Fantasy , people have no problem with that . The problem arises when both the castes r pitted against each other on fundamentalist issues and she forces HER side to take a backseat when its not their fault and they r simply being what they r . For instance , people got bugged that they were told to go home when they simply came to wish Happy Diwali . Very rudely too . No one gave them mithai , no one wished them .They were simply told to leave as they r from ANOTHER caste and Mona supported it . Could not they have shown that Mona continues with the lies but insists that although they r Punjabis they should be respected ?

To this date , whenever I have visited ANY Gujrathi friends house for Diwali , I have not left it before eating the Mithai offered to me with warmth ...and hug of Happy Diwali . And Mind u , I eat onions .😆

Mona could have comtinued with the charade by winking at her parents but put her foot down respecting her culture too was the simple expectation .

As u said ...Go to Ur Rabba was a rather harsh remark .Turning up nose at Vimny for carrying an onion in HER house when it was Ketki who barged in her property was again too much . Naturally people get miffed .

I agree with your entire post - you always make everyone agree anyway. 😆
However - like I said in my previous post, AMbaaji is the elder one - she should've taken care of it. No matter what play they were doing in front of her sister, she shouldn't forget that these are her daughter's in-laws. In any Hindu tradition, we always tend to give more respect to the girls in-laws and she NEVER forgets these things, then why now? Instead she just stood there trying to cover up. So fine, you don't want to acknowledge your children's in-laws but in my opinion, she should have walked over to them and in a soft tone asked them to leave now and she will explain later, perhaps throw in a couple of apologies. THAT would have been much better. Instead of Mona pushing them out and making it look like she has no care for her parents.
I'm not saying what they did was right or wrong - the way it was done was wrong because as an elder Ambaaji should've taken care of the situation.

Ambaji is very self serving, she has a double standard one for her children and other for Daughter in law. She reserves her special anger for Mona. Her anger takes a back seat when Hetal is concerned.

It is Mona's fault that she is denying her culture and respect for her family in order to please Ambaji. When the sides are turned Ambaji will do no such sacrifice for Mona.

Ambaji is ashamed of her Punjabi daughter in law and son in law, she has no hesitation in telling Ketki that they are Gujrati..she humiliated both Karan and Mona by hiding their Punjabi culture..if shoe was on other foot, Ambaji would have fit the fan..Ambaji is playing along with her prejudiced sister and all she cares is about her sister without giving any thought for Mona and Karan's feeling.

Karan should leave right away for his parents home, but he would do no such thing, no humiliation is big enough for him to take offence but at the same time he challenged Parmeet..
Mona would take any humiliation to be a good daughter in law..if Ambaji ever returns the favor we all cheer and say she is great. Like her Ambaji's children are as self serving and selfish.

Which is why I find people a little harsh towards Mona. I blame Ambaaji in this - this is her house, she should've stood up for her children. Mona is meek, we have seen her be quiet while she's being tortured by all, we have questioned why she never stands up for anything, yet everyone is blaming her for this. Has she ever been able to go against Ambaaji? No. Has she ever questioned whatever decisions Ambaaji makes? No. Sure, she's the one who said I'll become Gujarati - but I don't remember her saying or remotely denouncing her punjabi heritage? Maybe I missed a scene. You can never take away anyone's hertiage/tradition/culture from them. No matter how hard Mona is trying to be Gujarati, you can still see she's uncomfortable doing it - she doesn't come accross flawless.

We cannot give the simple reason of mona being innocent in everything. When your parents are being told off and insulted left and right and you are standing there doing nothing but smiling and then making fun of them and actually kicking them out and saying they are not your parents. I dont know what kind of innocence that is. And ofcourse she is not flawless because she is not gujariti but that does not mean she has any regrets for behaving with her family like that. I dont are about her trying to act gujarati that is fine and funny. But the way her parents were treated in front of her and she did nothing was wrong. I mean they were sent back and insulted when all the did was bring gifts and sweets and were being nice. Ambaji and everyone else there were wrong but mostly mona because it is her parents.

Thanks tochukumari

I felt horrible watching Mona denying her heritage to appease Ambaji and her sister. If it was meant to be humorous, it was in very poor taste and I was very uncomfortable watching the show. I felt very bad when Ambaji worried about, what will her sister say when she finds out that her children are married into Punjabi family and she asked Mona to ask her parents not to visit her and then Mona went to her maiyka to tell them not to visit her house. Ambajis showed no respect for Mona and her family, she asked them not to visit her house on Diwali. Ambaji thinks Mona's family should jump when she tells them, they are there to appease her daughter, her sister and her family

Ambaji takes Mona for granted, she has no respect for Mona or her parents. Her own daughter has refused to live in her sausual and Ambaji thinks she can dictate and order Mona around and tell her hide her culture because her sister doesn't like Punjabi's. The sister's own child married out of caste, he or she was not afraid of the mother (Ketki)...the whole thing is pretty disgusting.
