Thats possible. Most scripts usually go to all A list actresses. Who works on it finally depends on other factors like rapport with the producer/director/hero, BO pull, dates availability.

i think the only rival of Madhuri was Sri, and that may be since it was all over the media that madhuri was here to take Sri's place (which she eventually did)

Of course it was Sridevi. Sri was the #1 when Madhuri was rising. After Mads tackled Sri to the ground and forced her into early retirement, she sat on the throne happily for years. What Manisha? What Raveena? Kajol or Karisma? They had nothing on Mads. She even outshined Aishwarya Rai in 2002.
