Chapter # 27

"please close the door mayank, I need to talk about something important",

Nupur was overhearing all this standing a few steps behind and as the complex wooden art door of her drawing closed, she felt her heart come to a halt.

How could she overlook to share such an important detail with Mayank, and now why did her father all of a sudden had to talk to Mayank, he said he wasn't angry, but what if he questions Mayank, what if Mayank gets angry, what if he loses his temper, what if her dad loses his temper .. what if!! .. OH GOD!!.

"So mayank, how is college going?", Mr bhushan asked in a normal, casual tone and Mayank smiled, "very well sir"

"you have the last year left right?"

"yes sir, the last year for my bachelors", Mayank replied casually and normally.

"hmm, and what do you plan to do after that?", Sashi Bhushan asked rather normally, and although Mayank felt something odd, but he decided to ignore.

"sir after my bachelors I plan to find some good part time job and complete my masters by the same university, they'll offer scholarship if I manage to score above 3.8 CGPA and after that ofcourse will try to find a job suitable to my qualifications", he informed.

" your current CGPA is?", Sashi turned and Mayank smiled his usual perfect smile, "It's 4.00"

"well done!", Sashi Bhushan exclaimed sincerely, "and well I like your plans!", he giggled, "but what about marriage and girl talk?", he asked in a chirpy tone and suddenly Mayank's smile vanished. He tried to judge Sashi Bhushan's expressions but couldn't make out anything, while one the other hand Sashi Bhushan knew Mayank was judging his face.

"errmm, sir .. marriage is definitely out of questions till the next four to five years", he regained his composure and Sashi Bhushan nodded seriously, "and what if you fall in love?"

"I am more than happy to welcome love in my life, but to formally make it a part of my life, I would first like to achieve something on the basis of which I can keep my love happy, till then I guess I can wait and I am sure the girl who will fall in love with me will know she'll have to wait for atleast 5 years",

"hmmm, nice", he smiled affectionately and before Mayank could return his smile he called out a name which involuntary made his heart flutter, "nupur!, beta can we have some tea?", Sashi Bhushan shouted and immediately observed the softness of his eyes and the subtle smile gracing his lips.

Sashi Bhushan was now sure that Nupur didn't tell him about their encounter last night

Nupur breathed a sigh of relief that she was allowed to enter the room, and just by this request by her dad, she was assured that there wasn't any serious talk. She entered the room to find Mayank and her dad sitting on opposites sofas, she deliberately avoided looking at Mayank, who also kept his gaze lowered and while Sashi Bhsuahn was keenly observing both of them. The tea trolley was drawn in by a servant following and as Sashi Bhsuan ordered the servant to leave, the tea was served by Nupur.

She sat beside the trolley nervously making tea, and then an even task fell before her ' sugar. She glanced sideways at her father who gave her an affectionate smile and then she looked at Mayank and she cleared her throat, "umm .. sir ..", she murmured and Mayank raised his head, giving her his most grim expression which for a minute scared her but she managed to ask, "umm sugar"?

"i don't take sugar in tea", he said and nupur smiled weakly and handed him the cup, and even the blind could see how badly her hands were shaking. Mayank quickly took the cup and looked in her eyes, giving her a smile, "thank you", but for Nupur, she knew that smile wasn't for the thank you, that smile was for to tell her that everything is alright, and that was the only assurance she needed.

Sashi Bhushan drew another conclusion that it wasn't long since they had started liking each other, and for her daughter not knowing the amount of sugar meant it was hardly a day or two.

Handing her father a cup of tea, she was about to leave when Sashi made her sit again, "so Mayank how do you think is Nupur's exam preparation going?"

"it is going great sir, we'll be starting model papers in a week or so", he smiled normally and Nupur was yet again in awe that how was he maintaining his calmness, how wasn't he nervous.

"well that is great, " he smiled, "and now you both enjoy tea, I'll just be in my study room", with this he got up and Mayank and Nupur stood too,

"and all the best for your future Mayank, you must know how important your future is to me", he said seriously, looking in his eyes and Mayank nodded, "i know sir, and I promise if I fail to keep up my promise, I'll make sure my failure does not affect you, or anyone related to you", his voice was firm and determined, and the honesty in his voice was all Sashi Bhushan needed. He patted his shoulder and left the drawing room, and as Nupur was sure her dad was out of hearing distance she left her cup and rushed to Mayank, "Mayank .. I .. actually ..

"you told him right?", he asked sitting down again with his cup still looking at her who sat down beside with teary eyes, "I am sorry Mayank, last night dad was asking where was I, and I couldn't lie to him, I have never lied to him, so I told him", she said, with a tear rolling down her cheek, "but I know he likes you, he won't ever object on my choice, see he didn't say anything to you, he was..

"He actually told me that I need to be successful in my life if I ever wish to plan a future with you", he said seriously sipping his tea and Nupur felt her heart sink, "when?" she asked

"Just now!", he looked at her , placing the empty cup away,

"but right now he was wishing you for ..",she stopped in between and suddenly it struck her that what did her dad mean by wishing him for the future and judging by her expressions that she understood, Mayank slid an arm around her waist,, bringing her back to the feeling that she was so near him,

"you don't need to be sorry Nupur, he is your father, he has a right to know what is going on in your life,", he smiled and Nupur got teary again, "you aren't angry na?", she asked slowly, again a tear rolling down her smooth skin , which he wiped off with her finger, "not at all my scared princess", he smiled and Nupur broke into a teary smile as well, "I like the adjectives you use with princess"

"and I like the way my princess can turn into so many shades, from innocent to angry, to frowning to pouting, to breath takingly adorable to absolutely gorgeous and also", he leaned in and softly pecked her lips, "extremely kissable", he winked and turning the darkest shade of red she lowered her eyes, "Mayank the whole time you were talking to dad I went through the fear of losing you", she raised her eyes to see his smirk wasn't there and he was listening intently, "and it was agony ' please promise not to leave me", she asked scared, looking in his eyes and Mayank took a deep breath,

"I promise not to leave you until I feel you are happy with me", he said and saw her opening her mouth to argue which he silenced her by kissing her, "don't ask me to explain", he whispered and kissed again, and too much in daze, Nupur just kissed back.
