Who knows?? It's one of the mysteries of Bollywood. I do remember shahrukh talking about an incident tho. Apparently when they were shooting KKHH, kajol fell off her bicycle and hit her head. She lost her memory temporarily and couldn't remember anyone (including srk and karan) but kept repeating ajay's name. She must have been head over heels for him!
