The next day, Gunjan had been in a bad mood all day. She had been completely unwilling to go see the doctor since she had to walk alot until she reached her cabin. And Gunjan had been keeping pretty low since it was her 8^th Month. She ate more than ever and she had become very lazy compared to what she was. She angrily dialled his office number, "Samrat Shergill, You have no sense of responsibility, do you? I feel as if I am a single mother!" She yelled on the phone. "Maam. Sir has already left 15 minutes ago." His secretary replied. "Oh. I am sorry." Gunjan said biting her lip. She kept the phone. She went down the stairs slowly with a bulging stomach. She felt very unstable. Her leg twisted and she was about to fall when two strong hands held her and placed her back on her feet. "Do you have any idea how late you are?" she yelled again. "Gunjan, I am just 5 minutes late! And what were you trying to do?! You would have fallen!" he said angrily. "I was going down" she said "Next time WAIT for me. How can you be so irresponsible?"he scolded. That was pretty ironic because just a few seconds earlier Gunjan had yelled the same on the phone. " I have been waiting to go to the doctor for so long! My stomach is hurting!" she yelled. "WHAAT? Has it burst?" Samrat exclaimed. "Are you crazy! You really know nothing about all this. I wouldn't be here standing and talking to you if it had! Stop becoming paranoid." She practically scolded him. "Gunjan.. relax.. calm down.. you are becoming paranoid." He said as he placed his hands around her. "Dont 'Shhh' me!" she said as she walked down the stairs only with his support. Samrat just stood their wiping his sweat. 'Phew. Thank god she didnt chuck something at me today!' he thought. 'I really thought she would' Gunjan's mood swings were too much to handle.

As they sat down in the car, "Samrat, I irritate you so much na?" she said innocently. "No Gunjan, dont be silly." He said. "I must be so annoying!" "No your not! Your a darling!" he replied switching on the AC. "So will you take me for dinner today?" she asked grinning at him. "Gunjan.. you know your not allowed..and" he said. "Please Samrat!" she pleaded. "I haven't eaten out for ages.! And I hate the food they make at home!" she said. "Ok. Fine. After we go to the doctor's!". Gunjan smiled and side hugged her husband.

As they walked together to the cabin Gunjan said, "I cant wait for the baby to come into this world." "Hmm.. I cant wait either. Atleast you'll be fit again!" He replied. Gunjan laughed at her husband's care!

In no time they were at the doctor's. She checked Gunjan once again. She didnt say anything. Her eyes narrowed as she studied her reports. Samrat and Gunjan were both apprehensive. They waited patiently for the doctor to finish. She kept her files aside and said, "Her reports are almost normal, but.." she paused did something on her laptop and continued, "Just remember one thing, whoever the doctor may be, he shouldn't try for normal delivery.. he has to perform a Caesarean Section." She announced. Samrat was pretty worried, "Doctor is there some danger?" he asked. Gunjan was very scared too. It was her 8^th Month and now?! "Look, Gunjan is very weak at the moment, her child is very strong inside her. A normal delivery can be very dangerous to her health. I wouldn't want to say it, but she may become paralytic or even.. But Caesarean is safe." She said assuring the two. Gunjan relaxed in her chair while Samrat became sceptical "Doctor, are you sure Caesarean is safe? We dont want the baby if there is any danger to Gunjan!" he said confidently. Gunjan was about to rebel when the doctor said "You need not worry. You should be happy we found this out in time. In a planned Caesarean you can always be prepared with the equipment and its completely safe. Just make sure she eats properly and there is no stress at all." "I will make sure of that. Thank You doctor." He said helping Gunjan up and taking her out of the room. Both of them were silent on there way back to the car. Samrat just kept thinking about what the doctor said. Gunjan placed her hand on his shoulder. "Its all going to be fine.." she said. "As long as you are here, I will be fine Samrat.." she said. Samrat slowly smiled at her and said, "I am not going to let anything happen to youu.." "So we are still going for dinner right?" she asked cheekily. Samrat had almost forgotten about that, he drove towards Gunjan's favourite restaurant.

At the restaurant, he helped Gunjan sit down and then took a seat himself. He was very disturbed with what the doctor had said. He was shaken up by her words. He didn't want to scare Gunjan but he couldn't stop worrying. Gunjan placed a hand on her husband's hand. "Samrat.." she said with an understanding face. She knew how worried he got about her health. "You never take care about yourself! I always tell you to eat properly, you never listen! See the result?" he scolded her for the first time in their two years of marriage. Gunjan had never seen Samrat so tensed. Not even before the tender. "Samrat.. its fine. The doctor just said that I shouldn't even try for a normal delivery! Thats it. You need to stop getting so worried." It wasn't helping. Samrat's face was still serious and he couldn't swallow the whole thing. He was nothing without Gunjan.. and He couldn't risk her life, not even for the baby.. Gunjan felt like changing the subject! "Samrat, do you remember the day when I told you that I was pregnant?" she said. Samrat nodded and then a small smile formed on his face.

It was one of those days when he came at 9. Gunjan was jumping around the whole house that day. She had told Bui and even bui had been overjoyed with the good news of becoming a grandmother. Gunjan wanted to tell Mamiji also but she thought maybe Samrat would want to tell her himself. On hearing the door bell at quarter to nine Gunjan jumped up from the sofa and ran to the door. She opened the door and flung herself onto his arms. Samrat was totally taken aback and dropped his suitcase on the floor. "Samrat I am soo happy today!" she shrieked. "Ohkaay.. will you tell me what happened?" he asked totally befuddled. She broke the hug and let him come in first. He kept staring at her so that she would tell him. "I went to the doctor today!" she said. "WHAT? You're ok right?" he said. "Ofcourse I am. I went to collect my reports." She said. But before she could continue, "When did you get yourself checked? And why? Gunjan are you hiding something? Were you ill?" he asked suspiciously. "Shush! Listen to me!" she said making Samrat sit down on their bed. "I was having slight headaches and dizziness and had missed my period last month so I went for a check up.." she said expecting him to guess it, but this was Mr.Shergill, if it had been something about business or economics he would have surely understood. "So? What did the reports say?" he asked. "Can't you guess even after so many hints?" she asked unbelievably.. "Gunjan, I am not a doctor!" he said shaking his head. "Uff, Samrat. I am pregnant!" Gunjan exclaimed practically jumping up from bed. "WHAAAT?" he shrieked as he got up behind her. Gunjan was surprised at his reaction. Was he upset? Did he not want the child? All the negative thoughts had started to enter her mind "Aren't you happy?" she asked as he stood speechless. "You.. you.. are pregnant? That means.. I.. I am.. going.. to .. be '"A Father!" Gunjan completed the sentence for him! Instead of saying anything Samrat had just lifted Gunjan in his arms and spun her round like innumerable times. Gunjan had to literally plead him to stop because she was feeling dizzy again! Samrat had been so elated. But instead of expressing his happiness he just had a continuous smile on his face which didn't die out for sometime. Later while having dinner he made sure Gunjan ate properly and took extra care that she didnt work too much. That night Samrat had thanked Gunjan for the best gift he could have ever got. Gunjan and Samrat were both very ecstatic. Samrat had even asked Gunjan whether it would hurt her too much? Gunjan had laughed and then shook her head. "It is very painful I have heard.." "Uff. Samrat relax, every woman has to go through this.. and a little pain for our child wouldn't hurt!" she said still as happy as she was. But Samrat's face had suddenly lost its smile, "But why does it have to hurt.. Listen, you don't have to now.. we could still wait for a few years!" he said in a serious tone. "SAMRAT! Just an hour ago you were so happy!" Gunjan said. "I am still happy, but not at the cost of seeing you hurt!" he had said. Gunjan had taken sometime to make Samrat understand what a heavenly feeling it was for her and that any pain would be lesser than the happiness later.

"Even then you were so worried for me!" she said. "And I was right. See.. all these complications!" he said trying to make her understand. "Samrat, relax, please. You're there with me na? And you'll be there when I will deliver our child, so you will make sure I am fine, right?" she said smiling. Before Samrat could answer the waiter got their food. "Ofcourse I will.." he muttered as Gunjan started to attack the food. Samrat sat there looking at her eat. He was scared, truly, he didnt think it was worth all this trouble. And the thought of losing Gunjan made him shudder everytime. "Oh Samrat, I forgot to tell you!" she said. "Now what?" he asked. "I have to go to Calcutta next week." That was all. Samrat was bewildered. "Have you lost it? The doctor just said how weak you were and now you want to go to Calcutta? FORGET IT! I am not letting you out of my sight for a second now!" he practically declared. Gunjan was taken aback at his reaction. "So you won't go to office?" she asked. She knew what the answer would be but still.. "Umm.. for a little time. But Calcutta is far away.. You can't go!" he said. "And that's final." He retorted before Gunjan could say another word. Gunjan tried to make him understand but he didnt hear a word she said. "I will talk to Bui and tell her your condition! I am sure she wouldn't want you to come after all this!" he said. "No. Please. Bui will get very worried and won't be able to control her fear and then I would have two completely paranoid people scaring me more and more." She said. "Gunjan, why do you want to go?" he asked feebly. "Samrat I havent been to Calcutta since 2 years now. Come on. And its some tradition that the first child is supposed to be born at the mother's house." She said. "that's what Bui told me." "I am sorry. You are not going anywhere." He said. "I have to go.." she argued. "I can't stay here when I know you're not well. You know me na!" he said trying hard to make her stay. "So come with me!" she stated. "Gunjan.. I can't. And you know that! I have too much work and I am alone to handle everything!" he said. "And who said you were going. You are weak and you need rest. I got you for dinner, but that's about it." He said ending the conversation at that point.
