The sensation of being in her mother's embrace was as familiar as the air she was breathing or her own heartbeat. She could never forget her mother's scent or the softness of her hand as she patted Geet.
Some things stayed within you regardless of whether the whole world would collapse or if you became someone different.
And Geet could feel a crack in the boundaries she had created for herself to protect from grief that she knew would flood her carefully created world the moment they dropped. It was unacceptable and frightening so Geet steeled herself.
"Geetu." Her mother said with a voice choked with emotion. "Geet." Her name sounded like a prayer and hope on her mother's lips. Yet she could not return the hug.
