Written as a tribute to all those parents who raise their girls no different than their boys, maybe with little more love, who understand that having a girl is like having a miracle in your life. I saw today's episode of Satyameva Jayate and my heart constricted at the cruelty all around us directed towards a fetus and a whole gender. We are humans, lets act like one.
When you were in trouble that crooked little smile
Could melt my heart of stone
Now look at you, I've turned around
And you've almost grown
"Jaan, you don't need any of that stuff...my princess is the most beautiful as it is!" Arnav cooed into his darling daughter's ears as she tried on eye shadow after eye shadow in the fancy Lakme showroom he had been instructed to get her too along with her mother and Bua so that they could complete her school graduation look.
"Papa! Please!" was her reply and a scowl accompanying it which would put to shame any that he had ever been able to come up with. He sighed and looked beseechingly at his sister and his wife as they both chuckled at his expense and Khushi winked at him that ridiculous wink of hers - hadn't changed in the 20 years they had been married!
It was all their fault! They were helping his little princess grow up! She was not supposed to wear makeup so early on! It was bad for her skin! Yes, that's it! He decided excitedly. That would be his excuse!
Striding over to where the two woman were, he whispered to them urgently, masking his face in a 'I don't think this is right for her health' look.
"Di, Khushi...yeh makeup nonsense is not good for her skin! Tum hi toh bolti thi na Khushi ki yeh makeup se skin kharaab ho jaati hai! Toh ab?!"
They both sniggered making him frown.
