What his national award winning movie couldn't do to Dhanush, the catchy Kolaveri seems to have done. He is nothing less than the face of the nation and is flying from city to city to participate in product launches and television shows, thanks to his new found superstardom.

To top it all, Dhanush became the special invitee for the state dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda at his 7 Race Course Road residence in New Delhi. Now he couldn't have asked for more, could he? "Kolaveri Di has opened lots of doors for me, so I am deciding which door to choose," Dhanush was quoted as saying.

Aishwarya is my lucky charm: Dhanush

In the city to attend a dinner hosted by PM Manmohan Singh, Dhanush and his wife Aishwarya spoke about Delhi winter, his whirlwind success and their New Year's plans

Piyali Dasgupta

The "Kolaveri Di" singer Dhanush, along with his wife Aishwarya, visited the capital on Wednesday evening. "I was invited as a special guest for a dinner party hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the Japanese delegations at the Hyderabad house in the capital," he said about his sudden trip to Delhi, adding, "It was an honour to interact with the PM, even though it was brief. The PM shook hands with me and said 'nice meeting you'. He also appreciated my song and wished me and my family for New Year's."
About his big leap with "Kolaveri Di", he said, "With "Kolaveri Di" becoming a huge hit, people who didn't know of me as an actor, have started recognising me as both, an actor and a singer."
Aishwarya, who will be celebrating her birthday on January 1, has no plans for New Year's Eve. She said "Like every year, this year too, I will be celebrating my birthday with my family in Chennai. I will also be busy with work." When asked if she had any New Year's resolution in mind, she said, "No. I feel I'm never able to keep to them. So I'm just going to take it as it comes and leave the rest to God." Then Dhanush took over, and said, "I'll be busy shooting in Chennai on the 31st. I've been getting lot of offers to perform on that date but I would like to spend time with my wife and kids at home. Also it's a special occasion as Aishwarya would be celebrating her birthday the next day. It would be more of a family affair."
Talk about Delhi and Dhanush smiles. He said, "Its so cold here. But I'm loving the weather. It was a very short trip, but next time I would like to plan a proper trip to Delhi and would like to get my kids, Yatra and Linga along." To this, Aishwarya added, "The last time I had visited Delhi was during the National Awards ceremony. I'm enjoying the Delhi winter. Usually, I'm so busy with my work and kids in Chennai, that I don't get time to travel. It's only after the popularity of this song that Dhanush and I have been travelling all across the country. Next, we plan to visit the capital during the promotion of the movie."
Does she feel proud of her husband? "Honestly speaking, the entire family is happy. Papa (Rajinikanth) feels very proud of him. I feel Dhanush is not only a brilliant actor and singer, but also a perfect husband and father." Dhanush instantly returned the compliment saying, "Well, Aishwarya is my lucky charm!"

Web Wonders!

The internet is now a force to reckon with when it comes to showcasing talent

Amar Ashok Jajoo

While video platforms on the internet have seen more than one trillion playbacks in 2011, it has also emerged as a major medium for youngsters around the world to showcase their talent. BT explores success stories over the internet, and the way this medium has helped them.
KOLAVERI CRAZE!
Post November 16 2011, everybody had just one question on their mind — Why this Kolaveri di? The song composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Dhanush became a massive hit amongst youngsters after its digital release. It soon went viral over the social circuits because of its catchy and quirky blend of English and Tamil lyrics. The video has over 32 million views, and has also inspired several other videos, which are parodies or remakes of the song. Dhanush said in an interview later that even though the makers had anticipated the song would do well in Tamil Nadu, but the impact has been incredible and it has certainly opened many new vistas for him.
AISA BHI HOTA HAIN!
Towards the end of 2010, a story broke out on the internet, which left many in tears. Rohan Rathore — an IIT-ian from Guwahati who loved a girl who didn't reciprocate his feelings. He composed a touching song for her and died of cancer 15 days later. The song became a rage online and was shared by a large number of people on social networking sites, which resulted in millions of views for the video. Fortunately, the story was not as sad it seemed, because Rohan Rathore never existed. But, the fake story had worked for sure! Gajendra Verma — a singer from Mumbai claimed the legal rights soon and explained how the song had leaked over the internet. Apparently, the song was originally sung by Gajendra and written by Aseem Ahmed Abbasee and his friend Monami Roy. He later posted the song on the tube with a slideshow of his pictures. Today, his other songs like Phir Suna are also posted on the web and are loved by many.
AGE NO BAR!
Shraddha Sharma, who is Std XI student in Dehradun, became a familiar face over the web after one of her videos Haal-e-dil went viral. As of now, Shraddha has over 38,000 subscribers on her channel and her videos have collectively garnered over five million views. She claims that she's just a girl next-door, but it's evident that her popularity has certainly made her extraordinary and media tags her as India's Justin Bieber!
Canadian Singer Natalie Di Luccio (22), has impressed listeners with her rendition of Bollywood songs. Her online success allowed her to work with some of the biggies from B-town like Sonu Nigam and music maestro AR Rahman. "Even before my success on the web, I was involved in music, but my online success has helped me gain a lot of opportunities. It's really fortunate that today we have a platform, which can help us in such an amazing way," says Natalie. She has not only sung songs in movies like Band Baaja Baaraat and Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, but has also recorded a Marathi and Tamil song.
Taking inspiration from the Kolaveri sensation, a forest guard from Seoni — Arpit Mishra — along with his base guitarist friend —Rinku Nikhare from Nagpur — recorded a Hindi version of the song. Arpit connected with the song because he went through a heartbreak in the past. Rinku, while sharing his experience, says, "I was well aware about the popularity of the song, so when Arpit came up with the Hindi lyrics, we decided to record it and post it online. Web treats everybody alike and offers equal opportunities!"
