Ekta mein anekta

Aao bachchon, aaj tumhein ek kahani sunati hoon main. Ektaji ki kahani sunoge?
Kai saal pehle ki yeh baat hai, bhayanak-andheri si raaton mein, jab nine bajte the, saas-bahus ka daily clash hota tha. Kabhi saas win karti thi, toh kabhi bahu. But because these were ghar-ghar ki kahanis, they were loved by every ghar and gharwali.
This made Ektaji very powerful, proud and superstitious. All her serials began with K, and were all about S: aas, sasural, suhag, sanskar... They were super-duper hits, till of course they were not.
Ektaji went down and out, and there she figured the virtues of anekta and stared making films, one dirty picture after another. And then, sometime last year, Ektaji returned to TV.
Ektaji arrived without a bang. Her shows had some of the best telly stars from Balaji, but they were small and sweet. Bade Achche Lagte Hain, with Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar, was different, special: Middle aged singletons pushed into a shaadi because of their parivars. Ram Kapoor was rich, spoilt and lonely; Priya was regular, warm and lonely.
We could see they were a perfect match, but they couldn't. So they fought, called their shaadi a compromise and made us all very sad. And the TRPs were, well, alright.
But during her sabbatical, Ektaji had discovered success ka new mantra — sex. And since it worked well in cinema, she was sure TV viewers would like a sample. So she sent Ram and Priya on a honeymoon and soon they realised they were in love. And then Ektaji gave them, and us, a much delayed suhaag raat. Aur wah, what a suhaag raat it was! One of a kind.
There was caressing, touching, even a lip-lock. And not everything was done by Ram. Priya took the initiative too, going boldly where no woman on telly has been before — she locked the bedroom door. There was enough smouldering stuff to ensure that all uncles and aunties had a good night. TRPs went wild too. Ektaji is truly back. But I tell you, abhi toh yeh angyadi hai, aage aur ladai hai.
