I think Bad dancers can hide behind props, gadgets, costumes, music, choreo etc.
Sometimes even a good partner can help a bad dancer.😆
In public voting most voters may also look at the "face value" and the music too.

Most public opinion of dance and other arts is driven by pop culture and not actual aesthetic understanding of the dance form. Most people won't know technical details like correct postures, gestures, movements etc for a particular dance. So audiences go by simpler things that are easy to judge on personal preference like music, appearance and entertainment value. Props, stunts, lifts, flashiness and a whole variety of things may not display technical mastery or dance skills but are very popular due to entertainment value.

So in general an audience often dismisses a classical bhartnatyam routine or a slow waltz, despite the dancer achieving perfection because its not exciting or entertaining ' but will get all pumped up over someone who can thrust their hips, wave batons and do handstands to the music.

There are simple steps for bad dancers to receive votes, accolades and grand salutes. A bad dancer may choose to do one, more or all of the following.

- Pair with a better dancer. Do simple steps while the better dancer does all the work like leading, difficult movement, lifts, pirouettes etc. Expect the better dancer to be aware and change up quickly to match you when you miss the beat.

- Pick the most obnoxiously bad pop music ever for your routine

- Incorporate as many gymnastics in the routine as you can. Actually scratch that, just lift an obscure Slovenians gymnastic floor routine and do that

- Imagine having sex, but just perform all those movements on stage on your own

- Cartwheels, Handstands, Backflips, Jumping from heights, pretty much eliminate the gap between man and ape.

- Pyrotechnics and glitter. Just like Ke$ha and Edward Cullen awe the audience because you are sparkly and can have fire shoot out from your crotch or boobs.

- Dress like Michael Jackson or some other famous revered celebrity and count on their star aura to carry you through

- Bedazzle the audiences by climbing walls and flying in the air. Its not as if the dumb audience knows that bungee jumpers, mountaineers and a whole slew of adventure sportspeople do all that jazz and more sometimes with less equipment.

Yes Agreed with RTH.
The show is basically profit orientated and is ready to do anything that will raise the TRP.
It is in many ways like a Bollywood Dance show that needs good music and choreography. It is all anout entertainment, novelty etc. But in the end the audiences too want some substance. And they will decide what they like.
Often some of the best do not make it and the bad ones escape elimination. But generally the top ten are all pretty good.
Sometimes good dancers that are a threat to the channel's "chosen one" are also thrown out early.
