Aadesh accuses Anu Malik, Sameer of plagiarism ...

By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service

Mumbai, April 12 (IANS) This could be another abominable instance of plagiarism if the accusation is correct - Aadesh Shrivastav has accused director Raj Kanwar, composer Anu Malik and lyricist Sameer of ripping off his composition and using it illegally as the title song in "Humko Deewana Kar Gaye".

The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu, is releasing Friday.

"I couldn't sleep the whole night when I heard the song. My wife (Vijayta Pandit) requested me to calm down because my blood pressure shot up. But these are such shameless people," a livid Aadesh told IANS.

"Raj Kanwar, Anu and Sameer haven't only outraged me by lifting my tune. They have also lifted the late and great Anand Bakshi's poetry wholesale! How could Sameer, who is so popular and so successful, do this to Bakshi saab? Isn't there a fear of god in these people?" asked the angry composer.

Aadesh claims the title song of "Humko Deewana Kar Gaye" credited to Anu Malik, was actually composed by Aadesh for Vashu Bhagnani's "Deewanapan".

"You can check the records. It's registered on May 30, 2002, with the Film Writers' Association. I had composed it for Vashu-ji's film, which Ashu Trikha directed.

"But Vashu-ji found it too dreamy and romantic. So I had kept it aside for a big banner. It's a 'pahaadi' tune. Anand Bakshi uncle wrote the words 'Tum nahin aate to achcha tha, aake nahin jaate to achcha tha'. Sameer is now trying to pass Bakshi uncle's words as his own. Where's his conscience?"

The angry composer claims he had played the tune to Kanwar during one of their music sessions.

But Kanwar has a different story to tell.

"The only time I have been associated with Aadesh is when he did the background music for my film 'Baadal'. How can he talk like this? Why is he saying all these things? Can't creative minds think alike?

"If he thinks his song and the one in my film are similar, it's just a coincidence. There are so many love stories being made. Does it mean all of them are copied for one another? The same applies to love songs."

But Aadesh, who's currently being praised for his superb score in Kalpana Lajmi's "Chingari", is adamant.

"They can say what they like. They have blatantly and brazenly lifted my song. And I intend to take legal action. I still remember how Anand Bakshi uncle had congratulated me after hearing the tune. He said, 'Beta, all songs based on the 'raag pahaadi' are hits. Yours will be a success.'

"Now look what they have done. What they have done to me is bad enough. But what they have done to the dead poet Anand Bakshi is unforgivable."

Well Shady Ji..anu is known for it and never had any legal action.

1 Taaren hain baraati [Film: Virasat (1997)] <TC>
Inspired from Simon and Garfunkel's classic 'El condor pasa'.
Listen to Taaren hain | El condor pasa
One of the most creative inspirations by Anu Malik, the hard work he has put in really shows! El condor pasa is an 18th century Peruvian folk melody. Around 1916, Peruvian composer Daniel Alomias Robles notated this popular traditional melody and used it as the basis for an instrumental suite. The 'If I could' words are by Paul Simon!
Also listen to
One of the traditional Peruvian version of El condor pasa (by Los Calchakis). And listen to another version of this original by Anu Malik, in Jaanam (Refer listing no. 39 in this page)

2 Mera piya ghar aaya [Film: Yaarana] <TC>
Ripped off from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Mera piya ghar'.

Plagiarism at its worst!

3 Loye loye [Film: Yaaraana] <TC>
Ditto from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's song 'loye loye'

Again, plagiarism at its worst!

4
Tere Dar pe Sanam [Film: Phir teri kahani yaad aayi]
From Pakistani singer Mazhar Firdaus's song 'tere dar par sanam'

Looking for an audio clip of the original Pakistani song.

5 Jawani Diwani [Film: Chamatkar] <TC>
Lifted straight off Boney M's 1979 number 'Bahama Mama' from their album 'Oceans of Fantasy'.
Listen to Jawani Diwani | Bahama Mama
'Bahama Mama' is a catchy disco track about Bahama Mama who has six daughters whom she can't get married. It was released as the second single back-to-back with 'I'm Born Again' and also released in an extended version on the 12" single.

6 O Meri Neend Churane Wale [Film: Chamatkar] <TC>
From Dr Hook's 'When you're in love with a beautiful Woman'
Listen to O mere neend churane waale | When you are in love...
Lifted. Also listen to Bappi Lahiri's version of the same original - Bappi Lahiri page, 4th listing.

7
Dole Dil Dole [Film: Baazi] <TC>
Ditto from the Come September tune!

Pathetic!

8 Jaane mujhe kya hua [Film: Baazi] <TC>
From Beethoven's Fur Elise! Again!!!!

Even more pathetic!

9 Dheere dheera aap mere [Film: Baazi] <TC>
From Mehdi Hassan's ghazal Rafta rafta!
Listen to Dheere dheere | Rafta rafta
Hmmm...that's the third lift in this movie!

10
Aisa zakhm diya hai [Film: Akele hum akele tum]
The opening lifted from Deep purple's Sweet child in time
Listen to Aisa zakhm diya hai | Child in time
Ditto! Rest of the tune is original and is a very good tune, at that! The Deep Purple song came out in 1970 and was part of the album 'Deep Purple in Rock'

11 Dil mera churaya kyon [Film: Akele hum akele tum] <TC>
From Wham's Last Christmas!
Listen to Dil mera | Last Christhmas
Bah, why did he have to copy such a popular number?

12 Raja ko Rani se Pyar ho gaya [Film: Akele Hum Akele Tum] <TC>
From the Love theme - Godfather by Nino Rota!
Listen to Raja ko | Godfather theme
Ditto! Good inspiration, though! Also listen to Sanjeev Darshan's version of the same original - Hindi-Others page, 26th item! An interesting trivia rejoinder: One of this site's visitors, CB, wrote in asking if I thought the Godfather love theme sounds similar to Dimitri Tiomkin's Academy Award winning score for 'High Noon' (the song was also called 'Do not forsake me...'). When I heard Dimitri's number, I felt it sure did have traces of Nino's score....or the other way round, since Nino's Godfather score came in 1972 while High Noon came in 1951!. Incidentally CB remembered such a similarity after listening to the Aashiq number! Try listening to the High Noon number and compare it with Akele hum akele tum's 'Raja ko rani se pyaar ho gaya'....the opening is very much there but with subtle differences and even the part which goes 'dil jigar dono ghayal...'! Surprising! Interestingly, both Dimitri Tiomkin and Nino Rota have won Academy awards for their respective works in High Noon and The Godfather. Its a different story that the Academy realized that some of the music for The Godfather was recycled from an Italian movie ('Fortunella') that Nino had scored some time back and declared it ineligible in its category and withdrew the nomination. However, two years later, Rota was nominated in the same category for his work on "The Godfather: Part II," and this time he won the Oscar (but had to be content by sharing it co-composer, Carmine Coppola, father of director Francis Ford Coppola - and grand dad of actor Nicholas Cage!!)
Listen to Do not forsake me (High Noon)

Music plagiarism!!!!

As a country priding itself on moral values, we teach our children not to cheat in exams or make a fast buck at the expense of someone else. And here we have the largest musical industry in the world, almost thriving unchecked and growing unrestrained plagiarism.

My thought only.

Manju..this has been going on ..Sajjad who is considered the only original MD accused Madan Mohan of stealing his tune . Sajjad was refering to Yeh hawa yeh raat yeh chandani - namely Tujhe kya sunau main dilruba (Aakhari Daao - Rafi) from Madan Mohan. Sure the tune was the same. And sure Sajjad had conceived it first. So did Madan Mohan actually steal it ? There was no legal fight there either.

This is on going in our MD history...but some MD have hardly any originality and they just take from here and there and call themselves MD

Exactly, If the MD is not ashamed of stealing then why is he ashamed to say that his song is inspired by..this or that song.
