I wasn't really sure about this part. . . 😒
Oh, well!! 😳 😃
Part 5:
Arnav screeched his car to a stop, jolting both Arnav and Khushi forward, stopped by the confines of the seat belt. "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!" shouted a group of young people as they drove in an open hooded jeep. "What the!!" Arnav started when he felt Khushi's hand on his arm. "Let them be!!" Khushi said as she rubbed her chest with her other hand, where the seat belt had pressed hard.
Arnav turned to look at her having a small smile on her lips, as she rubbed her chest and stare at the jeep that was moving away. "Are you alright?" Arnav asked, as he frowned.
"Huh??" Khushi turned to look at Arnav, spotted her hand on his arm and removed it immediately and nodded her head. Arnav started driving again, and Khushi remembered her gift and opened the box to look at the earrings again. "Oh god! I didn't gift you anything!" Khushi exclaimed.
"What gift?!" Arnav asked, knowing fully well what she meant. Khushi clucked her tongue impatiently before saying, "You know??! The Valentine's day gift!!" Arnav smirked as he asked, "So you were my Valentine, eh??"
"What?! Psht!! No!! Hmph!! You WISH!!" Khushi sputtered, embarrassed at Arnav's question. "Oh really?! Then exactly why DID you accept my gift?!" he asked, a smug smirk adorning his face. "Do you want me you return it to you, Arnav??" Khushi asked in a grave tone. It was Arnav's turn to sputter as if he had been insulted, "What!? NO!!"
"So you better stop sounding so smug about it, then" Khushi said, efficiently removing any traces of that smirk off his face. 'She's bad for my ego!' Arnav thought as he swerved the car to the street leading to Shantivan. Khushi thanked him and was getting out of the car, when he said, "You're right, though. I did give you a present, and you gave me none in return."
Khushi turned to him, seeming thoughtful for a second before she asked,"Okaaay. . . What would you like?" Arnav looked at her, his eyes suddenly gaining a devilish glint as he said, "Later. I'll ask you what I like when I like..." Khushi stared at him suspiciously with narrowed eyes, before shrugging and said, "Alright..."
As she got out of the car and sashayed her bum in the air, trying not trip or fall from her stilettoes, Arnav's eyes rested on her posterior too, as he smiled lopsidedly. When Khushi was out of his line vision, he sighed and shook his head. "Sweetbottom..." He murmured to himself and chuckled as he started his car and entered Shantivan.
---ooo---
A truce had been on, unknown to either of them. Khushi, in her usual perceptive manner had learnt a lot about Arnav in the past few days. The next day, Arnav suffered from a bad head ache, but had to be there for a meeting with an important client. As he grumbled his way to work, he saw Khushi's desk was unoccupied, and frowned as he climbed stairs, and entered his cabin. Khushi was arranging the designs she had prepared the last night, and turned to see him stomp into his chamber.
"What are you doing?" he asked without looking at her and took his seat. "I've brought the designs." He thought Khushi's voice was more nasal today, but didn't bother to ask. And when she sniffed, he said, "You have a cold." Khushi looked at him in surprise, and sniffed once again, telling "Yeah... A slight one..."
Arnav looked up now. "Your nose is RED." he said warily. "You have a head ache too..." Khushi accused and Arnav looked at her with wide eyes.He even wondered if he had complained out loud, and when he voiced his doubt, Khushi lowered her gaze, blushing profusely, as she muttered, "You frown when you have a head ache... I mean, you always frown.. But you frown extra hard when you have a head ache.. So..." she got up and came to stand next to him, and removed the top drawer, extracting an aspirin out of it. She also got a glass of water and put it on the table. Arnav didn't know how he was supposed to respond.
He had been the one who had been taking care of every one of his family members, and here he was, unable to give a proper reaction to a humane gesture.
Thankfully though, Khushi left without a second glance, removing any chance of an awkward conversation from Arnav.
---ooo---
Khushi was going through a few patterned fabrics, which she could use for her designing, sniffing occasionally due to cold, when Aman came over and handed her a cup of hot chocolate and a thick cardigan. "Oh.. Thanks a lot! You dunno how much I've been wanting that!" Aman smiled as he replied, "No need to thank me."
Khushi grinned wryly and asked, "Whom else should I thank?! The high and mighty ASR?!" before she took a sip of her hot chocolate. "Actually.. Yes.. He was the one who told me to give these to you.." Khushi gulped down a swig in surprise, forgetting how hot it was, and searched Aman's face for any hint of humor. When she didn't find any, and Aman took his leave, Khushi blinked few times. Not knowing how she was supposed to react.
Surely she knew that Arnav did have a caring side to him, which he usually kept well hidden from plain view. But too much caring from him was almost disconcerting. She took out her phone and sent Payal a text.
"Jiji! Its an emergency! Lunch at the bistro opposite AR! Come!"
She somehow managed to tug a very busy Lavanya to the bistro as well. When all the three girls were seated comfortably, Khushi started explaining everything. Right from the earrings that he had gifted, to today's hot chocolate incident.
"So what exactly is the problem??" Payal asked, failing to see anything which could be called problematic.
"Can't you see?! He has started. . . . . . DOING things!!"
Lavanya shrugged as she said nonchalantly, "So? He gifted you earrings. What's the big deal?!"
"The boor! His ears should be boxed for DOING it!!" Payal said, her voice dripping with acid. Lavanya and Khushi gaped at her in confusion. They hadn't known Payal could be even "S" of sarcastic. "Jiji? What's the matter??" Khushi asked, her eyes full of concern.
Payal sighed before saying, "I may have cancelled a lunch date with Akash Singh Raizada so that I could meet you..." Payal explained hesitantly, her cheeks growing pink as a slight blush spread over her face. "Oh!!" was Lavanya's genius reply, and Khushi asked, "Is that how you disappeared during the Valentine's day party?!" Payal lifted her shoulders slowly and scrunched her nose as she murmured a 'Maybe..'
'Oh my god!! Oh my GOD!! OH MY GOD!!! I wanted to hook up one of the Gupta sisters with a Raizada. And here these Gupta sisters are!! Hooking up with both Raizada men!! I should tell this to Anjali!! She'd be SO HAPPY!!!'
Payal who had started expplaining about Akash, saw that Lavanya was lost somewhere. "Lav???" She asked, waving her hand in front of Lavanya's face, and Lavanya grinned happily at her friends, as if they both had given her the biggest gift of her life. Payal looked at Khushi asked, "Do you have any idea why this female is grinning like an idiot??"
Khushi still looked at Lavanya in confusion, as she shook her head and answered, "None whatsoever..."
Lavanya rolled her eyes at the drama queens that her friends were, and looked at her phone, now vibrating to tell her that ASR was calling her. She turned it on, and put it a little closer to where Khushi was sitting, befire she loudly asked Khushi, "So.. Khushi, my friend!! What type of a guy would you like?!"
"Gosh, La! I'm sitting right here! There's no need for you to shout! A guy?? I dunno..." Khushi answered, wondering if she really had any preferences at all. "Oh, come on!! Would you like a cute, boy-ish guy? Or dark, handsome, and brooding type?? You know? The macho-man kind??!!"
Khushi's eyebrows pulled down in concentration, as she thought about it and replied, "Umm... No cute guys for me.. I'd go with your second option.." Lavanya was just about started with her questions as she asked her a new one, "Aren't you afraid that the macho-man type would dominate you all the time??"
Khushi raised her eyebrows in surprise, not understanding where all these questions were coming from as she said, "I actually don't mind a little arrogance. I mean, I'd not want a guy who acts according to my whims!! And as for dominance? If that guy loved you, I highly doubt he'd ever misuse you by dominating you all the time..."
A smile had come over Arnav's face, as he listened to the conversation. He removed his phone off his ear, suddenly feeling a twinge of guilt for eavesdropping. He put it back, intent on talking to Lavanya, when he heard Lavanya sigh dramatically on the other end, before she said, "If only any macho-man was listening to Khushi Kumari Gupta now. . . . . ."
Arnav rolled his eyes, as he cut the call.
So Khushi Kumari Gupta. . . . . You don't mind being dominated, eh?? Arnav thought, and where thoughts were headed, made him scowl at himself. Don't behave like a virgin teenager!! He scoffed at himself and tried to get back to work. . . . . . . . . . . .
