Must-see Bollywood releases in 2012

The days of reading lists of upcoming Bollywood releases and finding those full of new-age rom coms and macho action films are long gone. Here are some kick-ass films and some awesome come-backs in 2012, and what a year it seems to be!

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra

Starring Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor

The director of Rang De Basanti and Delhi-6 is making a biopic about Milkha Singh, our Flying Sikh and Olympic gold winner. The multitalented Farhan Akhtar takes on Milkha's role, so the film already sounds brilliant!

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2

Directed by Milan Luthria

Starring Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor

With The Dirty Picture, Milan Luthria became the household Bollywood maker of stories from the dark underbelly of Indian society. He returns to his magnum opus Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, with Akshay Kumar replacing Emraan Hashmi as the surviving don and documents his rise as the biggest crime overlord of Mumbai.

Joker

Directed by Shirish Kunder

Starring Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Shreyas Talpade, Javed Jaffery

Ever heard of something as awesome as a live action Hindi fantasy film that is not meant for kids and has a star cast? Akshay Kumar stars in this multistarrer 3D-shot film, apparently about aliens!

Heroine

Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar

Starring Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal

With Bhandarkar's portfolio of dark women-centric films about Mumbai and society, this seems to be his finest moment. The take on Bollywood's male-dominated industry and its use of heroines should be Kareena at her best as well.

Talaash

Directed by Reema Kagti

Starring Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor

Reema Kagti has directed Honeymoon Travels and co-written the feel-special Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The Assamese lass directs Aamir Khan in his first ever suspense thriller.
