A religious organisation here has raised objection over what it called an offending dialogue by Sanjay Dutt in Karan Johar's film Agneepath and has demanded its removal.

In the film, super-villain Sanjay Dutt says "Geeta ka unneswan adhyay mai likhoonga" (I will write the 19th chapter of Geeta).

Bhagavad Geeta is revered as Hinduism's holiest book and it contains 18 chapters.

Says Pramod Malhotra, convenor of Shree Geeta Jayanti Mahotsav Committee: "Lord Shri Krishna has revealed the sum and substance of life and universe in the eighteen chapters of Bhagvad Geeta, and there's no need for anybody to write a nineteenth. Neither should anybody dare do this ".

"The Bhagavad Geeta, based on the sermons given by Lord Krishna to his friend Arjuna in Mahabharata, aims at welfare of people throughout the world, and there is no point in denigrating the holy book. We won't allow this to happen", says Malhotra.

He has threatened to stop exhibition of the film Agneepath at cine theatres if the offending dialogue is not removed.

Malhotra says, even a court in Russia tried to ban Geeta saying it promoted militancy, but later withdrew after strong objections from India.

LOL isn't the whole point of the dialogue to show just how arrogant, how evil the bad guy is?

Some people will just get offended at anything. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a publicity gimmick. The timing is suspicious. If it isn't a copyright issue, it's a religious one. 😳

sometimes i feel these film people themselves raise controversies...by taking help of their PR...i mean u tell me...the promos are on since november in all sections of media, so why the fuss on the release, and this has been going on since many years...similar stuff happened with AAja Nachle in which the word mochi had been used in the title song, there was a lot of heat before the release and the movie was banned until that word was removed from the film...also it happened right at the moment of the release where the song itself had been out there since months...

Even I don't like the dialouge but who cares. Every other movie has some such dialouge or song. Like the raas leela character dheela song. His dialouge or such song wont change my beliefs and faith then why bother.

And it's a very sacred and holy scripture in Hinduism, so if people raise objection to it, I dont see the harm in doing so. Writer didnt think before writing the dialouge, people dont mind enjoying it, some dont like it... u are angry at how they think.. same way then they dont like the use of such dialouge so I guess they're free to raise an objection.

Of course it's a sacred text and I'd say it's these ridiculous complaints that demean the scripture rather than the dialogue itself. They are using the Geeta as an excuse, for their selfish agenda/publicity gimmick. Seems to me the line isn't written as an attack against the Geeta by the writer but to show just how bad the villain is; doesn't seem to me that they are glorifying that line or anything. The character is probably mocking the Geeta in this scene because you know, he's evil.

I don't know if its for publicity. Its possible and then again maybe its not. If it is then its sad on their part but if it isn't then I think it is ok for them to raise an objection.
To you its not written as an attack. To others it may not be an attack but offending. Every person has a different thinking and opinion you see. They aren't saying that the line is glorifying anything. Just that they dont find the use of such lines suitable or apt.
And mocking of a religion's sacred book can be offending. They can write other lines to show his evilness. But they chose that. Bcoz to them it suited it and they used it. To the religious ppl its not suitable and they dont like it so they're raising an objection. It's fine I believe. Film makers liked it and used it in the film and the organisation doesnt like it and filed a case. Goes both ways.

Only if the movie actually justifies the mocking and supports it. That doesn't seem to be the case here. Quite the opposite I'd say. Common sense says that it shouldn't be offensive.

The funny thing here is that the objection itself is more offensive than the line they're getting so worked up about. Someone should lodge a complaint against them (not religious people in general but the people who create such nuisances) for misusing the scripture this way.
