This weekend for sure! :)
Chapter 21:
"Maan? I just wanted to tell you that I've found a suitable nurse for Dadi. I'll email her details to you right now, and you can make a decision" Armaan told Maan over the phone.
"I trust your decision Armaan," Maan smiled, "Just tell her to meet me at the house tomorrow at 9 AM sharp? And I'll discuss everything else with her."
"Maan, are you sure you don't really want to interview her, do a background check, find out anything about her?" Geet questioned hesitantly as Maan delivered the news over dinner. But he simply waved his hand dismissively, immediately rejecting the idea, "She's a nurse at a hospital, and Armaan has found her, so she must do her job well Geet. I don't even understand why we should do a background check on her. As long as she takes care of Dadi, everything will be fine."
Geet still felt really queasy about the idea, the idea of not looking into someone's details not sitting well with her. "Maan, are you really sure?" she asked once again.
Maan looked over his wife, startled upon seeing the uneasy expression on her face. He slowly reached over and covered her hand his with his own, "Geet? Is there a problem? Don't you trust Armaan?"
Geet shook her head, protesting immediately, "Of course I do! He's one of your best friends Maan, and if you are confident in his decision, well, then I am too" she smiled, attempting to look cheerful.
"Geet, you don't have to lie to me you know. I want you to be ok with hiring the nurse as well, considering it's going to be you and Dadi around her the most, while I'm off at work. So if it makes you more comfortable, me looking at her resume and her references, then I'll definitely ask to see them tomorrow. Ok?"
Geet visibly relaxed, truly this time, as she let out a huge breath slowly, her eyes actually twinkling this time as she returned back to her normal self. She reached over the table, picking up the bowl of halwa and scooping out a spoonful to put into Maan's plate. "Time for some dessert Maan!"
Maan immediately covered his plate with his hands, "No way Geet! I'm not eating any halwa that you made! Remember the morning after our wedding? And that spicy halwa that I was made to suffer through?" He had this absolutely terrified look on his face that sent Geet into fits of laughter.
"Hey, give me credit my dear patidev. That was sheer genius and you know it!" she smirked at him, daring him to deny her words. "We were in the middle of war, remember? Sworn enemies?" she laughed.
"And we aren't anymore, now are we Geet?" came the soft response, barely more than a whisper, as he reached over once again to hold her hand, softly stroking her palm with his thumb, a slow smile forming on his face. Geet's eyes widened as realization slowly set in, What was Maan saying? What did he mean by that?
Before either of them could say anything, the ringing of Maan's phone burst their moment, as Maan hurriedly left the table and went into the study to take his "important phone call", but not without throwing one last glance at his stunned wife before he left the room.

Geet stood in the kitchen, rinsing out the dishes and putting them in the dishwasher. She had dismissed Ramu Kaka earlier when he had offered to do the dishes, telling him to go take a break. But she knew that the only reason she was saying this was because she needed a second to sort out her thoughts, alone.
Maan's words at dinner kept floating in and out of her mind. What could he have possibly meant? That he actually likes her? Wants to actually be husband and wife? Of course not! This was the Maan Singh Khurana, for heaven's sake. He could probably get any woman he wanted, with those ruggedly handsome looks, that booming business empire, and well, just by being himself! Why would he ever want her? A woman carrying his brother's child, from the oh so out there place of Hoshiarpur, not rich, not fancy, but plain and drab.
Or maybe that wasn't what he meant at all? Another thought popped into her mind, as she paused suddenly.
Maybe all he meant when he asked her that was to say that they were friends now, not the enemies they were before.
But for some reason she didn't like that either.
"Our relationships has changed, now hasn't it? He's not so bad anymore. In fact, he's actually kind of nice." Really Geet? Only nice? "Maybe not. He's more than nice. Ever since the honeymoon began he's been absolutely wonderful. Taking care of me, taking care of the baby. He's not so much of a Mr. Khadoos, is he? Sigh, he really isn't. I actually like man. Who would have ever thought? I actually like my husband."
And a sweet smile appeared that just seemed permanently glued to her face all night.

Next Morning
"Geet! Can you get the door please? It's probably that nurse that Armaan recommended. Just direct her to the study for me?" Maan called out to his wife when he heard the doorbell ringing.
Geet muttered to herself, wiping her hands on her dress as she stepped out of the kitchen and opened the front door. "Yes, may I help you?" Geet questioned softly.
"I'm here to see your boss, Mr. Khurana. Can you please tell him that Ms. Rathore here?" the woman responded coldly, looking Geet up and down in one swift glance before turning away, effectively dismissing her. Geet quirked an eyebrow up, Her boss? Pssht. Yeah right. But she decided to play along, just to see what Maan would say.
And he didn't disappoint.
Geet politely knocked on the door before entering, "Sir, Ms. Rathore is here to see you" Geet called out. Maan threw a confused look at her, about to open his mouth to question her words, when the very same Ms. Rathore appeared in front of him. She immediately flashed him a bright smile, holding out her hand, "Naintara Rathore, Mr. Khurana. I'm here on Dr. Mallik's recommendation for the position of a private nurse."
Maan took her hand, nodding stiffly, before reaching over to pull Geet by his side, his hand firmly gripping her waist. Geet turned to him, bewildered, but Maan wasn't looking at her. "Maan Singh Khurana, Ms. Rathore. And this is my wife, Geet. Geet Singh Khurana" he smiled sternly.
Naintara gasped, her hands flying to cover her mouth as she stared at Geet, "Oh I'm so sorry Mrs. Khurana. I really didn't know. I thought you were the hired help. Please do forgive me" she smiled sweetly, apologetically.
"No problem at all Ms. Rathore. Don't worry about it."
"Now, if that's settled, shall we take a seat and look at your resume and references Ms. Rathore?"
Forty minutes later, after intense questioning on Maan's part, Naintara Rathore was offered the job of being Dadi's private nurse until she fully recovered. A live-in position of course, where she would stay in the Khurana Mansion, until Dadi was back to normal.
"And don't worry at all about Mrs. Khurana either Mr. Khurana, I'll take good care of her whenever necessary as well" she continued happily, after being assured of her position.
Maan and Geet threw her a confused look, "Look after Geet? Why would you need to do that?!"
Naintara let out a loud laugh, "Because she's pregnant Mr. Khurana! You're about to become a father!" Seeing Maan's questioning glance at Geet, she followed up with another question, "Or hasn't she even told you that you're about to become a father?" she suggested slyly.
Maan immediately waved off her question, "Of course not Ms. Rathore. I was the first person Geet came to with the news of the pregnancy" he said softly, throwing a loving glance at his wife before turning back. "I was simply wondering how you came to find out that Geet was pregnant. We haven't actually told very many people yet."
Naintara scoffed, "I'm a nurse Mr. Khurana, and a damn good one at that. I can tell if someone is pregnant simply by looking at them. "
And Maan and Geet looked at each other, before nodding, accepting her words silently. Who were they to argue wiith someone who claimed this was part of her job?
"Well then Ms. Rathore, we're looking forward to working with you. I'll see you here tomorrow afternoon then? And we can then go to bring Dadi back from the hospital and you can begin."
"It'll be my pleasure" Naintara Rathore smiled, looking first at Maan Singh Khurana and then Geet, watching them, before turning around and leaving.
**
Some people are heard before they're seen, Maan thought to himself as he heard his wife yelling at someone later that afternoon. He carefully knocked on the bedroom door, but not hearing her say anything, opened it, only to find her sitting cross legged on the middle of the floor, yelling at someone on the phone. Well, it sounded like she was yelling.
"Bauji! You can't come now!" Geet was pleaded with her dad. "Maan's Dadi was in the hospital and is just coming home. We need to help her get adjusted before you all descend on the house!" She sighed as she heard her dad refute this, Why couldn't they understand? In fact, she hadn't even noticed Maan's presence in the room, so busy was she in attempting to convince her dad not to come visit them.
And Maan was shocked at her words, quickly rushing over to grab the phone from her hand, "Namaste Bauji, main Maan hoon. Don't pay attention to what Geet was saying! You can definitely come over anytime to see your daughter. Anytime at all."
Geet groaned, burying her head in her hands, as she heard Maan's words. Did the idiot know what he was getting himself into? The madness of the Handa family would have him running for the hills! As soon as he hung up the phone, he turned to his wife, "Geet, they said they would come here tomorrow and spend the entire day with us. I asked them to stay longer, but they refused. You should convince them to stay Geet."
Geet shook her head, "Nope Maan. Don't do it, and I won't either. This is a decision you will regret if they ever end up actually taking you up on it. My family is the definition of insanity and when they all descend upon you, you're just done for."
"Geet!" Maan began to admonish his wife, "You should never say anything like that about your own family! They may annoy you at times, but they're still your family!"
"They're MY family, that's why I'm telling you this so confidently Maan!" Geet retorted back, exasperation building as she realized her husband just wouldn't listen to her.
"Oh come on, you haven't even seen any of them since we've gotten married. And I think it's time I meet my wife's family as well!"
"But Maan'."
"Sigh. Fine Geet. We'll put off Dadi's coming for two more days, until after your family leaves. Is that better?"
Geet shook her head solemnly, "I think what would be better would be them not coming at all" she sighed.
Maan was just puzzled. Why was Geet so adamantly against the Handas visiting them? "Geet, I've dealt with your absolute craziness the past few days. I'm sure your family's not any worse"
She frowned, watching him angrily before she reached out to pick up a pillow from the bed and smack it on him!
"Ow!"
"Well! You deserve that Mister, for calling me crazy. How dare you?!"
He quickly tried to shield himself, but this was Geet Singh Khurana that he was dealing with! She kept attacking him, repeatedly bashing him with that pillow, and the further he tried to move back, she kept following.
Until he hit a wall, stopping him, trapping him, and he knew he had no other option.
He grabbed her wrists, holding them so tightly, that she yelped out in pain, and before she knew it, she was turned around so it was her against the back of the wall, pressed into the wall with Maan standing barely 6 inches away.
She stared at him, eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights, "Ma..Maan?" she called out softly.
But he wasn't paying attention.
Her chewing her lips had completely distracted him, her lips seemed to calling to him, those lush lips, full, beckoning for a kiss. Her breath caught in her throat as she realized, her heart racing as she saw him slowly leaning in towards her, his lips first grazing her own, before he captured them for a more powerful kiss. Geet moaned as he bit her lips, opening her mouth to let him in, and completely unaware, she dropped the pillow, drawing her arms around his neck, pulling her husband even closer. Desire burned through him, the need to feel her completely against him, her skin against his own, driving all rational thought away.
Her hands slowly came down, reaching to unbutton his shirt, while Maan pulled away from her lips, his attention now focused elsewhere, slowly pulling her dupatta aside to lick the bare skin on her neck before nipping at it slightly, intent on making his mark on her, marking her as his own.
"Maan?" she moaned huskily, lost in his touch, as she ran her hands along his bare chest.
"Oh God Geet you're so beautiful" he rasped, his hands fumbling with the zip on her salwar.
The ringing of the phone brought them both back to their senses, drawing them to the real world once again, and they pulled away from each other slowly, reluctantly They couldn't meet each other's eyes as Maan hurriedly picked up the phone and walked out of the room, quickly buttoning up his shirt, while Geet ran into the bathroom completely breathless, her face completely flushed as desire still pulsated through her veins.
She shut the door quickly and leaned back against it, sliding to the ground as she tried to bring herself back to reality.
What had they been doing? Why'why had she felt that way? Absolutely uncontrollable, completely lost.
This wasn't her at all'..or was it?
