Jambavati rushes to Satyabhama and tells her that Krishna is down w/ a stomach ache. They both rush to his chamber, and see that he's lying in bed, writhing in pain. They are surprised that he can be in physical pain, and ask him what they can do. Krishna tells them that he has the cure for it, but doesn't know that anybody would agree to give it. The 2 ranis tell him that they'd give their lives if needed, but Krishna tells them that he needs the dust from the feet of a true bhakt. JS are shocked.
Krishna tells his wives that they are true bhakts of his, and begs them to oblige. Jambavati flatly refuses, and even Satyabhama tells him that if they do that, they won't even get a place in hell. So they send for Akrura and explain the situation to him, and ask him to donate dust from his feet, but he refuses. Satyabhama then tells him to announce this in the city and appeal for any donations of feet dust. In the meantime, Garuda is flying around the city randomly (Why didn't they request the 16,000 other wives? Have they also gone off w/ Rukmini?)
Akrura goes and announces to the people that Krishna is unwell, and that the vaids had been unable to cure him. They ask him if there's anything they can help w/, and he asks whether anyone can donate their feet dust? Everybody refuses, saying that Krishna ain't just their ruler, but also their god, and they can't do something that'll send them straight to hell. Akrura returns to the palace disappointed. (Wonder where Amod & his mom disappeared - they should have been here to volunteer 😆 Also, how come they didn't ask Balarama & Revathy - those 2 wouldn't be afflicted w/ sin. Anyway... 😆)
Narada appears again, and tells them that he came on hearing about Krishna's condition. Jambavati tells him that Krishna told them about the cure, and Akrura requests him to donate his feet dust, and Narada too refuses (this scene was too good - the patron saint of pnpc refusing to do what he helped set JS refuse to do) Akrura then asked who might be able to oblige, and Narada suggests the Gopis of Vrindavan. They just may agree to do what everyone else refused to. Satyabhama sends Akrura to Vrindavan.
In Vrindavan, the Gopis are bathing when they see a chariot approach, and recognize it as Dwarka's flag. They run to it, and Akrura stops and greets them. They ask him how is Kanha, and Akrura asks them to refer to him respectfully. They tell him that to him, Shri Krishna may be Dwarkadheesh, but to them, he'd always be Kanha. They ask him how he is.
Akrura tells them that Krishna is under tremendous stomach pain, and the gopis are distressed to hear that. He tells them about the cure being the dust from any true bhakt's feet, and how nobody wanted to give it due to the sins that would latch on to them. The gopis deplore them, saying that when Krishna is in pain, it's very self-centered to think about paap & punya. W/o hesitation, one by one, they take off their slippers, step on the soil, gather it and put it in a cloth. After they all have done it, they wrap it and give it to Akrura. Akrura tells them that Krishna only wanted a little, but the gopis tell him that if Krishna again has the same pain, he shouldn't have to wait until the cure is available.
Akrura gets back to Dwarka and gives Satyabhama the bundle. Satyabhama takes a pinch of the soil and puts it in Krishna's mouth, and Krishna instantly gets cured 😆 He then asks Akrura about whether the gopis had balked, and why did they send so much, and Akrura recounted everything that the gopis had told him.
JS realize their mistake, and both apologize to him for being envious of the gopis, and appreciate that he was reciprocating their unrivalled devotion. They tell him that they understood that they should have put his pain above their own salvation. Krishna tells them that his lesson wasn't merely that, but that if one is going to be devoted, one ought to be fully devoted, w/o having any ulterior motives. It's one thing for all devotees to ask something of their deity, but another to be prepared to give their deity anything they want.
My comments: Excellent episode, and perfect way to round up the week. I do wish that the Gopis were brought to Krishna so that they could have gotten his darshan, but otherwise, it was okay.
