people dedicate their time and energy commenting about various shows and writing their own imagination about them. How many write-ups came on Satyamev Jayate?

I salute you Aamir for not only showing all these years that you are an exceptionally talented and honest actor but an equally good human being. Rather than calling celebrities to chat about random stuff, we saw real people on the show who play a significant role by raising their voices against the horror of female infanticide or have horrendously suffered its consequences. I salute you for your effort and clarity of your intentions, the strength of conviction that was visible throughout the show. Thank You for taking care that not only house-wives but every member of the family watches the show on Sunday.

How can a society that claims to be educated and civilized consent and support such an atrocity on humanity? The lady who was a doctor and a mother of twin girls (Mrs. Mitu Khurana) was married to an orthopaedic surgeon. Her mother-in-law was a retired vice-principal of a reputed college in Delhi. Extremely well-to-do and educated family. What do a girl's parents look for before marrying her? Where did Mitu's parents go wrong in choosing a suitable groom for their daughter? What kind of woman throws her two-month old infant granddaughter off the staircase? What kind of heartlessness and lack of civility would have resided in that wretched woman? Being a woman and a mother, how could do this?

Parveen, the mother of two girls who somehow saved her daughters from being murdered. What did she get in return? Her husband bit her face off. That man deserves the most horrible punishment existing on the face of earth. Amisha whose child was aborted six times in four years had an entirely unbelievable story to tell. The judge in the court where her in-laws and husband had appealed for bail not only justified but supported the guilty's wrongdoing before the case even started. The protectors of law who are supposed to punish the guilty are believers as well as followers of such a cruel practice? And they shamelessly proclaim their support?

Kudos to Shripal Saktavat and the lady journalist (sorry I forgot her name) for re-affirming what role media can play in making a common man aware of the horrors around him and trying to bring the guilty to task. Yet, the stunning revelation that not even a single doctor's licence has been cancelled in the medical history despite 10 lakh infanticide cases happening in India annually tells the tale of a pathetic condition of law, order and the lethargy in its implementation on part of the people of India. No doctor in the videos of the sting operation carried out by the two journalists (even though their faces and names of hospitals were clearly visible in the videos) was ever convicted. In fact they were promoted. And the two journalists have been fighting this endless battle on their own costs for the last seven years, sometimes facing threats of arrest and intimidation.

I can't get over what I saw. And the most disturbing aspect of the show is that it's all truth. Visible in our face and we are unable to do anything.

What I, as an individual can do? I can write about the issues raised in the show and express my opinions. So that my voice can reach as many people as possible. And also, I can do something for the sufferers around me. No amount of money can heal their pain. Yet, right education and the opportunity towards self-dependence can save many lives. I have already decided to contribute in this direction by being part of the movement and not by throwing money like alms to a charitable organization. My parents educated me. So now it's upon me to make the best use of it.

People living on streets and tribal people care and love their girl child. And educated people living in posh cities among all facilities commit such barbaric deeds. What kind of society is this? We ape so many things from West. Their clothes, their music, even their language. Why can't we learn something that's actually worth learning? Their freedom of speech, powerful law system that's put into implementation by most of the population willingly and not forcefully and most of all, the equality and respect that a woman gets in the Western civilization.

Whoever reads my post till the end has two choices.

1) Sit at home and watch the show on your television every Sunday and comment about the pathetic condition of people in India

2) Do something that makes a difference in the world that you are living in.

Aamir has used his stardom in the right way. And I agree with each and every word you said. I'm glad he didnt invite random celebs to talk abt random things but very accurately showed all the sides of the issue.

An inspirational show which makes me want to make a difference as well -be it a very small one, but at least just try to help.
