You get one life so enjoy it to the fullest. Many of us believe this line and hence want to enjoy every bit of what life has to offer. We try and achieve it through whatever means we have. We aspire to have the life we can probably dream of. Television shows are no different. They are an extension of our dreams and desires. Celebrating life has become the motto of our Television channels.

Star Plus believes in showing larger than life scenes and magnifies them gloriously on the screen, where as Life Ok says "Jo Pass Hai Woh Khaas Hai".They believe in showing simplicity of life and being content with that. However with the means to increase ones expansion and give the viewers a dream, here is what we feel is the current trend.

To shoot shows at locations that captures the heart of the audience has become the much wanted thing today. It has become vital as it adds to the authenticity of the story line. Of course only first few episodes are shot in the new city for the audience to get the feel of it. For instance Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon captures the beauty and simplicity of Lucknow as well as the hustle bustle of Delhi life. Another show that adds to this quotient is Ek hazaron Mein Mere Behna Hain, which has Rishikesh and Chandigarh as its serene background. Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha evolves from Indore depicting the simple middle class life of two families in a neighbourhood. The latest show in this wagon is Punar Vivaah which is also set in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Sony TV 's Bade Acche Lagte Hai however walks away with the cake for taking its story all the way to Australia where they shot the honeymoon sequence between the leads Ram and Priya over a period of ten days.

All these shows and many more have chosen a different city in India as its background, bringing out the tradition and culture of those surroundings. We get to hear different dialects and see traditional costumes worn on different occasions highlighting that particular event. This is definitely a fresh change from the fixed sets we get accustomed to, as it creates new ambiance for the story and gives a more real feel to the characters. Shows like Dekha Ek Khaab, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Devon Ke Dev Mahadev are known for their huge lavish sets where the characters are shown living in Palacial Homes. Amrit Manthan on Life OK is the latest to join the list. Dealing with false prestige outlining the 'aan, baan and shaan' of the Raj mahal. This show indirectly sends the message of accepting one's true self and not going after what one doesn't have.

Infact what attracts the attention of the audience is also the potrayal of modern homes, plush interiors, women adoring designer saree's and jewelleries, expensive sports cars and let's not forget the use of private chopper in the pilot episode of IPKKND! Gone are the days when all these things were seen only on Silver Screen. Today you can enjoy all that from 7 in the evening to 11 at night on your own Television Screen.

Now amidst all these are also shows like Pavitra Rishta, Hitler Didi, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge ,Tum Dena Saath Mera which are simple, substance oriented and grounded. They show the audiences the other side of the coin. These shows focus more on problems that regular people can relate to rather than what they dont have!

High budgeted shows may fulfill the dreams of a common man by giving them a dream world but on the same page we must value the realism life has to offer too. Our TV tales today bring us a right blend of both. Having said all of this, when a show has no strong storyline to compliment its set up, the audience are quick to reject the same. Hence the makers should always ensure there is a fine balance between the two.
