Chapter 16

As the car stopped, Geet looked over at Maan and wondered if she should say anything to the silent man next to her. Eventually her good manners won and she muttered a small thanks, which Maan gave no acknowledgement to. Instead he opened his car door and quickly made his way down the walkway to the outhouse. Geet was slower to get out of the car, confused about the night's events.

After Maan had sent those goons away and made her get into the car, they had traveled quietly for a few minutes. Then, when a reckless driver forced Mohan to suddenly stop the car, she had been jerked around onto Maan's chest. If that wasn't bad enough, her hair had gotten caught in his shirt. Geet felt so awkward that she wasn't able to untangle the caught strands, forcing Maan to do so.

He had looked extremely annoyed, but more than that, he acted as if she somehow had done the thing on purpose. Once her hair was freed, he started a lecture about how there was nothing between them except business and that she should not get personal. When they were in the office, she was never to address him by name, or talk about anything but office matters. Then he sat quietly staring at his phone, not saying one more word. The man was truly a robot, and Geet just shook her head as she made her way inside, hoping that tomorrow would be better.

"Naintara, can't we just talk about this?" pleaded Dev as he tried to stop her from putting her clothes in the suitcase.

"There's nothing more to talk about Dev. You can stay here, under your brother's thumb and forced to live like a slave, but not me. This isn't what I signed up for. I'm going back home. If you are ever interested in not hiding behind your brother's shadow anymore, contact me."

Naintara finished and began to leave the room, dragging the suitcase behind her. Dev ran after her, trying to convince her not to leave. He shouted for Savitri to come and stop his wife, only to be told by the servants that Savitri had gone out. Dev had no choice but to accompany Naintara to the airport, trying his best to convince her, and totally forgetting about his work responsibilities.

While Dev was busy trying to stop Naintara, Maan had just been informed that Munshiji needed to speak with him about some difficulties he had run into with his recent land purchase. Maan had not even spoken with anyone in the office about the new project, as he wanted them to only focus on winning the Chopra project. That was why he requested Munshiji to meet with him in one of their soundproof conference rooms, which was quickly agreed to.

Maan was not happy to hear of any problems, and he was even less happy when he heard what they were. Munshiji explained that they didn't have all the signatures of the seller that they needed. He also explained that there was some legal processes that required both Maan and the seller to sign the necessary documents and pay the fees for land registration at the office in Amritsar. When Maan asked why Munshiji hadn't brought the seller with him to see the business done, Munshiji had to explain that he had tried, but was told by the seller's family that she was unavailable.

"Chote Saab, the family was most uncooperative and even threatened me physically. I am afraid that we may need to involve the police in the matter. As it is, we've already paid them the money, so we can bring a case of fraud if they don't cooperate."

"Who is this seller who is unavailable?" questioned Maan, turning the documents to the last page. When he saw the signature, his jaw tightened in barely supressed fury.

Geet was busy typing away some emails that Maan had told her to send when the phone rang. "Geet, come to the third floor conference room!" where the words she heard barking out the receiver at her.

"Yes, Sir," she replied, letting out a sigh as she put the receiver down.

Picking up her paper pad and a pen, Geet wished that she had a better solution to her problem than working for such a short tempered person. Unfortunately, she had only been able to come up with one option for the private investigator, and that was to take out a loan for the funds. That option meant that she needed a way to pay the load off, and that meant she had to have a job. The end result of this thought process was that she would have to stick out her secretary job with Maan, regardless of what behavior he showed her.

Not knowing her way around the office very well yet, she stopped by reception to ask Pinky for directions. Naturally, Pinky couldn't let Geet go without having a bit of a chat. It was only when Geet indicated that Maan was waiting for her, that Pinky let her go, after giving the directions. With her spirits lifted by her friend's talk, Geet happily walked down the stairs and toward's her khadoos boss.

When Maan heard the knock at the door he loudly commanded the person to come in. Seeing Geet come in nonchalantly, Maan felt his temper rise to the breaking point. Taking a few deep breaths to get control of himself, he turned around, not able to see the young girl's face. Turning slightly towards Munshiji, Maan told the old employee to leave them alone. After the man had left and the door closed, only then did Maan unleash his fury.

"I have met some real deceitful people in my life, most of them women, but you are the biggest by far. How do you live with yourself? How can you get up in the morning and actually look yourself in the mirror? What am I saying? A shameless woman like you obviously wouldn't bother thinking about something like that."

"What are you talking about?" questioned a shocked Geet, who had expected that Maan would need her to take notes or something like that.

"Don't try to play the innocent card with me. I know that you are anything but. What I can't understand, is knowing what women are like, how much they like to take advantage of people, that I could still get conned like this. Well, your game is up, and now you are going to do what I want!"

Precap

"Geet, what happened?" came Pinky's concerned question when she saw the tears on her face.

"Isn't it obvious?" returned Sasha with attitude. "MK fired her."
