S3E06: Smells Like Teen Spirit
who didn't love this episode? The only thing missing that would've made it better was Klaus' snarkiness. Really. I missed Klaus. Other than that? Fantastic storytelling.

Overview
UNCLE MASON! HOT UNCLE MASON IS BACK! Okay, so I shall stop flailing for a little while. I seriously thought it was Michael. Then Mason appears. *giggle
There's A Thin Line Between Strong And Pathetic. Apparently.
It takes three seasons for Elena to realize that since she's a vampire/trouble magnet she should learn how to defend herself. Frankly, I'm just glad she's finally taking the initiative, even if it is against Stefan. It's about time ' Bonnie and Caroline can because of their supernatural status, and Jeremy learnt how to use Ric's weapons, Matt knows how to shoot a gun ' only Elena was left.
But I love that the only reason she's learning this is because she has hope that Stefan is in this ripper!Stefan somewhere. Her Stefan is there, fighting to overcome this compulsion and come out and protect her. At the same time, the ripper that he is will fall in love, again, with Elena, this fierce and feisty girl who will give him hell. I cannot wait to see that.
A little annoyed to see that Damon needed convincing to save Stefan, I will admit. I mean, the rest of his scenes were awesome, but there, where he was telling Elena to give up on Stefan? I wanted to smack him for a bit. His brother's in this position because of him.
But then again, I guess he isn't sure he can get his brother back, so he's making it easier for himself by just giving up. He doesn't want to go through hell to get Stefan back, and then find out that Stefan will never be able to be back. That would suck for him more than not getting Elena I think. Ultimately, it will be the brothers' bond that will save Stefan. If it's not, I will not be happy with the show.
Damon missing Alaric? Priceless. He needs to apologise to Ric, because he's taken their friendship for granted, and now he's realizing that. (Also, does anyone else think that Damon's definitely going 'oh shit, now I'm the good brother? This is what Stefan had to put up with all the time? I'm going to kill someone.' in his head?]
Alliances Of The Unholy Kind
So this witch on the other side? Yeah, I don't like her already. If she's a Bennett, Bonnie's probably going to freak. Vicki being able to do anything to come back to some extent is pretty understandable though. Even in the beginning, she was this clingy sort of person. Matt means everything to her, being alive means everything to her ' she's never been a very stable person and being dead wouldn't have changed that. Still, how could she do that to Matt?
This was Zach's episode in many ways. He's just ' wow, he makes my heart break with this look in his eyes. It's so easy to believe this is the guy who is willing to sacrifice having his sister back in some capacity to keep his friends alive. He's willing to sacrifice having his family back so that Elena is safe, and ultimately the rest of his friends. Favourite character alert.
I feel really bad for Bonnie though. She's helping Matt with his ghostly problems because her boyfriend won't let her help with his. (She brought up the same point I made two/three Musings ago about Jeremy's relationships and lack of closure with Vicki and Anna! I love being right about things.) She's ignoring the fact that Jeremy's so completely not over Anna by throwing herself into helping Matt solve his problem. Though apparently that spell did not go the way she had planned.
Jeremy and Anna can now feel each other. The Jeremy/Anna shipper in me is doing this wicked crazy dance in my head. The Jeremy/Bonnie shipper in me is sobbing because it means there's going to be trouble in not-so-paradise.
Mason is now back. Again, the Mason/Damon shipper is doing this dance, and the possibilities of a Mason/Damon/Alaric bromance has me thrilled. The ghosts are going to make for entertaining scenes.
Sire, Servant?
Poor Caroline, her boyfriend is now Klaus' biggest fan. Obnoxious Tyler is back ' and he used to be awesome in season one because then it made for great Tyler/Jeremy scenes, but now it just makes Caroline sad and I don't like that.
Tyler's enthusiasm does mean that apparently Matt/Tyler are back to being best buds. Gimme non-angsty Matt/Caroline/Tyler scenes to go with that (and a friendship between the three) and I will be very happy. I can even deal with Matt/Caroline being broken up (they were my OTP ok. I'm allowed to be upset.) if you give me a proper friendship between the two.
If they write a triangle between Tyler/Rebekah/Caroline, I won't be able to take it. This show has too many messy relationships now. Jeremy/Bonnie/Anna have a really weird triangle (ghost!sex will be weird, but I have a feeling it's going that way. The Jeremy/Bonnie and Jeremy/Anna shippers in my head are fighting.) and is Matt being written into that? And then we've now got Rebekah/Tyler/Caroline and Matt is still part of that. And of course, Stefan/Elena/Damon[/Katherine](/and maybe still Rebekah and even Klaus? I don't even know anymore with them. The relationships are all too convoluted. Interesting, and fun to watch, but so confusing sometimes! Ric needs a girl. Bring ghost!Jenna!!!)
Famous Last Words
Yeah, ok, relationships in this show have begun to confuse me. More than anything, I now want the non-romantic relationships sorted out. Stefan/Damon need to fix the brothers thing. Damon needs to save his brother, not for Elena, but for Stefan, and for himself. (Give me my scene between Damon and Klaus from the books!) Damon also needs to apologise to Ric. Tyler and Matt need to talk their friendship through, just go back to being best buds. And then get Jeremy to join their trifecta of awesome.
And the short scene we had today between Elena, Bonnie and Caroline? I need more of those. This friendship was such a great part of season one, the bond between the three girls and everything they would do for one another. It wasn't a big focus in season two ' we had Bonnie/Elena scenes and Caroline/Elena scenes and Bonnie/Caroline scenes but not so many with the three of them together and I want them back.
But most important is Stefan/Damon. The Salvatore brothers need to save each other, and themselves, and heal themselves before either can even consider being with Elena properly.
