CHAPTER 8
What I had anticipated to be the worst days of my life, actually turned out to be best days of my life.
6.50 am:
"Welcome to Thai Airways. We hope you have a great flight." I was greeted when I entered the plane. I just hope that he doesn't end up in the same flight, I wanted to say, I have had enough for a day. I smiled at them and mouthed a thank you.
"Your seat is here, Madam." Another air hostess lead the way and I simply followed.
"Let me help you with a luggage." Wordlessly, I handed over my suitcase, and she lifted, placing it in the cabinet smoothly.
"Thank you." I told her politely.
"Not a problem, Madam. Well, I hope you enjoy your flight." Saying so, she disappeared in the huge crowd of passengers behind me. Sighing, I settled back to my seat and looked outside the window.
It was a cold, foggy morning, I realized. But that did not affect me, since Dadi had made sure I carry a jacket with me. What will I do without Dadi? I asked myself again.
"Oh, my god! Are you stalking me, Dr. Gupta?" I heard him joke beside me. Of course, he has landed in the same plane as me. OF COURSE!
I opened my eyes to peek and make sure it was not him, again, only to find him smirking at me.
"Oh, no! NO, NO NO!" I just shut my eyes, hoping that he disappears. When I opened my eyes again, he was still standing there, really intrigued by my actions.
"What are you doing?" He asked me, still grinning.
"Attempting to make you disappear." I said, trying to close and rub my eyes again. Well, of course, it didn't work.
"You know, my seat, unfortunately, is right near you. So you can continue with whatever, that is you're trying to do. I have-", he looked at his watch, "3 hours now. Yes." He nodded skeptically.
Agitated, I got up to let him in. I rolled my eyes, when I caught him whispered, "best.flight.ever". Worst flight and day ever! I wanted to say. But with Armaan Malik, it was better to shut up.
"Wow, don't look at me as if you're gonna eat me any second. That might give me nightmares!"
"Listen, you!" And I snapped. I bend over, pointing my finger at him and looking at him eye-to-eye, when I heard the captains announcement.
"Ladies and gentleman, this is your captain calling. Kindly put on your seat belts and switch off all electronic devices for your safety." And the safety instruction announcement went on for a while, which I would rather listen to than listen to Armaan Malik rumble.
"We wish you have a happy and safe flight, Ladies and Gentleman." And alas, the announcement was over.
"You know" He said, making me sigh, "the air hostesses in this flight are quiet hot, don't you think?" He looked at me enthusiastically.
When he looked at my glaring eyeballs and flaring nostrils, his smile disappeared immediately. Scared momentarily, he gestured me a peace sign and went back to being silent. I thanked the almighty for this magic.
7.20 am:
"Madam, your breakfast is here." The air hostess smiled at me.
"Sir." Done giving me breakfast, which was easy and quick, she looked at Armaan and blushed slightly.
"Yes, beautiful?" He, who was busy listening to music, now looked at her with his usual charming gaze. She blushed even more.
"Would you like your breakfast now?" She asked, trying to maintain a steady voice. I knew, that she could start squealing and jumping any moment, since it was him she was talking to you.
"Absolutely." Says Armaan, his blue eyes having a different magic in them this time. How did he do that? I wondered. Looking into his eyes gave me butterflies, forget the air hostess who looked as if she would faint any moment now.
7.30 am:
"Would you like anything else, Madam?" The air hostess now faced me.
"Uh, a black coffee to go please." I told her.
"And for you, Armaan?" She blushed. In this 10 minute conversation, he had with the lady, he had made sure that she calls him by his name and not by formality. Any girl will think that he is charming, but I thought that he was being a jerk with capital 'J'.
"A diet coke, beautiful?" He told her softly. I rolled my eyes. Why doesn't he go and start making out with her already? I mean, why am I, I, out of everyone, to get stuck with him? WHY, GOD, WHY?!
"Sure." She left and returned immediately.
"Here's your black coffee, Madam. Sugar?" She asked me.
"Brown." I told her, and she obeyed.
"Thank you." I smiled at her.
"No problem." Saying so, she looked at Armaan, who by then looked at he will start making out with her any moment.
"Your coke." She handed over the coke, he took; a touch that lasted a little to long.
I coughed and cleared my throat on purpose, to make them sure that I hadn't disappeared, yet. The lady looked at, realizing my intentions, and blushed.
"Jealous, much?" He mocked, as soon as the lady was out of ear shot.
"YOU!" I took the butter knife and pointed it at him.
"I will kill you, if you don't shut up now." I told him, still holding my knife. He simply smirked at that.
"You won't." I was taken aback by the amount of certainty in his voice. Who is he?
"Ugh! I hate this flight." I cursed my faith for the umpteenth time.
"I know, isn't it great?" He whispered.
I stirred my coffee and pickup the packet of sugar, still looking at him.
"Absolutely. I can jump out of this plane any moment now." Done putting some sugar in my coffee, I stirred it frantically.
"Uh, Dr. Riddhima?" Armaan was now looking at my coffee, making a disgusted face.
"WHAT? What, tell me!" Of course I was bound by restrictions, hence couldn't yell. But for him, I think my whisper was good enough.
"Uh, nothing." He looked away. I thanked the almighty again, but I was sure he was watching me. Coffee! Get some coffee, my brain told me and I followed. I spat out the coffee the moment it touched my taste bud. I heard Armaan laugh near me. I looked at my packet of sugar which read: salt.
I realized suddenly that I was, too, laughing along. Both us shared a laugh for a long time. The moment we stopped laughing, he would look at me and start laughing again, and so would I. Maybe, the flight wasn't going to be as bad as I had thought it would be, would it?
