Karan Johar to adapt Amish Tripathi's book for the big screen

Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has landed the film rights of Amish Tripathi's best-selling debut novel, The Immortals of Meluha. The book had attracted much attention since Amish announced he was on the lookout for a producer to adapt his book. Producers from Hollywood and Bollywood were vying for the film rights, even as his second book in the Shiva Trilogy, The Secret of the Nagas was launched.

Says an insider, "Karan credits the buying to the CEO of Dharma Productions, Apurva Mehta, who had been negotiating for the book rights for months." The emotional content and the love story between Shiva and Parvati are very strong elements in the novel. Karan will look into finer details, apart from the screenplay. Since it deals with religion and mythology he will make sure that the subject will be treated with sensitivity.

That search has now ended. Says a happy Amish, "I believe that my books are a result of Lord Shiva's blessings. He is a God who excites intense passions. If one wants to tell His story, it can only be done with intense passion and commitment. And that is what I saw in Dharma Productions towards The Immortals of Meluha. I believe that my book is in very safe hands with Karan and his team."

Says Karan, "I was blown away with the world of Meluha and rivetted by Amish's creation of it. I think the book lends itself beautifully for celluloid and we are very excited to promote Amish's labour of love effectively." Now the big question is who is going to direct a film of this magnitude from Dharma and which big star will play Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati?

The Immortals of Meluha The first book in Amish Tripathi's Shiva Trilogy, Immortals of Meluha tells the story of a Tibetan immigrant named Shiva who is invited to the kingdom of Meluha where he discovers his destiny. A retelling of the legend of Lord Shiva, this work of fiction found many fans.

The Shiva Trilogy Three books in all: The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas and The Oath of the Vayuputras.

P.S. I agree with twitter suggestions to Kjo for casting Hrithk as Shiva and Deepika as Sati..

This is a synopsis from WIKI..

Plot

Meluha is a near perfect empire, created many centuries earlier by Lord Ram, one of the greatest monarchs that ever lived. However, the once proud empire and its Suryavanshi rulers face severe perils as its primary river, the revered Saraswati, is slowly drying to extinction. They also face devastating terrorist attacks from the east, the land of the Chandravanshis who have joined forces with the Nagas, a cursed race with physical deformities. The present king of Meluha, Daksha, sends his emissaries to North India in Tibet, to invite the tribes that live there to Meluha. One of those invited are the Gunas, whose chief Shiva is a brave warrior and protector. Shiva accepts the proposal and moves to Meluha with his tribe. They reach the city of Srinagar and are received there by Ayurvati, the Chief of Medicine of the Meluhans. Shiva and his tribe are impressed with the Meluhan way of life. On their first night of stay at Srinagar, the Gunas wake up amid high fever and sweating. The Meluhans, under Ayurvati's orders, carry on the healing process. However, Ayurvati finds out that Shiva is the only one devoid of these symptoms and that his throat has turned blue. The Meluhans announce Shiva as the Neelkanth, their fabled saviour.

Shiva is then taken to Devagiri, the capital city of Meluha, where he meets King Daksha. While staying there, Shiva and his comrades, Nandi and Veer Bhadra, encounter a mysterious woman, who though very beautiful, has a look of penance on her face. They later come to know that she is Princess Sati, the daughter of Daksha and is a vikarma, an untouchable in this life due to sins of her past births. Shiva tries to court her, but she rejects his advances. Ultimately Shiva wins her heart and they decide to get married, even though the Vikarma rule prohibits them from doing so. Enraged by the so-called obsolete law, Shiva declares himself as the Neelkanth and swears to dissolve the Vikarma law. Daksha allows Sati to get married to Shiva, amid much joy and happiness.

During his stay in Devagiri, Shiva comes to know of the treacherous wars that the Chandravanshis are carrying on the Meluhans. He also meets Brahaspati, the Chief Inventor of the Meluhans. Brahaspati invites Shiva and the royal family on an expedition to Mount Mandar, where the legendary Somras is manufactured using the waters of the Saraswati river. Shiva learns that the potion which made his throat turn blue was actually undiluted Somras, which can be lethal when taken in its pure form. However, Shiva was unaffected, which was the first sign that he was the Neelkanth. He also learns that Somras was the reason why the Meluhans lived for so many years. Brahaspati and Shiva develop a close friendship and the royal family returns to Devagiri. One morning, the whole of Meluha wakes up to loud noises coming from Mount Mandar. Shiva and his troops reach the hill to find out that a large part of Mandar has been blasted off and many of the inventors killed. There is no sign of Brahaspati, but Shiva finds the insignia of the Nagas, confirming their involvement in the treacherous wars of the Chandravanshis.

Enraged by this, Shiva declares war on the Chandravanshis. With consultation from the Devagiri Chief Minister Kanakhla and the Head of Meluhan Army, Parvateshwar, Shiva advances towards Dharmakhet, the border area of Swadweep, the land of the Chandravanshis. A fierce battle is fought between the Meluhans and the Swadweepans in which the Meluhans prevail. The Chandravanshi king is captured and brought in front of Daksha. He becomes enraged upon seeing the Neelkanth and is taken away. The Chandravanshi princess, Anandmayi, tells them that they too have a similar legend that the Neelkanth will come forward to save their land by launching an assault against the 'evil' Suryavanshis. Hearing this, Shiva is dumbfounded and utterly distressed. With Sati he visits the famous Ram temple of Ayodhya, the capital of Swadweep. There he meets the priest from whom he comes to know about the karma, his fate, and his choices in life, which will guide him. As Shiva comes out of the temple, he hears a scream. Running to the location he watches in horror as a Naga is about to attack Sati.

^^^ didn't get it..is this some side business that Kara Johar does...that of a middleman? He is one of the biggest producers..he doesn't have to pimp😕

Why C grade Hollywood??? Any reason!

Anyway Most fans of Meluha are mock worried about SRK dancing to Shava Shava as Shiva😆

But they are happy it will be an Indian production with an Indian star cast..

Some suggestions on Twitter

Parvateshwar-Sunil Shetty

Brahaspati-Madhavan

Nandi-Govinda

Anandmayi-Kajol

^ K-Jo knows it very well that the Indian cinema-goers are still not ready for a mythical movie; besides, he ain't a risk taker of the industry. IMO, it's unlikely he would let this script roll on Dharma's floor.

How reselling is considered as pimping? He bought the rights of the book; he can sell it to whoever he wants to. This is called business. If he had resold the rights before buying the movie that would have considered as pimping.

& about C-grade H-flick: What was Hisss... Siddhartha... Kamasutra... & others of their ilk?! 🤔

Actors for the New Runelords Movie Have Been Nominated -- Selection is Open to Public Vote -- Nominees Include Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai, Brad Pitt, Zak Efron, Deepika Padukone, Bruce Willis, Russell Crowe, Hayden Christensen and Kellan Lutz as selected by David Farland Enterprises and The Runelords Movie Group.

St. George, UT (PRWEB) December 17, 2011

The Runelords movie is getting ready to do a casting call for actors. The choices for the starring roles have been narrowed down to nine candidates and the decision is being taken to vote in the public forum. Those nominated are Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai, Brad Pitt, Zak Efron, Deepika Padukone, Bruce Willis, Russell Crowe, Hayden Christensen and Kellan Lutz. All fans are invited to vote for their favorites. Voting ends January 31,2012. Results will be tabulated at that time by David Farland Enterprises and The Runlords Movie Group.

The Runelords, a New York Times bestselling fantasy series written by David Farland, ten years in the making, is being prepared to be made into a major motion picture. A number of studios have jockeyed for position, capitol investors are lining up and a great deal of their decisions rest upon who will direct the film and that in part will depend upon who the actors will be.

Actors for the starring roles are being selected as one of the first steps to preparing to make the movie. Nine stars have been nominated for three roles. David Farland Enterprises has elected to allow fans to vote on which stars should be used, by public poll. All are invited to go to https://runelordsmovie.com/community/polls/ and vote for their favorite actors and actresses.

Author David Farland says, "Deciding who to nominate was tough. For wise King Orden we need a middle aged actor who looks like he has a head for strategy and can be a tough guy. He's in for the fight of his life. We finally narrowed it down to Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis or Russell Crowe. The part of Iome, the outrageously beautiful princess, has to have a slightly oriental look. We struggled with some tough choices and came up with Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai, or Deepika Padukone. Finally there was the part of Prince Gaborn, a strong young idealist that falls head-over-heels in love with Princess Iome. He is a warrior, so he has to be lean and he's going to get some magical treatments that are created by brands on his body. So he basically has to look good with his shirt off. There we boiled it down to Zak Efron, Hayden Christensen or Kellan Lutz. Now we want to see what the fans have to say."

To vote for an actor, go to https://runelordsmovie.com/community/polls/.
