Zubeen Sang more than 7000 songs.....know more here

http://guwahatitoday.com/music/zubin/zubin_main.html
It doesnt say clearly if he sang 7000 different songs or one song 7000 times or 10 songs 700 times or 700 songs 10 times each?

It is interesting that he was in the shadows until this one song brought him to the land of fame. Hope he survives this waterfall of fame and doesnt get washed away.

Zubeen has really sung 7000 songs in assamese and other languages of North east in a span of 12 years, he is a house-hold name in assam, if somebody goes to assam, then atleast one of his albums will be found in every house. He has directed music in many of the assamese movies in recent times, has acted in a recent Assamese movie Dinabandhu, which is sure to get the national recognitions. He has a hindi album aasha, released about 6-7 years ago.

Interesting how this guy can be so big in the regional market yet be so unknown nationally!! It will be good to hear some fresh compositions from him rather than listening to the ghisa pita or "inspired" music from the likes of HR and Anu Malik.

aashique ji, you know one thing, most of the indian movies or directors who have brought international awards for India are in regional languages. How many of us know about adoor Gopalkrishan, Jhahnu Barua, shyam Benegal etc. compared to Yash Chopra,Karan Johar etc. When they get national awards their news flashes in news papers only for one day, whereas Hritwik Roshan has given birth to one son gets the headline coverage in TOI. There are thousands of singers in different regions of India, who has given flavours to Indian music, and the true picture of Bollywood music directors were given in "taal", where they just copy or steal the original, remix it with synthetic music and sell it in their name. How many of us knew Dr. Bhupen Hazarika before "Rudali", but the original composition of "Dil Hum Hum kare" were created probably in 1960s used in the movie Maniram Dewan, an assamese movie. The composition "Bite na Bite na Rehna" sung by Asha Bhosle is a typical assamese lorie, that mothers used to keep their children sleeping (assamese composition). Bhupen Hazarika's brother jayanta hazarika was a famous assamese singer with a very melodious voice, whose songs still bring tears in the eyes of every assamese people. They are not known nationally because they never moved to Mumbai. If you want to hear the original assamese folk songs, then listen to Khagen mahanta or Pulak banerjee, should be available somewhere. It is good that people like Zubeen have moved to Mumbai, probably he will be able to use the beautiful fold tunes of the north east through his compositions.

RongMonji,

I was familiar with most names you have listed and very aware of their immesnse contribution to Indian music and films....somehow Zubeen's existence escaped me.

Even the movie "Saheb" starring Anil Kapoor and Amrita singh is a remake of a movie in Assamese ( I dont recall the name, and I liked the Assamese version more than the hindi one).

It is just unfortunate that the rest of India is deprived of such talents. While Hindi movies and music have a far reaching audience than any other form of entertainment, it should be able to expose such hidden talents. If they can go to Pakistan, Middle East to grab some off beat tunes and catchy music, there is enough in different parts of India to tap into as well.....but alas that doesnt happen so frequently.
