This month a medical student from AIIMS committed suicide after failing in his very first attempt in his exams. 2 years back another student in the same college similarly gave up his life. There have been many such incidents in the educational institutes like AIIMS and the IITs. Students work so hard to get admission into prestigious institutes like these only to end up stressed out. Is it worth all the trouble that students undergo to crack the entrance exams to get into such institutes? What could be the reason for increasing cases of suicides among students of professional colleges? Is it only due to failure in the exams or something more? Could it be due to failure to meet parents expectations even after managing admission to these colleges?

I think Love and Care is a basic need for these kind of ppl...they think are really finished with life but becos life is not fulfilling their demands... Bt no life ever fulfills anybody's demands. may be they dont know there will always go on missing something or other...

Personaly I'd rather die than commit suicide😊

Another Q:Why is it when CAT's decide to commit suicide they always choose my car/ a vehicle as the weapon of choice!?

One line in that article that could be key to this debate..

I think different people handle pressure in different ways. I agree with what Mr. Congeniality has said about actually enjoying what you do and wanting to study so you become more knowledgeable in a subject but it's become so rare to find someone that actually loves and enjoys what they do. I must admit I am quite jealous of such people and I hope one day I'm able to say the same.

Not too long ago I heard about a student that came to study from India (from Surat I think) at the London School of Economics. In order to fund this girl's education, her family sold the land they had in India and the girl ended up failing her second year exams. She then went to commit suicide.

So I'd say that if the student enjoys what they are studying or are dedicated enough to work hard in that subject then success will soon follow. The extra pressure usually only makes it worse. Having said that, I think giving someone the total freedom to do whatever they want may not always be the best option either but that depends on one's parenting skills and whether they prefer to let their kids learn from their own mistakes or do everything in their control to stop them making a decision which they think their child will eventually regret.

Family pressure, peer pressure, woman pressure, social pressure, personal pressure !

Tension ! Stress ! Mental Breakdown !

Some will still kill themselves even if they pass becoz the grades are not what they expect.

Problem is our Society and the Education System.

We are not taught to handle failure. Today's failure is tomorrow's excellence !

Not everyone who is put under pressure ends up killing him or her self. Therefore while such pressures should not be there I believe the responsibility goes on the person or if you don't like to held the person responsible then let me say it is person's characteristics that has more role in determining whether they would end up in suicide than pressure alone.

Who knows who is under what pressure. yet you don't see regular suicides. My advice to potentail suicide candidates would be to relax. Underachievement does not mean one is any less than others. Achievers does not alway mean they are someone special. So no need to waste your life. With time people fit in somewhere.
