Real-life couple Varun Badola and Rajeshwari Sachdeva made news when they were said to act together in a serial titled Arranged Marriage. The serial explores a subject never attempted before on Indian TV. It has Rajeshwari Sachdeva playing a wedding planner, assisted by Bakhtyaar Irani and Swetta Keswani. And Varun plays an engineer who returns to India to get hitched.
The show was expected to launch by June, amidst much fanfare, on Star One. However, the cast hasn't shot in the last two months and despite having canned ten episodes, they don't know when the show will launch. Considering that the show is a weekly, ten episodes are enough to last longer than two months.
But the subject of the launch is a sore spot with the actors. Varun says, "We haven't shot any new scenes in the last two months. And I have no idea when it will launch. There is absolutely no word about this from the channel or the production house."
Swetta Keswani too voices the same concern. She says, "Our shoot got cancelled once in June. We were to begin shooting in the first week, but the shoot got postponed to the second week. Actually there is no official notice from the channel or the production house about when the show will go on air. I don't know why it keeps getting delayed."
"Certain scenes had to be re-shot," says Bakhtyaar Irani, who plays a fashion designer in the serial. "The show had to look good, so there were certain changes that had to be made. But it will be worth the wait," he promises.
Monisha Singh, UTV's creative director was also non-committal about the launch date. "I am going ahead with the shooting," was her brief response.
The channel representatives were unavailable for comment.
