This awkward situation for Ahem had moved from bad to mortifying.
With the requirement to congratulate the bride and groom, the whole Modi family had no option but to fulfil this. It was admirable for Kokila to consider her son's needs and with a nod from him, she heeded the request of the host.
Ahem knew this was just fulfilling a protocol. He braced himself and dived in as though it was a business introduction. He showed no emotions outwardly, kept his voice firm and authoritive and introduced his wife. In return Nilesh reciprocated this by holding Anita. Neither did Ahem show remorse nor surprise to their closeness. He knew that this is a bitter moment that he would pass.
Gopi eased his pressure by taking her place to congratulate the couple. In response Anita replied in a monosyllable. This annoyed Ahem a lot, enough to voice her correction, which she did.
This is a pinnacle moment that tell us just where Ahem's thoughts and feelings lie - with his heart and within it resides his love, Gopi. He was decisive and would not tolerate the show of any lack of disrespect towards her. Looking on was Kokila who silently nodded at this interaction and now knowing that her son has moved on in his life.
What followed thereafter was Ahem falling victim to Rashi's tactical move leaving him mortified.
With this ends the bitter phase however it brings on a mortifying moment public. What is known arising out of this today is just where Ahem stands in all this.
