Part 10: Beyond All Reasoning
It was dark orange just a moment before and in a jiffy it became jet black as if someone has smudged black ink on the canvas of sky and soaked all the color of it. Maanendra was staring at that from the window of his room, observing this with so much concentration that he failed to notice Geet's presence. Geet wait for a long time ' she was confused to call him or not. After last day's aggressive kiss Geet was shy, actually perplexed. How possessively he declared his right on her. Their first kiss was passionate but last night's harshness or over protectiveness is not his usual self. First day she felt he was admiring his muse's blood and flesh form that was her, last time she felt he wants his copy right on his fantasized woman but does he loves her the way she loves him or its only an artist's love for his muse. Geetasri couldn't figure it out. Well Geetasri may not understand many complications of this world but this complexity of feelings is universal truth for a woman, they always want their love to love her the way she loves but most of the time failed. With the puzzle of this unuttered questions, Rajlakshmi's shocking reaction added to her confusions. She wanted to stay in her room today but couldn't. It has become her habit to meet Maan at least for once. She just can't control herself. But when she came to him he was lost in his thought. After a few minute of hesitation finally she puts her hand on his bare shoulder. Maan came out from his trance.
"Geet... I didn't notice you. When did you come?"
"What happened Maan? You seem to be lost? You were so much engrossed in your thought."
"Geet I am not able to make the deity ... I made so many sculptures but curving Radha-Krishna is getting so difficult for me. I can curve Krishna alone but Radha... she is too difficult to understand. I read a lot ... I read everything which describes Radha but couldn't understand her. All my wisdom failed here. My logic can easily comprehend and criticize all the great epic characters, the heroes, the tragic heroes even those whom you call God."
"God?" Geetasri was surprised. "You need not to criticize God. They are beyond criticism ... that's why the are God na." Geet said innocently.
"Why not Geet... rather, they must be criticized, devotion is a big word Geet, before being a devotee of some one you must know does he deserve it or not."
Geet's conservative thought again got hurt. She frowned, "Don't you believe in God? Are you an atheist?" She said with a little bit pain in her voice.
Maanendra's answer came in a heavier and calmed voice, "No, I do believe in God... I am not an atheist but I choose my own God. I can't pour my admiration some one whom my mind, my sense doesn't accept ...One who punish a man in the name of cast can't be my God, I can't pray to some one who send his brother to kill a unarmed person during his prayer, I can't deep my head in front of someone who can't accept his wife fearing other's reaction."
Geet understood whom he is talking about, still she asked, "Are you talking about Sri Ramchanda?"
"yes Geet I am talking about him." there was no excitement no anger no fear in his voice. Calmly he said. "Why Geet you are scared that I am saying this about your God or are you angry?" He smiled. "but Geet for once come out from your believe and open your mind will you be able to respect someone rejects his wife, who has already proved her purity, in the demand of his tenant. Everybody thinks he cross so many lands even sea to rescue his love but after saving her, his first words were, "... na tadarthang moya kritoh/ prokhyatsyatmabongsasya nangang parimarjita"*... "don't think I have won this battle to save you/ in reality I had to do it to wash the infamy that was in the name of my great family." In that much awaited moment he declared that Sita was only an excuse not the reason of his Lanka-jai.
Rama knew that people of Ayodhya may not accept Sita as their queen as she was imprisoned of Ravan for a lonng time, so not even thinking twice he asked her to marry someone else "Lakhmane bath Bharate kuru buddhing jatha sukham"... "Nakshman or Bharat marry anyone you want."** Sitaji didn't have to be insulted in this way in Ravan's capture. Ravan Kidnapped her, imprisoned her, tried to trick her but never forced her. That knowledgeable man respected this pious lady but her own husband leaves her for the throne. To him making his subject happy was more important than protecting his wife's honor and you call him 'Purusottam'.. 'the greatest man?' It was Ramchandra's disbelief that leads Sitaji to suicide..."
"Suicide?" Geet asked in a painful voice. She read Ramayan, Devdutt taught her but never thought in this way. It was only reading not realizing.
"Sitaji asked for her own death ... isn't it a suicide?" Maan replied with another question.
Geet's eyes was expressing her sorrow... she was in a confused state... can't ignore what Maan is saying but it's difficult to uproot the belief of twenty three years in a minute, that too when it comes to God. Her voice sounded like whisper, "but how can he go against the society." Maan gave a longer pause and said, "if he can't go beyond society, if he is afraid of rules then he can't be a GOD... he can't be almighty who can't change the world for good."
"Do you think same about Sri Krishna?" The question came from the side of Geet after a few minute. Criticism of Ram was bearable for her coz he was one of the Gods for her but Krishna was her beloved one... he was the one whom she worshiped from her childhood. Whenever the word GOD comes in her mind the picture of Krishna comes in front of her. So she has to gather all her courage to ask this question, "Tell me what do you thing about Sri Krishna?"
Maan understood her dilemma, he smiled, " from where you see your God Geet you always find him with a flute and a beautiful smile in his face, from where I see him, I see him with a shankh in his hand, guiding Arjun in Kurukshetra ... I respect this Krishna... no not like you.. not as God but as a great man, a great politician. A man of wisdom and unusual intelligence, unshaken in his goal, he changed things how he wanted. Battle of Kurukshetra was never about Dharma or Adharma, if it was, then how many Adharma Krishna has done is uncountable, hiding the truth of Karna from Pandavas.. [if they knew Karna is their brother may this battle won't happen], Killing unarmed Karna, supporting unethical ways in war; Kurukshetra's war was all about stopping fire with fire. And Sri Krishna piloted it from behind. I admire this leader, who changed a society, changed the scenario of a country."
Maan paused to see Geet's reaction but Geet had a bewildering expression on her face. This time she really didn't know how to react. Maan said everything like he is talking about a normal human not a God. Just then a question strikes her, "You don't worship any mythological God... do you worship Sri Chaitanya Dev like Devdutt ji. Devdutt Ji believes he is the God of this era.. he is an avtar of Lord Krishna."
"Geet, God is almighty omnipotent ... people believes he can do anything he wants but when a human being within his limited capability do something great with his sacrifice, dedication and determination... it becomes triumph of humanity, imposing divinity on him is insult of humanity."
Geet was listening Maan keeping her one hand on her cheeks and trying to swallow his speech. Maan looked at her, "its getting difficult for you na? You are still considering me as an atheist... but its true I belive in God ... I believe in the God who dwells in me... my conscience, my recognition... I only trust only one thing...
"Dharma Matih Udgritah"***
Dharma is that which is well judged by your mind or sense, anything that is not considered by your heart is not Dharma... following that is Adharma indeed. And that's why for me my discretion, my conscience is my only God who stays in my heart and guides me. Blind faith is Adharma for me, judging things with open eyes is what I call Dharma."
"But what about trust and devotion ... even Chaitanya Dev said trust God and devote yourself on his feet."
"yes he said coz this society need this, to save uneducated, tormented people from the gulp of society... a society who befooled people in the name of religion this is needed. Poor illiterate people is not enough matured to accept it, not enough knowledgeable to form their own insight. The theory of pure devotion and no magnificence is introduced for them. But from the ancient age every religion has valued human logic and intellection above all. In Geeta where Sri Krishna has been considered as the supreme God, even there at the end he said to Arjun,
"iti te janam akhyata?
guhyad guhyatara? maya
vim?syaitad ase?e?a
yathecchasi tatha kuru"****
'Thus I have explained to you knowledge still more confidential. Deliberate on this fully, and then do what you wish to do.'... do what you wished to do Krishna said... even God didn't force an ordinary man to follow him blindly but gave the freedom to proceed as he wants. 'Atmadeepo bhaba, atmasmarano bhabo, anonno sarano bhaba'... this is the main and last word of every religion. Geet you know what does it mean?"
Geet nodded her head negatively. She never heard it .. it's not a Sanskrit Sloka she thought.*****
"It was the last thing Goutam duddha said to his dearest follower Ananda ... Ananda asked HIM after his death who will guide them in the right path in reply he said those lines which means... be your own light, be your own guide, don't get destructed by other's .. see here too Buddha Dev asked to follow own heart... whatever we learn, read or hear everything should be judged under own logic and views, if our mind pass it then only we should follow it ... and following our own conscience is Dharma only. I know its too early to expect this from the contemporary society but I believe in future a day will come when people will be enlightened by the light of own intelligence and knowledge."
Maan became silent. There was no sound for sometime but the faint sound of wave from a distance. Maan looked at Geet to see her reaction. She was looking at somewhere else. After a few moment she said feebly not moving her eyes, "You think a lot na? Every time try to find reason behind everything... that's why you found it's difficult to understand Radha ... as she is easy to feel, difficult to understand. Sri Krishna may have played different roles in Mahabharat but Radha's existence starts with Krishna and ends with him, Sri Krishna may have multiple images but when his name comes with radha it signifies only love. There are many emotions which can't be reasoned. Where all logic fails, surrender yourself to your feelings ... may be in the course of listening to your mind you are ignoring your heart. Maan you know much more than me... may be that's why your world is much complicated than mine but there are some simple things too ... do not complicate them ... in the quest of reasoning you may miss to feel your heart."
Maan was astonished heard this from Geet. He never thought an innocent and ordinary girl like her can tell this. He looked into her eyes .. somewhere she was reflecting something what he was realizing from few days. Still he is unable to recognize that but it definitely has something to do with Geet's last words. Geet smiled, "I have to leave now" she said. As she was about to leave Maan became agitated from inside... he hold her by her wrist, "Geet don't go... don't go now..." he was restless, "Geet I want to make a statue of my muse... I am asking my muse to be my model... Geet be my model .. I want to immortalize my imagination... want to immortalize your beauty in my work... don't reject me please." Maan requested with immense passion. Geet closed her eyes in the mention of muse... 'only muse nothing more!' her heart cried but she couldn't reject her... she can't. She smiled weakly and nodded in positive.
