If there is one thing that television or Bollywood actors are on a constant search in their career…it is 'something different'. A different role, different dialogues, different director and these days a different look! While movies still stand to offer this difference, television doesn't entertain the word easily. However, Debina Banerjee and Sumit Arora, the cast of SAB TV's Chidiyaghar, have devised ways to break stereotype acting and enjoy every day on the telly tube. In Chandigarh for the promotion of the show, the actors talk about their little comfort zone called television.
Bring it on
Debina Banerjee
After playing a challenging and of course demanding role of Sita in Ramayan, it was time to do something light and easy. Mayuri, her character in Chidiyaghar, gave her what she needed the most — a different role. "Playing Sita was challenging. It wasn't easy; I did not imitate anyone. At the same time, I was emotionally stressed because of it, so I consciously was looking for something light. This is how I became a part of Chidiyaghar," shares Debina.
On television, every second character looks the same and this beautiful actress has devised her way to bring a little jazz to whatever she does. "I understand every saas and bahu on the show are the same; same sob story of sacrifice. My character Mayuri is easy and difficult at the same time. To make audiences laugh is a challenge," she smiles talking about how she breaks the monotony at work. "I have done reality shows and am open to many more. I did a singing reality show; another one where I could test my physical strength. Now, I want to do a dance reality show and I guess that will happen pretty soon," she says. With TV actors making it big on silver screen, does Debina has any such plans? "I don't plan my life; I do my best and leave everything else to the almighty. I would love to do a good movie if I get one."
Laugh it off
Sumit Arora
A long innings in theatre in Jaipur; lot of struggle, good number of TV advertisements, films and television serials, Sumit Arora has laughed his way from one show to the other. He likes comedy and this is where he brings in the difference. "I have always been doing comedy and I am comfortable with this genre. Every character is different and I try to bring it in variations as far as possible," adds Sumit, who feels his character in Chidiyaghar is light and interesting. "I would like to change my genre in acting."
