End of the World

Anytime you turn the TV on, there is some news about Hurricane, Tornado, or some other destructive natural force. Astronomy inform us that just as our solar system had a beginning, so it must have an end. At one time life was impossible on the earth, so there will come a time when man will no longer be able to exist. Science, cold and calculating, has foretold the physical end of the world -- has prophesied the destruction of the globe and all its contents. Birth, life, death -- it has been well been said --appear to be the rule of the universe at large. Suns and planets evolved, they flourish, and at some point will decay; and new suns and systems will arise to take their places.

Many religions have claims to predict the end of the world. According to Bible ,""The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heal, the earth also, and the works that are therein, shall be burned up." So basically, Bible trace the prophecy that the world would come to an end by being consumed with fire.

Do you believe the world will come to an end at all? Or you are a true follower of your faith and believe that End of the World will come as it is written in Holy books?

I took Philosphy of Aztec and Maya Religions. It's very
interesting how they define end of the world. The
Aztecs had an extremely complex calendar system based on the stars. They used this calendar not only to create holy days and times, but also to determine the course of human life on earth. The Aztecs believed in the Legend of the Five Suns, the times of which coincide with periods in their history. Each sun is a period of time wherein there is peace and life. Once a sun dies, however, the world is absorbed in chaos as the gods destroy the world and renew it. There are only five suns, and we are presently on the fifth. The first sun was the Sun of Precious Stones, destroyed by Tezcatlipoca(god of night and all material things). The second sun was the Sun of Darkness, where life was destroyed by a large hurricane sent by Quetzalcoatl(He is the creator sky-god and wise legislator). The third sun was the Sun of Fire. Life was destroyed by a rain of fire created by Tezcatlipoca. The fourth sun was the Sun of Water, destroyed by a large flood of Tlaloc(God of Rain). The final sun that now exists is the Sun of Movement, Tonatiuh the Rising Eagle, destined to end in 52 years by a large earthquake that will tear the earth apart.

Being a muslim itz my belief that one day the world will come to end..........And even scientists r saying the same thing........I have watched many documentories regarding thiz matter........... 😊 Itz true.......... But to believe or not..........thats wht u feel like doing 😊

Well..if we all do our part (Stop all form of pollution)and follow live and let live we may extend life on earth.
But everything does come to an end. and life begin again so why worry 😛

The world WILL come to an end - it has for so many species. Human beings are just another species (Which actually did bring world to an end for so many others.) Hopefully not in out or our children's life-time. Remember, the human species has existed for less than a tenth of percent of the time of earth's existance.
Eventually the sun WILL cool down. Many stars have burnt out...so will the sun - in a few million years.
But our most immidiate concerns are the melting of polar glaciers and tropical deforestation and green house gases.(environmentally speaking)...Then there are AIDS, Birdflu, Global diabetic epidemics... and even more important than that...there are insane people who are out to kill everyone who does not have the same imaginary friend as they do. They are the number one threat to humanity...its like those villains in disaster movies trying to settle their score with the hero and willing to sacrifice everyone else while everyone is trying to get out of a burning building or a sinking ship or a flooded mine.

Yes, there are layers upon layers of possibilities how the world as we know it can come to an end.

Sometimes I feel that I should be doing more about it but can not figure out how...the best way to save world from destruction is to stop contributing to it I guess.

For most of us the dilemma of Duryodhan still exists: I know what is good, I cannot get myself to do it; I know what is evil, I cannot refrain from it!
