Prologue

Maan looked around in frustration, angry at the negative results his searching had produced. He knew that the phone Vicky had called from came from this region of Punjab only, yet he had no luck finding even one trace of him. Not one person who he had shown his photo to remembered seeing the young man. Even more confusing, someone had recognized the other person in the photo, someone he clearly knew to be in Canada.

It didn't help that neither Dev, Naintara, or Padma were taking his calls. Dev and Naintara, he understood. After their latest outrage, they should feel ashamed to speak with him. But Padma was a different matter. He couldn't believe that she never answered when he called. Even if Dev was her favorite, she never ignored him.

Well, regardless of what was going on, it was clear that he would have to get to the bottom of things on his own. Today was going to be another day of searching, and it was best to just get to it. Pulling out the photo from his pocket, Maan again began his work. First he tried the local shops and eating establishments. No one there could help him, but it was suggested that he should try at the temple, for visitors often came there.

Maan couldn't think of any reason why Vicky would be at a temple, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. After all, the priests may have seen him elsewhere and be able to give him some kind of clue. With renewed determination, Maan drove himself to the temple. Once he was there, he asked several babas and other devotees if they had seen Vicky, carefully showing the photo. None of them ever remembered seeing the young man. At one point someone paused while looking at Dev's picture, making Maan suspicious. Out of the hundreds of people he had stopped, not one recognized Vicky, but on two occasions Dev they seemed to recognize.

Calling to a pandit, Maan directly asked him if he had seen Dev, receiving a negative answer. However, the pandit requested him to speak with the purohit, as he might be more helpful. Maan wanted to see him right away, but the pandit informed that a marriage was currently being performed. He assured Maan that he could meet the purohit after the ceremony.

Maan complied, not wanting to interrupt a private family matter. Yet he couldn't contain his restlessness. He had a feeling that meeting this purohit would finally put him on the right track. He also couldn't get over an uneasiness that continued to plague him. He had doubts about Dev and how he might be involved in Vicky's strange phone call. If Dev had done anything wrong after all he had just done, Maan promised he would never spare him. It was time for his irresponsible little brother to grow up and become a man.

Feeling his impatience reach the breaking point, Maan glanced at his watch. He had already waisted a quarter of an hour standing out in the sun, with no sign of the purohit. Deciding that he could at least search out the man's whereabouts, Maan headed up the stairs and towards the mandap. When he reached the top, he could see that the bride and groom where taking their pheres around the fire. Resigning himself to wait until the ceremonies were over, Maan glanced again at the photo in his hand and turned around. He had no interest in the nuptials taking place, preferring to put his mind towards the best way to quickly finding Vicky.

The wind picked up, causing the temple bells to ring furiously. A sharp gust of wind blew past Maan, pulling the photograph from his grip. Turning quickly, Maan sprung forward, determined to retrieve it. He didn't want to loose the only picture of Vicky that he had with him, otherwise he would have to send back to Delhi for another, wasting valuable time. After grasping the photo more firmly in his hand, Maan started to raise back up, glancing towards the wedding party as he did so. Blinking twice at the sight before him, Maan felt shock and anger begin to course through his body as the groom's face came clearly into focus.

"Ruko!" he shouted, his voice echoing with the fading sound of temple bells.

Precap

Geet saw a man rushing towards them and as he came closer, she recognized him as the one who had rescued her from the lake.

So, I don't generally post a lot in my stories, except for the updates, for one thing because I don't really have the time, but also because I don't like the idea of unnecessary spamming. However, I will occasionally respond to questions, or other interesting post, so you can keep on the lookout for that. It won't be too often, though.

Awesome ... But don't u think its exactly like ur 1st ff...

Is this story exactly like my 1st FF? Well, in being based off the original GHSP and incorporating moments from the original show, then yes it is. However, there is one key difference in my mind. This story is like an alternate reality where Geet and Dev never actually were married. In fact, Maan himself stops the marriage. This automatically introduces a whole new angle, as there is now no fake marriage, no baby, and Maan knows it all, at least as far as Dev is concerned.

Part of the goal of this story is to explore how this change in the storyline would affect the characters themselves, as well as the outcomes of the situations they encounter. I also want a chance to explore some different aspects of the various parts of the original story that I felt were not dealt with well, or at all. I still intend to keep to the characterizations of Maan and Geet as they were originally shown, which I think will be an interesting challenge.

oh wow Laxmi.. you did pick up very well from that scene onwards.. and I am very eager to see how you take it forward , specially since you are going to keep the original sketch of the characters...

Somehow, in Fan Fictions, since it all begins with how those particular characters have been enacted, that we get attached to them and I for one am biased towards stories which keep much of the original plot lines and characters of the show they are inspired from.

Do continue soon.
