And look at fate's nature. Little did she know that Maan was talking to Geet about herself only! Only if she knew that the person he was in love with is none other than herself! She ran up the stairs and into her room and locked herself in the comfort of her room. Everything dark. Only the glimmering light shining on the closed window.
It was then that she cried her heart out. It was better to let the pain flow down in the form of tears rather than hold it back and let it pile up in the corner of her heart.
Minutes later, a beeping sound brought her back from the world of grief and sadness. She looked around with a blurry vision and realized it was her cell. Wiping the fog around her eyes, she ran her hands across the bed to find the phone in the dark. Her hands trembled as she unlocked the cell.
She was in mood to talk to no one. But she knew better than to ignore the person, whoever it was. There was a message from MK. It asked, 'Where are you?'
She completely wiped her tears away, suddenly remembering that she had called MK. To meet him finally. She blamed herself for forgetting. She had been waiting for this from a long time. But the news of Maan loving someone else had shaked her completely. On top, her realization about her feelings towards him added to the misery. It all seemed uncalled for.
The happiest day of her life turned to be the worse so far. She quickly pressed the reply option and sent back, 'On my way.' And turned the lights on.
Dragging herself to the mirror, she saw the mess she was in. none of the eye liner or mascara had smeared but the red burning eyes couldn't go unnoticed by anyone. Even if they weren't close, the swollen eyes and the pale face would give her away. She was hurt. Very much. Yes. But there was no way she would present herself in front of anyone.
She went to the washroom and splashed cold water on her face to feel it against the burning tears flowing down. If not for the message from MK, there would have been a small pond in the room for sure!
Coming out, she wiped her face and fixed herself to look normal while her heart yelled out in pain. Walking out, she gave a brief wave to Pari to let her know she'll be back, as she wasn't in state to speak up. She was sure her voice would tremble and then give herself away if she tried talking to her.
Making a quick exit, she got into the car and drove away to a house. A house that she was borrowing from her friend Meera for the night. She didn't know why, but last night, she had texted MK Meera's house address instead of her own. It had felt right at the moment to her. The reason was still unknown.
Meera opened the door as someone rang the doorbell. She was a well-built man standing on the other side. "Yes?" she asked.
He said, "Hi…I'm MK..?"
Meera understood and said, "Oh yes. Uh, come in. Geet isn't here yet."
"So you're her friend whose birthday it is?" he asked coming in.
Meera stopped and replied, "Is that what she told you?"
"Yea. Why, it isn't?" he asked yet another question.
Meera giggled as she replied, "Oh always playing around. It's not my birthday. It's hers. You can ask her why she lied when she comes." They had reached the living room by now and she gestured him to have a seat.
She turned to go towards the kitchen and asked, "Anything to drink?"
"Just water would be nice." He said gratefully.
Minutes after, Meera came out holding a tray with a glass of water. Both sat there feeling awkward and waiting for Geet to come. This was when he messaged Geet asking her where she was.
But in no time, Maan and Meera had found a few similarities to talk about. After a good half hour, doorbell rang again. Meera said, "That must be her." and got up.
Behind her, Maan's nervousness crept up. He had met hundreds of girls and just the thought of meeting her give him vibes. The feeling of nervousness came to her for the second time in the year. But Geet's words, "Only a foolish girl would say no to you." Came back to him. Again, it reassured him.
He turned to look out the window and glance at the stars for once.

Meera greeted cheerfully, "Geet! Happy birthday!" She took her in a quick hug before saying, "Come in."
Geet smiled back feebly and Meera noticed it. "Hey, you okay?" she asked worried.
"Yeah, fine. Just tired from the day. You know, calls, gifts, people, etc." she replied normally and convinced Meera enough to stop further questions.
She replied, "Well then, I'll leave for my work and you both have fun talking, celebrating, whatever." She added, "Take care." Kissing her forehead like an elder sister and grabbed her coat and was about ready to leave when she felt herself being stopped.
Geet was holding her hand and she replied, "I've missed you," as an answer to Meera's questioning look.
Meera smiled and replied, "Oh honey, I have too. But now's not the time for emotional talks. We'll talk later, okay?" Geet pushed back the emotions and tightened her lips. Nodding, she let go.
Meera hugged her once more, briefly, before going out the door.

Geet took a deep breath as she walked down the hall way. She was a figure standing by the window looking out. She called out, wondering about how he really looks, "MK?"
A soft whisper touched his hears. As melancholy as ever. He turned hearing the words. It was even good to hear the name in person rather than on net. Turning, he received a shock. A surprise.
Same went for her. She saw none other than Maan in front of her. "MK…Maan?" she whispered trying to make sense of it. So her suspicion wasn't wrong at all.
"Geet?" Maan said to himself. Both walked towards each other with a surprised face on. As they neared, all the close events came to them. Everything came out clear. Geet landing in New York the same time when the 'online' friend Geet told Maan that she was coming.
Maan telling online friend Geet about the girl who was taking him wrong. Geet telling MK about Maan who only cared about electronics and not people. All the while, they were talking about the other to each other. They were talking to each other only and never knew.
Now, it didn't feel awkward for Geet to understand why she imagined Maan's face when she thought about MK. It was only because they were the same person. They always had bee. It was just that they had so cleverly hid their pain from the eyes of the world that it came out only through net. And now, one person in the world could see it with their own pair of eyes.
Both replied softly together as they stood in front of each other, only feet's apart, "It all makes sense now!"
Maan…MK! How could I have taken such a long time to realize?" she exclaimed to herself. Her happiness knew no bound knowing that her MK was her Maan. It was inexpressible.
Same went for Maan. Though he always loved his online friend Geet, he was more than happy to know that both Geet were the same person. The one and only.
His love now had a face. A face, ever so beautiful. The moon light lit the beauty even higher. The soft creamy white skin was just perfect. It was even better than how he had imagined Geet to be like.
Both giggled at their silliness for not realizing and then laughed away.
Geet felt content to know that the person he loved was her only. And no one else. Now she also knew what would happen to her if he really did love someone else and not her. The thought about the worst day exited her mind at the second. She could, without doubt, say that this was the best day in her life. And nothing would ever, ever change that.
Little did she know, it was going to get better.

Maan and Geet, now, lay on the car bonnet in the dark, out in the backyard, admiring the stars. They knew each other so well. And now that they had met each other too, it was ever better.
Maan's confession about his love to her came back to Geet. It wasn't as official one as Maan had told Geet that he loved his online friend. Maan knew she would be thinking about that. She blushed thinking about it and asked, "Is there anything you want to tell me?"
He knew what she was interpreting at. He said resting himself on one arm, "Don't you already know?"
"Oh I don't know. You tell me." she replied with attitude.
He shook his head pleasantly and replied, "Yes. But not now. Right now, we need to get back to the party."
He jumped down and pulled her down too. She didn't want to but his look told her that she had no other option.
She said, "We can leave my car here. I'm coming here tomorrow anyways." Maan nodded and opened the passage door for Geet to get in.
