Today was day 2 of orchestra, and I have to swallow my earlier words about orchestra not being a good idea. Today it was very good – probably because the old style orchestra format suited the purane zamane ke songs. Basically a very melodious episode.
All the performances were good, considering most of them were difficult. The only blemish was the 2nd round, where UA faltered, but made up for it with a brilliant performance in the 3rd round with Pardesiya. BS were very good today, except for part of the 3rd song where Banjo didn't quite get a line in the mukhda right. Sharib was fabulous throughout.
BS got an unlikely supporter today in the form of Saath Phere actor Sharad Kelkar. Seeing that Saath Phere is the top show on Zee, and is giving sleepless nights to the K serials on Star, Sharad's endorsement of BS was a huge boost. He also commented that the Gurus were biased against BS and didn't support them enough compared to UA. GG's were caught in a tight spot and obviously denied it. Possibly scripted. I think Gajji visits or has scouts who visit IF. This week even the toss concept was abolished.
Madhur Bhandarkar and Sameer Tandon as judges were good, to the point, and polite – something I haven't seen since Sunil Shetty. They were happy with both jodis, except for round 2, where Sameer decided against commenting on their performance, and Madhur said they messed up the lyrics. Madhur seemed impressed with Sharib, and might offer him a chance. In any case, they have a surprise for the jodis, which will be revealed in the finale next Saturday; it's probably an offer for the winners to sing for his next movie Signal. I know it stars young newcomer Kunal Khemu (from Kalyug), so both Aishwarya's and Sharib's voices could suit him.
Leslie and Hariharan tried speaking in a Hyderabadi accent. I, being from Hyderabad, hate when people do that, because they never get it right. It's always exaggerated. Anyway, the point was BS was good in the 2nd round so they joked about wanting to copy their song and make an album out of it. What I didn't like was when Leslie called BS 'phaltu' in the 3rd round, in the guise of humor. No they weren't 'phaltu'. Banjo simply sung a part of the mukhda differently. Calling them 'phaltu' would be insulting them and insulting the intelligence of Madhur and Sameer who actually liked their performance. And Leslie even had the guts to imply that BS would win the contest despite this so called 'phaltu' performance.
BS had the most stars today. But suprisingly, it wasn't announced that they were today's winners, like it was announced for UA the last 3 episodes. Hmmm… fishy. I think Gajji's been using his editing scissors in the wrong places. He even edited the comment where Leslie compares UA to BS, who bounced back despite being scolded last week (I read that in the article). When you can show so much unnecessary drama, why edit out the part where BS is being shown in a good light?
Ujjaini's back to C2005 antics. I don't see the need to cry when the GG's gave them 5 and 5, and HH also gave positive comments, and also explained why he was cutting a star. Was it simply because they got fewer stars than BS after a long time? On the other hand, Banjo had taken it calmly when everyone blamed her last week and BS also thanked the GG's even when they got just 4 and 3. And it's not like Banjo doesn't feel bad. She mentioned in the AV today that she remembers her family when she gets bad comments from GG's. Ujjaini should take a lesson from Banjo on how to handle her emotions. Or maybe it's just sympathy-attracting tactics.
Anyway, looks like it worked. Rohit had the temerity to ask HH for an extra star for UA in the final round – reminded me of Abhijeet all over again. Thankfully Hari is not Leslie, and he stuck to his guns.
As far as individual rankings go, everyone performed decently well, and it's hard to separate them. I think Sharib stood out from the rest – he was flawless – while the rest of them faltered in one song or another, so they're pretty much even-steven. Overall, BS were the better jodi today, and won the first two rounds, while UA took the third.
