Part 6
After finishing their lunch, Khushi was given a surprise by her Jiji and Lavanya. They both gifted her a two-wheeler vehicle, which Khushi fell in love with, the moment she set her eyes on it! It was the gift for securing an internship, and hopefully a job at AR.
It was fiery red in color. Red, her favorite color and which she thought suited her the most. As she rode with Payal sitting behind her, she felt the same elation take over her, like the first time she had ever rode a bike.
Lavanya declined to sit behind, as it would spoil her hairstyle. But Khushi was to hear none of it as she plonked a helmet on a huffing Lavanya and forced her to sit on the pillion seat.
Arnav, who had gone to Shantivan to have his lunch, was waiting for the traffic signal to turn green when he spotted Khushi speeding through the street with a mollified Lavanya sitting behind her. And when some guy on a bike was about to overtake her, the annoyed look that Khushi shot his way was priceless, making Arnav chuckle. The poor guy slowed down, letting Khushi go forward. And Khushi smiled smugly, as she drove towards AR.
Arnav heard honking behind him, and realized that the signal had turned green and he drove towards AR too.
---ooo---
That evening, in the parking area of AR,Arnav kicked the flat tyre of his SUV, and cursed Akash for skipping office the same day. Or else he could have at least gone home with him. He was about to call Akash and ask him to send another car, when he heard his name being called out from behind him.
Khushi stopped her vehicle when she saw an angry Arnav, and took the support of her legs as she inquired what was wrong. Arnav explained that he had a flat tyre. Khushi shrugged and said, "So? Change the tyre." Arnav looked away embarrassedly, not willing to let her know that he didn't know how to do it. But Khushi's keen eyes didn't miss his reaction, and she bit the insides of her cheeks and pursed her lips to stop herself from laughing.
"Want to come with me?" Khushi asked, and noticed Arnav glance at her vehicle and then doubtfully at her. "I won't ditch you somewhere! Scout's honor!" Khushi replied, tongue in cheek. Arnav rolled his eyes, but asked, "Can I ride it?"
"No." came Khushi's prompt reply, and Arnav sighed and dragged himself to sit behind her.
"Why didn't you let me drive?" Arnav asked as they stopped at the signal. "Because I didn't want you to." Khushi said in a matter-of-fact voice. "I see..." Arnav nodded his head before he noticed the aged traffic cop by the circle. "Sir!!" He shouted, catching the attention of the cop.
"What are you doing?! I don't have the driving license yet!!" Khushi turned back to look at Arnav and muttered through gritted teeth.
"I know." Arnav grinned cunningly at her, and turned to the cop, who had come to stand near them.
Arnav soon realized that the cop couldn't recognize him as ASR, the business tycoon. So he started explaining that Khushi didn't have a license yet, but she still insisted on riding the vehicle herself amidst the heavy traffic of Delhi. The cop asked for the DL, and Khushi bowed her head, blushing with embarrassment, wishing the earth would open up, and bury her and her vehicle safely within her. Arnav replied to the cop that she didn't have one.
And the cop asked if Arnav had his DL, which he promptly showed after removing it from his wallet. "Madam, let your husband drive." The old cop sternly said, and Khushi was so annoyed with Arnav at the moment, that her mind didn't even register the fact that she had been called Arnav's wife. She removed herself off the vehicle indignantly and Arnav sat on it, and wore his helmet. He then turned to the cop and thanked him. The cop left, shaking his head and muttering something about "aaj kal ke bachchein..."
Khushi hit his shoulder as soon as the cop left, and Arnav didn't even react to her attack, as he started driving, laughing o himself. In fact he didn't remember trying so hard to stop himself from laughing, ever. Khushi sat with her arms folded, her lower lip jutting out in a pout.
And when they reached Shantivan, and she still didn't show any sign of getting down, Arnav teased, "Uthrogi ki nahi, Mrs. Arnav Singh Raizada?"
"What??!! How. . . . You. . . . I hate you!!" Khushi sputtered as she got down. "No, wait!! I absolutely loathe you!!" She said, looking in Arnav's eyes.
Arnav knew she was saying all that in the heat of the moment. But somehow he didn't like what she was saying. His eyebrows pulled together in anger, as he got off the vehicle himself, and pulled down the side stand, and muttered, "Yeah! I saw that when you didn't object when the cop called me your husband!"
He started walking towards the door, and wondered if she would come behind him, or leave in anger, when he felt her running towards him. "You flatter yourself too much, Arnav! Did you think that I fancied myself being your wife??!! Dream on!" Khushi yelled at him, as she almost ran next to him, to match his long strides.
They had entered the mansion now, and didn't even care to look at Anjali and Shyam lazing in the living room. Arnav turned to her and feigned fear, as he said, "I wouldn't even dare to think on those lines!!"
"Oooh!! How I hate you!!!" Khushi murmured, as she glared at him.
"And how I love you for doing that!" Arnav murmured too and strode up the stairs, not bothering to greet his Di and Jiju.
Khushi huffed and puffed and was about to leave when she heard Anjali call her out.
Though Khushi was in a very sour mood, she couldn't be rude to Anjali. And she sighed once before joining Anjali.
They both strolled towards the kitchen, Khushi explaining how happy she was with the gift her Jiji and Lavanya had bought for her. And when Anjali asked what the fight was about, Khushi brushed it off saying it was nothing, not really wanting to share the "HUSBAND" incident with her.
Anjali put a cup of tea and few snacks on a tray, and dramatically grunted as if she was in pain, as she limped her way out. "Di?! Are you in pain? Is your leg hurting?" Khushi asked as they neared the living room. Shyam's gaze shot up to his wife when he heard Khushi exclaiming about leg and pain. But he easily made out that his wife was hamming it up. So he turned his attention back to the TV screen, smiling as he thought of his draamebaaz wife.
"A little bit. . . . Aagh!!" Anjali sat down on one of the chair, carefully balancing the tray on her. "Di!!" Khushi came to her and glanced at Shyam, sitting without even giving a second glance to his wife. "Shyamji?" Khushi called him and looked at him expectantly. Shyam stared at Khushi and wondered why she had called him, and realized that his wife was allegedly in pain. So he started doing his act as a dutiful, loving husband, as he admonished his wife, "Kya Anjali!! You always tire yourself out!! Khushiji, can you take all this and hand it to my saale sahab?"
As much as Khushi wanted to refuse, she couldn't. So she put her own glass on the tray and took it with her, and soon knocked at Arnav's door. When there was no answer, she balanced the tray carefully, as she opened the door a crack and pushed it open with her foot. The room was empty, and Khushi let out a sigh of relief as she went in and put the tray down.
A prickling sensation at the nape of her neck, made her realize that the room wasn't empty after all. She turned to come face to face with an amused Arnav. "Wanted to scare me or something?" Khushi asked, feeling smug that she hadn't given that comfort for him. "Not at all! I was just standing in my room!" Arnav said pointedly.
Khushi frowned and was about to leave, when Arnav said, "Waise, I've decided what gift I want."
Khushi turned around, surprised at the sudden change of topic. "What?" She asked curiously, and Arnav stepped towards her. His gaze had something which made her feel self-conscious and move backward. And for each step that Arnav took towards her, she had moved a step backward until she felt the French windows behind her. She turned her head to look at it and by the time she had turned to him, Arnav was in front of her, making her heart beat erratically.
"Wh. . . . . What do you want?" Khushi whispered, her eyes fixated on his oh so kissable lips.
There was a silence for God knew how many minutes, as Khushi's gaze didn't falter, and Arnav's smirk grew.
"I actually had something else on my mind, but I like where your thoughts are heading to." Arnav said in his husky voice, as he smirked at Khushi.
Khushi's eyes snapped open at his comment, and she pushed him away and was about to leave when he called her to take her tea, which she had kept it along with his. She took it and turned to leave, when she remembered him and his gift.
"You didn't tell me what gift you wanted. . . ." Khushi looked at him with expectant eyes.
Arnav looked at the innocent, doe-shaped, wide, brown eyes of hers and decided that it would probably scare her if he told her what he really wanted. Knowing the fact that she liked being dominated, had given him too many ideas which would definitely make her run away from him, and never look at him straight in the eye. Ever again.
He just looked at her for a second before he said, "I was just kidding. I haven't thought of anything. . . . Yet."
Khushi nodded once before she said, "Let me know once you have..." And left the room without a second glance at him.
